Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith Plays “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit” on Drums: Watch
Image
Drumeo has dropped another Chad Smith clip, this time capturing the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer running through his take on “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit.”

For context, it’s a track Smith is familiar with — unlike his performance of a Thirty Seconds to Mars song that was the focus of a separate viral Drumeo clip that has since amassed 23 million views. Back in 2000, Smith played on a rock-oriented cover of the Wu-Tang classic alongside Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and members of Wu-Tang Clan, with the track being released on the Loud Rocks rap/rock crossover compilation.

Smith plays a mean beat on that cover, and he had no trouble recalling his part over 20 years later, playing directly over the recorded track for Drumeo.

Smith keeps with the boom-bap kick/snare arrangement of the original, complimenting it with hyperactive cymbalwork that he then mutes during the drops.

‘The Chosen’ Season 6 Receives a Holy Update
Image
He has spoken. The Chosen creator, Dallas Jenkins, has once again opened up with some fresh updates about the highly-anticipated sixth season of the biblical series and, this time, it’s actually good news. We’ve known for a while that the next set of episodes won’t be arriving anytime soon, but with Season 5 set to arrive on Prime Video on June 15, following a financially profitable run in cinemas, fans at least have something to look forward to. Although no release date has been set for Season 6, Jenkins revealed during a livestream (via ScreenRant), that audiences can look forward to longer episodes.

Keeping his cards close to his chest, the show’s creator, director, and co-scribe teased the sixth season's impending arrival, sharing, “Season 6, the first six episodes, are going to be coming out sometime next year,” before backtracking, “It won’t be early next year.” Walking a fine...

Ironheart star receives a blessing that could change the course of the show
Image
With so much content to look forward to right now, it's often easy to forget what shows are coming out and when they will arrive. That's particularly true with the Marvel shows on Disney Plus. When one project is complete, another one pops up. In this case, I’m talking about Marvel Studios’ Ironheart starring Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah) as Riri Williams and Anthony Ramos (In The Heights) as The Hood, which will arrive on the streamer next month.

The show has been in development for years, completing production close to three years ago. After a number of ucertain months, Marvel confirmed earlier this year that it would arrive this summer. There hasn’t been a lot of press for the show yet. Thankfully, one of Marvel Studios’ greatest actors has stepped in to help remind people about the upcoming program.

Dominique Thorne reveals she received Robert Downey Jr....

From Dracula to Alien: the evolution of space vampires
Image
The horrors of Alien and Lifeforce have their roots in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. A look at the roots of space vampires and their meaning:

What do you think of when you think of Dracula? Isolated Romanian castles? Villagers making holy signs to ward off evil? Crucifixes brandished like shields? Bram Stoker’s Dracula in the popular consciousness is the archetypal supernatural horror novel. A monster that cannot be killed by mortal means, but is to be warded off with garlic and crucifixes, bound by magical rules such as its inability to pass a threshold uninvited.

Although there are no vampires in the Bible, it is a monster intrinsically bound to Christian theology, from movies like Wes Craven’s gloriously trashy Dracula 2000 that revealed Dracula to be the cursed immortal, Judas, to Mike Flanagan’s miniseries Midnight Mass.

Yet when we go back to the source, the novel, Dracula,...

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Hollywood Bowl: Adam Lambert To Play Judas To Cynthia Erivo’s Jesus This Summer
Image
Adam Lambert will join Cynthia Erivo in Jesus Christ Superstar this summer for three nights Aug 1-3 at the Hollywood Bowl, with Lambert playing Judas to Erivo’s Jesus. The role Mary Magdalene has not yet been cast.

The announcement of Lambert arrives just one day before single tickets go on sale for the Bowl’s entire 2025 season of LA Phil-produced shows. Tickets for this and other Phil productions go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pt, after package deals for multiple shows previously went up for grabs. A Lambert/Erivo teaming seems likely to make Superstar one of the season’s quicker sellouts.

Lambert’s arrival in Hollywood follows his wrap after a celebrated six-month stint in the ongoing Broadway revival of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, in which he played the Emcee.

As previously announced, the Bowl’s three-night “Superstar” stand is being directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo,...

Andor season 2 speaks to a hunger for a deeper, more resonant Star Wars
Image
With spoilers, we look at how Andor season 2 brings a thematic depth to Star Wars that makes its flaws easier to overlook.

Nb: The following contains spoilers for Andor season 2 episodes 1 to 3.

For all the eloquent dialogue about rebellion and self-sacrifice, it’s the simplest images that stick in the memory: a Tie Fighter’s guns turned on the Empire that created it might be one of the single most satisfying sights we’ve had from Star Wars in years.

Yes, Andor’s back for a second season, and looking at the largely rapturous online response, it satisfies an audience hunger for a Star Wars story that does more than cosset its viewers in fantasy and nostalgia. Once again, showrunner Tony Gilroy brings a historian’s eye to the story of the Rebel Alliance versus the Empire, exploring both the cogs behind the fascistic war machine and how a disparate...

'He Radiated Goodness': Martin Scorsese on the Death of Pope Francis
Image
Filmmaker Martin Scorsese says he was lucky to have known the late Pope Francis, and over the years, he visited the Vatican several times, where he got to know the Pope. Pope Francis died April 21 at the age of 88. His papacy began in 2013.

“There is so much that can be said about the significance of Pope Francis and everything he meant to the world, to the church, to the papacy. I will leave that to others, Scorsese began in a statement to Variety. “He was, in every way, a remarkable human being. He acknowledged his own failings. He radiated wisdom. He radiated goodness. He had an ironclad commitment to the good,” he said.

The Loss “Runs Deep” for the Director

The Oscar-winning director of The Departedcontinued, “He knew in his soul that ignorance was a terrible plague on humanity. So he never stopped learning. And he never stopped enlightening. And,...

'The Chosen: Last Supper' Has Risen as Top-Grossing Installment of Biblical Franchise
Image
The fifth season of the television series The Chosen, which is currently being screened theatrically in three installments, witnessed a bit of an anticlimax on Easter weekend. Released as The Chosen: Last Supper by Fathom Entertainment, the fifth season is now the series’ highest-grossing chapter, having passed the $40 million combined domestic box office haul of Season 4. Its current combined total stands at over $43 million, while the franchise’s total haul passed the $110 million mark some days ago. However, the trilogy faced tough competition in the form of the animated film The King of Kings this past week, as it appeared to lose steam.

The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1 has generated over $20 million in over two weeks of release, making it the highest-grossing installment of not only Season 5, but the franchise as a whole. Released a week later, The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 2 has made a total of $12 million so far,...

Ryan Coogler and His Proximity Banner Are Playing the Long Game
Image
The time it takes to produce a feature film can span studio heads, a pivot to streaming and a merger or two.

As original movies take longer and longer to work their way through the studio machinery, the pace of change at studios, from strategies and shifting priorities, has sped up. Even the most veteran filmmakers have been entrapped in that antagonistic push and pull.

Sinners, the latest from filmmaker Ryan Coogler, landed at Warner Bros. at the top of 2024. A year and some change later, is hitting theaters this weekend. As for how Coogler ended up anomalously pushing his movie through a post-pandemic, post-strikes entertainment industry in what amounts to land speed record timing, that’s a longer story.

Coogler’s path from Sundance Film Festival wunderkind to seasoned blockbuster filmmaker is well known. In a sentence: The indie debut Fruitvale Station led to a shot as resuscitating a...

Image
For the third time in as many days, Emilia Pérez star and Best Actress nominee Karla Sofía Gascón released a statement that sought to contextualize several offensive social media posts she wrote over the last five years. “The first thing I would like to do is to sincerely apologize to all those who have felt bad about the way I have expressed myself at any stage of my life,” Gascón wrote Saturday on Instagram.

Adding that she has “many things to learn in this world,” Gascón wrote, “Life has taught me something I never wanted to learn: it is clear to me that as much as your message is one, without using the correct words, it becomes another.”

Karla Sofia Gascón apologizes after intense backlash for old social media posts about Muslims, George Floyd
Image
Less than one day after becoming embroiled in a social media tempest over comments made about Fernanda Torres, Emilia Pérez star and Best Actress nominee Karla Sofia Gascón is now under fire for old social media posts about Islam and George Floyd, among other hot-button topics.

In one since-deleted post from Sept. 2, 2020, Gascón wrote, “Islam is marvelous, without any machismo. Women are respected, and when they are so respected they are left with a little squared hole on their faces for their eyes to be visible and their mouths, but only if she behaves. ‘A Complete Unknown’ Director Mangold Faces Criticism Over Dylan Biopic Authenticity
James Mangold in Logan (2017)
James Mangold’s new musical biography, “A Complete Unknown,” is getting mixed reviews for its portrayal of Bob Dylan’s early life. While critics have praised Timothée Chalamet’s performance, they have raised questions about how historically accurate the movie is regarding the folk legend’s rise to fame.

The movie follows Dylan’s life from 1961 to 1965, from the time he moved to New York City at age 19 to his controversial electric performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Many people like Chalamet’s performance as Dylan, but some critics say the movie changes the real story of Dylan’s artistic growth in ways that aren’t true.

Mangold is known for directing “Walk the Line,” a biopic about Johnny Cash. He focuses on the dramatic tension between Dylan and the folk music establishment. People don’t like this focus because it makes it seem like Dylan came to New...

The rise of feature films based on video games continues with one of the most memorable computer games of the late 80s and early 90s getting an adaptation. Reportedly, the movie will be an action-comedy, which seems appropriate, given the humorous elements of the original game.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a new movie based on The Oregon Trail is in early development at Apple. While not many details are yet known, it's been reported that Will Speck and Josh Gordon are on board to direct and produce. The film will reportedly feature original musical numbers, drawing comparisons to Barbie, and Egot winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will be providing original music. The Lucas Bros., who were nominated for an Academy Award for penning Judas and the Black Messiah, are writing the screenplay with Max Reisman.

Prince Harry & Meghan’s Friends Have Ditched Them In Favor Of Prince William and Kate
Image
British royal family news shows that the late Diana likely never imagined a day in which her two children, Prince Harry and Prince William, would feud in public for what is now going on four years.

According to InStyle the last time the brothers saw each other in person was at their father King Charles’ coronation in May 2023. It was widely reported that Harry left the event early, stayed in the UK roughly 24 hours, and had to find himself a hotel room for the night.

‘The Instigators’ Review: Matt Damon and Casey Affleck Aren’t Half-Bad as Blue-Collar Accessories to a Shambolic Heist
Image
Anyone can see that the heist at the heart of “The Instigators” is a bad idea: A two-bit crime boss knows the Boston mayor has been padding his pockets for decades, and figures they’re never fatter than on election night, when Beantown’s biggest donors fork over envelopes stuffed with cash. Said mobster wants to send in a team of dimwitted guys to relieve the crooked politician of all those 11th-hour “campaign contributions.” There’s just one small problem: “What if Choy wins the run-off?” asks Matt Damon’s Rory, who figures the corruption they’re targeting could cost the mayor the election.

In “The Instigators,” that small problem quickly snowballs into a veritable avalanche of complications, as Damon and Casey Affleck play characters grossly ill-equipped to be stealing from Boston’s most powerful man. As blue-collar Rory, Damon represents the unshaven and inexperienced polar opposite of a pro like Jason Bourne.

Image
With 2025 as the official release date for GTA 6, gamers are champing at the bit for anything new about the game coming from Rockstar. The previous trailer gave us a fair bit to consider, but there is always more to be shown, especially given the long development process of the title.

Conferences and expos are prime opportunities for studios to reveal their games, and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is soon approaching. However, there will be no GTA 6 content at the event, and it’s not the only studio choosing to keep quiet about its upcoming project.

GTA 6, Judas, Half-Life 3, and More To Skip Summer Game Fest Judas, like GTA 6, will not be appearing at the Summer Game Fest.

E3 was that yearly unifying event that brought gamers across platforms under one roof where studios could regale us with their newest offerings. The demise of E3 was bittersweet, as it...

With the competition officially dead and buried, the gaming industry staple that is Geoff Keighley now theoretically has a clear run to claim all of the huge announcements for himself. With that being said, we are already aware that 2024 is going to be a quieter year in terms of significant game releases.

In fact, Geoff has actually already attempted to quell the hype levels somewhat through his Q&a, claiming that the show will be an eight out of ten. Although, the tinfoil hat wearers amongst the community have claimed that his statement was nothing more than a cheap ploy to throw audiences off.

Whatever the case may be, we only have a couple of days left to wait before the big show takes place, so without further ado, let’s get on...
