LeBron James Passes Leadership of ‘More Than a Vote’ to WNBA Star Nneka Ogwumike
Image
More Than a Vote is getting new leadership, and a new focus.

The non-profit voting rights initiative founded by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will turn its attention to women’s rights and reproductive freedom for the 2024 election, with James passing the leadership baton to WNBA Seattle Storm star Nneka Ogwumike.

More Than a Vote has also assembled a coalition of female athletes to help educate audiences about the threat facing women’s rights. The athletes involved include fellow basketball players Cameron Brink, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Lisa Leslie, Jewell Lloyd, Chiney Ogwumike, Kiki Rice, Breanna Stewart, Sheryl Swoopes and A’ja Wilson, as well as the Nwsl’s Madison Hammond.

“Women’s sports have experienced incredible growth over the course of my 13-year career in the WNBA. But over that very same span, I’ve watched legislators chip away at my rights and the rights of every athlete who...

Angel Reese Signs With New Women’s 3-On-3 Basketball League
Image
Angel Reese, one of the rookie stars of the WNBA, is signing with the Unrivaled 3-on-3 basketball league, which will play in the winter.

The announcement on Reese was made on Instagram on Wednesday morning. The league, which was started by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, will provide an off-season outlet to women pro players, many of whom head to overseas teams when the WNBA is not in season.

The league boasts the “highest average salary in professional women’s sports history,” saying all players will get six-figure salaries and equity. Much has been made of the low starting salaries for WNBA players, although the amounts are subsidized by endorsements and other ancillary income.

Reese set a record for double-doubles earlier this season and is leading the WNBA in rebounding as a rookie. She’s averaging 13.5 points and 12 rebounds a game. She and Caitlin Clark are the top...

Caitlin Clark Likely Not On Team USA Summer Olympics Women’s Basketball Team – Report
Image
Caitlin Clark is not likely to be a member of the 12-player Team USA women’s basketball squad for the Summer Olympics, The Athletic reports, citing several sources.

The popular Indiana Fever rookie, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, is being bypassed in favor of veterans.

Reports indicate the roster will feature players A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Alyssa Thomas, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Chelsea Gray and Kahleah Copper.

The U.S. women should be a favorite in Paris.

Clark still has an outside chance of being on the squad as an injury replacement. She missed Team USA’s tryouts in the spring because of her Iowa team’s deep run in the NCAA tournament.

It’s been a rough introducion to the WNBA for Clark, who has been “hammered” in her own words, including one non-basketball foul by a Chicago Fever player.
