Earlier this year, Denis Villeneuve released the masterpiece Dune: Part Two and blew us all away with his stunning vision of the desert planet Arrakis, the sandworms that live there, and the rise of unwilling space messiah Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet). But that's not the only Dune thing that'll be coming to our screens this year. Believe it or not, we're but a few short months away from the release of Dune: Prophecy, a brand new spinoff series coming to Max.
Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the Dune story covered in Denis Villeneuve's movies, which adapt the seminal 1965 novel by Frank Herbert. This new series is all about the founding of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood of space witches, who manipulate the levers of power in the galaxy from the shadows. By Paul's time, they're one of the most powerful factions around. But in Dune: Prophecy, they're just beginning to find their footing.

The original feature-length adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune is leaving Netflix at the end of the month. However, Dune fans need not worry as the 1984 sci-fi movie will be available to stream on a different service the following day.
Beginning Oct. 1, Dune will be available to stream on Max. Written and directed by David Lynch, the 1984 epic space opera film chronicles the conflict between rival noble families as they battle for control of the extremely harsh desert planet Arrakis, the only place where spice can be found. The movie follows Paul Atreides, played by Kyle MacLachlan, and his family, House Atreides, as they are appointed to control Arrakis, bringing them into conflict with its former overlords, House Harkonnen. Although a box office bomb at the time of release, Dune has since become a cult classic.

With his literary work, author Frank Herbert created a captivating world full of potential in the much beloved Dune novel series. With the work done in Denis Villeneuves films, the sometimes complex fantasy plane of the books was brought to life in live-action. The third installment in the filmmaker's trilogy based on Herbert's work might take a while to materialize. In the meantime, audiences can preoccupy their minds with Max's upcoming series, Dune: Prophecy. The upcoming series will serve as an origin story of sorts for much of the strife and drama we bear witness to in the Villeneuve films - including the rise of the Harkonnen family.

Denis Villeneuve is including a deleted scene from the original Dune in Dune 2, addressing audiences' concerns about an underused character. Dune 2 will chronicle the second half of Frank Herbert's novel and has pressure to address narrative threads and character arcs while setting up the trilogy's finale. Gurney Halleck, a character underdeveloped in the first movie, will have a larger role in Dune 2, showcasing his love for Fremen culture and his fighting skills against the Harkonnen forces.
Denis Villeneuve has revealed that a deleted scene from the original Dune is going to be included in Dune 2, which solves many of the issues that audiences took with the director’s approach to one character in particular. The first movie was a huge success, making $402 million at the box office and securing itself a Best Picture nomination. However, one character was seemingly underused in comparison to Frank Herbert’s science-fiction novel.
