Remember that time, almost exactly two years ago, when pandemic lockdowns had just begun, and the scents of bleach spray and sourdough filled the air as we all united in our obsession with a mulleted, eyelinered man who bred tigers and his nemesis, an animal activist who wore animal prints and flower crowns? Well, it has been a long two years, so maybe it’s as good a time as any for a little early pandemic nostalgia, courtesy of Peacock’s eight-episode miniseries “Joe vs. Carole,” which revisits the story of the 2020 Netflix documentary “Tiger King,” this time in scripted form.
The question, of course, is whether this story warrants multiple retellings, especially in such a short period. Is the feud between animal-collecting showman Joe Exotic and big-cat rescue activist Carole Baskin really the “Macbeth” of our time? Or even the O.J. Simpson murder trial of our time?

Two long years after Netflix first dropped its “Tiger King” docuseries, the first scripted stab at retelling the wild story of warring big cat enthusiasts Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin has landed, as was inevitable. “Joe vs. Carole,” premiering March 3 on Peacock, stars John Cameron Mitchell and Kate McKinnon as Joe and Carole as they vow to take the other down. At this point — months after a Netflix follow-up to “Tiger King,” podcasts such as the one this series is based on (Wondery’s “Over My Dead Body”), and countless memes and late-night jokes later — anything purporting to shed more light on this particular saga has a high bar to clear in order to be anything less than repetitive. In this respect, “Joe vs. Carole,” despite some decent performances and effective directing from Justin Tipping, rarely justifies its existence.

Big cats and an even bigger love life. Tiger King breakout star Joe Schreibvogel Maldonado-Passage, aka Joe Exotic, detailed his wild past romances with ex Brian Rhyne, former husband Travis Maldonado, and lovers Jc Hartpence and John Finlay during the first season of the megahit Netflix docuseries, as well as at the time current marriage to Dillon Passage (the two later separated in spring 2021). Now that Tiger King 2 has launched, fans are getting more of a view into Exotic’s past — including his romance with ex-fiancée Kimberly Craft, whom he first met Kimberly at age 19 when he was serving as the youngest chief of police in Texas. “He had a magnet that said ‘police’ that he put on the side of his squad car,” Craft explains in the first episode of Season 2. “He was very good looking and he ended up asking me out on a date, so we started dating.

Nicolas Cage will not be playing Joe Exotic.
The beloved actor was set to lead an Amazon drama series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.”
But it sounds like the Tiger King craze is coming to a close with a thud.
“I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together,” Cage said to Variety of the decision.
“They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”
Indeed, the world has changed substantially since Netflix's wildly successful docu-series hit the air in 2020.
As a result, it feels like a distant memory, and it seems Amazon was concerned about investing time and money into a project...

Peacock’s “Joe Exotic” series had to get a bit exotic in its casting process to fit the real-life troupe of characters chronicled in Netflix’s “Tiger King” docuseries. Fortunately, with “Saturday Night Live” standout Kate McKinnon on board from Day 1 as Carole Baskin, the scripted streaming series was off to a very good start.
Then they landed Dennis Quaid, and, well, just ask your mom what she thinks about that choice to play Rick Kirkham. Better yet, ask Rick Kirkham, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel’s reality TV show producer, what he thinks. However, Quaid had to step away from the role due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced with William Fichtner.

Long before Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin became household names, before Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness turned into one of the most successful documentary series of all time, directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin embarked on something they little suspected would become a cultural mega-hit.
“We sort of thought it was our own little story that maybe a few people would be interested in, and we were certainly fascinated by it,” Chaiklin recalls. “But we never in a million years expected it to be received the way that it was.”
Tiger King is part true-crime story, part bizarre slice of Americana involving eccentric people who raise big cats in private sanctuaries. The tale was strange enough to begin with but only got more so as filming progressed, culminating in the arrest and conviction of Joe Exotic for allegedly hiring a hit man to bump off Baskin, Joe’s sworn...

John Finlay has landed his first post-“Tiger King” role.
The former zoo employee and Netflix star lends his voice to a commercial for an emergency preparedness brand called Judy. The company has a limited edition “Tiger Safe” emergency kit that cashes in on the “Tiger King” phenomenon — without mentioning its name — with a tiger-striped paint job.
The kit comes packed with First Aid supplies, food and water reserves, safety tools and more emergency resources. The special items sells for $250, and in light of the coronavirus pandemic, all of the proceeds go to America’s Food Fund, an organization launched by Leonardo DiCaprio and Laurene Powell Jobs that supports food security.
“Tigers aren’t the only thing that need our attention. More than ever, it’s important to be prepared for emergencies, and to give back to people in need,” said Finlay in a release. “This is a campaign I...

Carole Baskin, one of the zookeepers who skyrocketed to fame from Netflix’s “Tiger King,” hasn’t done many interviews because she was unhappy with how the docuseries presented her. However, she was recently tricked into giving an interview over Zoom by YouTubers posing as “Tonight Show” producers.
Josh Pieters and Archie Manners, who have more than 1.3 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, reached out to Baskin, pretending to be producers booking interviews for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Due to the coronavirus crisis, almost every late-night host has turned to virtual broadcasts to keep their shows going. Making the most of the unusual circumstances, Pieters and Manners managed to talk Baskin into giving her first interview post-“Tiger King” over Zoom.

Netflix's Tiger King docuseries has received the Honest Trailer treatment. It's hard to believe, but it's been over a month since the streaming service gifted the world with the addictive docuseries. As the latest trailer points out, "timing is everything." Had the world been asked to stay indoors a month earlier, people would still be talking about Gwyneth Paltrow's The Goop Lab series, which is nothing compared to the lives of Joe Exotic and his weird mix of friends and enemies.
Tiger King fatigue has already sunk in as the world looks for the next big thing to binge and talk about during Zoom hangouts. It appears that Joe Exotic and his 15 minutes of fame are up, until some Carole Baskin legal news comes through. With that being said, the Honest Trailer is a welcome refresher of how insane the story really is. After watching everything so fast,...

Netflix's Tiger King is the target of a new set of Garbage Pail Kids trading cards. The docuseries continues to dominate the headlines, even as the fatigue starts to set in. Whatever the case may be, Topps is ready to cash in on the movement and will have the Joe Exotic-inspired set of cards on sale for the next five days. Then they will not be available any longer. So if you want them, now is the time to pounce on the deal.
Topps' new "Gone Exotic" set of Tiger King Garbage Pail Kids cards contains two of each character chosen from the series. Joe Exotic is now both Joe Chaotic and Schmo Exotic, while Carole Baskin gets Batty Baskin and Cool Cat Carole. The popular Netflix docu-series “Tiger King” will be the subject of a new comic book coming in June, according to TidalWave Productions.
TidalWave announced on Tuesday it will add the Netflix phenomenon to the “Infamous” series of pop culture comic books. It will be written by Michael Frizell and illustrated by Joe Paradise.
“You can’t make this stuff up. I never imagined I’d be researching a book like this,” said writer Michael Frizell. “It was a challenge to find a focus for the comic because there’s so much happening.”
“I just remember starting to watch the show saying to myself, ‘Yeah that tracks.’ We all have Joes and Caroles in our lives, and it’s always interesting to me to learn how these extreme characters got to be where they wound up.”

Like a stealthy tiger padding through the jungle, no one saw Netflix’s “Tiger King” coming. Once word started to spread to homebound viewers hungry for an engrossing quarantine watch, it was too late to un-see the questionable conditions the animals were kept in, and the questionable taste in tattoos of nearly everyone involved. Nielsen said that more than 34 million people watched the series in the first 10 days — more than Season 2 of “Stranger Things,” and almost as many viewers as “Stranger Things” Season 3.
It was the most tweeted-about show in the country the week after it came out, with celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Kim Kardashian and Jared Leto weighing in. A wave of memes followed, then the announcement of an aftershow hosted by Joel McHale and TMZ’s “Tiger King: What Really Went Down?” on Fox.

Everyone is talking about Netflix's hit documentary series, Tiger King. With the bizarre story leading to all sorts of discussions, theories, and satirical takes, with the latest meme on social media combining classic movies, Tiger King, and smooshing them together to make something delightfully absurd.
Currently trending under the title #TigerKingAMovie, thousands of fans are now participating in the hashtag, creating a series of Joe Exotic movie mashups that provide a much-needed laugh, with the more creative ones creating ideas that we hope one day will come to fruition...though probably not. Firstly, we have a slightly different, no doubt more chaotic take on John McTiernan's 1990 submarine spy-thriller given to the Netflix.

A lot of fans have taken aim at Carole Baskin, the animal rights activist, and owner of the non-profit animal sanctuary Big Cat Rescue, who, throughout the series, is accused...

Netflix's global phenomenon Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness made a roaring return for a special episode on Easter Sunday, and it was filled with the outlandish twists that defined the initial seven episodes.
The cast had no idea the series would blow up in the way that it did, but not everyone returned for the special, which was hosted by Joel McHale and titled "The Tiger King and I."
In case you've been living under a rock, we'll offer up some context here:
Joe Exotic (real name Maldonado-Passage), is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted on 17 charges of animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire after an alleged plot murder-for-hire plot to kill Carole Baskin went sideways.
The special brought Eric Cowie, Jeff and Lauren Lowe, John Reinke, Kelci “Saff” Saffery, Josh Dial, John Finlay, and Joe Exotic TV producer Rick Kirkman to...

For all you cool cats and kittens who need more “Tiger King,” Netflix delivered a bonus episode of interviews on Sunday morning.

Joe Exotic is terrified of big cats
The show saved the best interview for last as TV producer Rick Kirkham dropped a few bombshells, including that his wannabe TV star was scared of his own animals. The world’s latest obsession is Netflix documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, the story of private zoo owner Joe Exotic and his long running feud with Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin which ends in a murder-for-hire plot and a 22 year prison sentence for Joe.
It’s genuinely one of the strangest, most fascinating stories to land on the streaming service – if you haven’t caught it yet, you really must.
At the end of the doc Joe was in prison, Jeff Lowe owned the zoo and was planning to transport the animals to a new location in Oklahoma and Carole was happily running Big Cat Rescue and campaigning to prevent cub petting, no longer at immediate risk of being assassinated.

Daisy Ridley has been swept up in the massively popular Tiger King. Netflix's docuseries has been getting rave reviews from viewers, while also kicking up a ton of controversy at the same time. The Rise of Skywalker actress recently got to see all seven episodes and she seems to be feeling a bit bad for Carole Baskin and her current husband, Howard. This is quite the opposite from the way a lot of people feel about the matter.
In a recent interview, Daisy Ridley talked about a variety of different subjects, which included Netflix's Tiger King. The main character in the docuseries, Joe Exotic, gets the lion's share of the press, but Carole Baskin is right up there. Many people are under the assumption that she killed her ex-husband and fed him to her tigers, which has not been proven officially. Ridley had this to say about the show and Baskin.

Toy Story legend Woody becomes Joe Exotic in some truly frightening Tiger King fan art. The Netflix docuseries is still being talked about, over three weeks since it debuted. Luckily, the streaming service has just announced that a new episode, The Tiger King and I, which is a special after show companion piece, will air this Sunday. Joel McHale is set to host.
