- Inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, 2004.

- On 18 February 1994, at the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, he competed in the 1000-meter speed skating event. After slipping twice, he won the race and his first Olympic gold medal, after failing to win any medals in previous Olympic events. Jansen's winning of the "Gold...at Last" was ranked #15 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)". [17 July 2005 issue]
