Starring Emelia Hansson, Rikard Björk, Rafael Pettersson and Sandra Redlaff. This film is made by friends of Fs, Swedish filmmakers Andreas Climent & André Hedetoft, who made two shorts we've written about before: Logan and Double Trouble. Origin is their feature debut and their film will be available on iTunes as of next week. Take a look. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Andreas Climent & André Hedetoft's Origin, direct from Vimeo: Ambitious science student Julia and programmer Rebecca are trying to make cells age slower.

The Bridge: an unforgettable Scandinavian drama

As UK remake The Tunnel returns, we celebrate Swedish/Danish crime drama The Bridge...

9pm, Saturday night, BBC Four. For the few of us who still, on occasion, watch television when it’s actually broadcast, that timeslot means only one thing: high-quality drama from outside the anglophone world. Okay, so some of the series are less impressive than others, and one or two are in English (remember Australia’s The Code?) but these are exceptions to the rule. What began as a fad, accompanied by much reductive talk of ‘Scandi noir’ and a mildly disturbing national obsession with Sarah Lund’s knitwear, has culminated in a golden age for telly addicts. Our initial resistance to subtitles has faded, and a whole world of often beautifully acted, compellingly plotted drama has opened up. We haven’t strayed very far outside Europe yet, but it’s a start.

Origin: Swedish Sci-Fi Thriller Gets A Rather Great First Trailer
Even without knowing what the movie's about, the first trailer for Origin (Bieffekterna) looks and sounds rather great. As an electronic beat burbles and babbles, a scientist begins by asking, "What does it mean to be human?" It turns out that experiments are being conducted to use elements of the influenza virus to slow down the aging process. That kernel of an idea propels the teaser, which is filled with arresting images that suggest there is much more of the story to tell. Here's some official verbiage: The film is directed by André Hedetoft and Andreas Climent, best known for their popular short films like Double Trouble and Logan and commercials for Alfa Romeo, Comviq and Cadbury. It stars Emelia Hansson (Wallander), Rikard Björk (Johan Falk), Rafael Pettersson...

The story involves a couple of young ambitious scientists trying to figure out how to slow down the aging process at the cellular level, testing it on one of their friends. Of course, things start to get a bit crazy. Starring Emelia Hansson, Rikard Björk, Rafael Pettersson and Sandra Redlaff. This actually looks really good. I admire the cinematography, and I'm intrigued by the story. Take a look!
