Neon has released the first teaser trailer for The Life of Chuck. The upcoming movie is a "life-affirming, genre-bending story based on Stephen King's novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz."

The Life of Chuck was written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who previously helmed the Stephen King adaptations of Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Annalise Basso, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Harvey Guillén, Kate Siegel, and Mark Hamill, with Tom Hiddleston, Benjamin Pajak, Jacob Tremblay, and Cody Flanagan portraying the titular Chuck at different points in his life. The release date for Mike Flanagan’s highly-anticipated film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck short story has finally been announced. The movie will be led by Marvel vet Tom Hiddleston, who is playing the titular role of Charles Krantz.

Per ScreenRant, Neon will officially be releasing The Life of Chuck movie in theaters next spring on May 30, 2025. This comes after the film had its world premiere last September at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it successfully won the People’s Choice Award. Since then, the film has received positive early reactions from critics. It currently holds a Tomatometer score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film will be debuting in the same month as other high-profile movies like Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, and Sony Pictures’ Karate Kid: Legends.

Coming off from the success of its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, Mike Flanagans latest Stephen King movie The Life of Chuck officially lands a distributor. Per Deadline, Neon has acquired the theatrical distribution rights to The Life of Chuck, based on Kings 2020 novella which was published as part of the If It Bleeds collection. Neon is reportedly targeting a 2025 release for the acclaimed genre-bending movie. Following its major win at TIFF, Flanagan expressed his gratitude for receiving such a huge honor, revealing that he is overwhelmed by "happiness and gratitude" over the unexpected news. "Im absolutely overwhelmed. Were so grateful that The Life of Chuck connected with audiences in such a powerful way, but never expected this."

Mike Flanagan has been behind many successful projects, some of them adaptations of famous classic works like The Haunting of Hill House Netflix show or 2019's Doctor Sleep. A self-proclaimed Stephen King fan, the filmmaker tackled several projects based on King's work, the latest being The Life of Chuck, which he proudly calls his best work ever.

The Life of Chuck adapts the novella from the 2020 collection If It Bleeds, putting Tom Hiddleston in the spotlight as the titular character. The novella follows the eponymous character's life in reverse in three acts. The Life of Chuck director Mike Flanagan opened up about Stephen Kings involvement during the production of his upcoming film adaptation of Kings 2020 short story of the same name. This marks Flanagans third Stephen King movie, after directing the 2017 psychological thriller Geralds Game and 2019s The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Flanagan was asked about Kings behind-the-scenes involvement in The Life of Chuck movie. The Haunting of Hill House creator confirmed that he had a lot of conversations with King regarding "casting and other details" before the film went into production. However, during filming, King took a step back in order to give Flanagan the freedom to do what he wanted with the movie. "When we were doing The Life of Chuck, we talked a lot before production," Flanagan shared. "He has an enormous amount of approvals on things like casting and other details.

The Life of Chuck features a wide-ranging cast full of familiar faces. The project is an adaptation of the Stephen King novella published as part of the 2020 collection If It Bleeds, composed of the achronological stories "Thanks, Chuck," "Buskers," and "I Contain Multitudes." Mike Flanagan also didn't direct The Life of Chuck. Ahead of the movie's TIFF premiere, the filmmaker opened up about how author Stephen King almost prevented him from adapting his 2020 novella, which was published as part of the collection If It Bleeds.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, which debuted several first look images of The Life of Chuck, Flanagan explained how King usually "doesnt like to give the same filmmaker more than one thing, because it typically means one thing is not advancing at all." Since Flanagan had already acquired the rights to King's fantasy saga The Dark Tower with Trevor Macy, King was hesitant to let the filmmaker hop aboard another adaptation, out of fear that The Dark Tower would be put on the back burner. "He said, 'Well, lets focus on The Tower and Ill try to keep this one available for you for later,'" Flanagan recalled.
