In 2007, Swank promoted the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign, which donates real-hair wigs to women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. She promoted them again in 2008. She donated her own hair both times.
She also launched an around-the-world relay race, organized by the Blue Planet Run Foundation, to raise money to help people without safe drinking water. The relay runners ran 750 miles each over 95 days in various countries.

Spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3 to follow.
After six incredible seasons with some genuinely wild plot threads sweeping the legs of audiences, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) has taken over the Cobra Kai dojo as Sekai Taikai champion, becoming a sensei with lessons of his own to learn. Along the way, he and his foe-turned-friend, Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio), encountered plenty of forgotten faces from the original "Karate Kid" trilogy. Staples like John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) have caused continuous issues for our heroes. At the same time, fan favorites like Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) still had stories to finish by the time the last punch was thrown. But even after all that, could the guest list for Miyagi-Do have been a little bigger? Could time have been made to bring some other essential players in the "Karate Kid" franchise back for a final round, and if not,...

What if the sprawling world of The Karate Kid franchise had another surprise up its sleeve? For years, we have wondered why Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce never appeared in Cobra Kai.
Hilary Swank in The Next Karate Kid | Columbia Pictures
She was amazing as the protagonist of The Next Karate Kid, so it was upsetting to see that the show brought every character, from Terry Silver to Chozen, into the picture but left out Swank. Now, with Karate Kid: Legends on the horizon, reviving her character doesn’t seem to be off the table and makes more sense than ever.
Could Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han be connected to Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid universe? Jackie Chan in a still from Karate Kid: Legends | Columbia Pictures
The Next Karate Kid wasn’t just a meaningless chapter in the franchise but a deep dive into Mr. Miyagi’s past.

Cobra Kai’s showrunner Jon Hurwitz has addressed the cameo, or lack thereof, of Hilary Swank's character in the series finale. Swank played Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid, the fourth movie in the Karate Kid franchise and Pat Morita's last appearance as Mr. Miyagi. The film's reception was not good, and it ended up burying the franchise until the 2010 reboot. Although the showrunners and writers found a way to bring back almost every single character, even those played by late actors, Swank was one of the biggest legacy characters who wasn't present in the show. And we finally know the reason why.

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
The best legacy sequels use familiar faces to attract franchise devotees while also introducing fresh characters to pull in a whole new generation. For six wild seasons of television, "Cobra Kai" managed to do just that, giving both the younger and older members of the "Karate Kid" property equal time to shine. There were, admittedly, moments when the show seemed in danger of sinking under the weight of all its callbacks and returning players. But "Cobra Kai" managed to push its legacy sequel inclinations to such extremes that it circled back around to being oddly endearing -- for the most part.
With each passing season, it also became apparent that pretty much any "Karate Kid" movie character, no matter how small, beloved or maligned, was fair game to return. Indeed, Thomas Ian Griffith's Terry Silver went from the slimy, over-the-top...

Netflix’s hit Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai has taken its final bow after making its last appearance at the All-Valley Tournament. The show brought back nearly all the legacy characters from the original movies along with several small side characters who were impressively incorporated. Many fans were wondering if the show would go as far as to include Julie Pierce, who was the focus of The Next Karate Kid and portrayed by Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
Julie did not make an appearance in the final leg of the show and Cobra Kai creator Jon Hurwitz has taken to social media to explain why. Hurwitz held a Q&a with fans and one of the questions simply asked, “why no Hilary Swank?” Hurwitz revealed that they had tried to arrange her appearance, but to no avail as he explained,

Released in 2018, Cobra Kai had a great run for six seasons on Netflix as an extension of the hit franchise The Karate Kid. And the series finale also delivered an emotional and action-packed conclusion that satisfied longtime fans of the franchise.

However, despite the near-perfect sendoff, one creative choice that continues to divide audiences has been the return of Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi through a CGI-enhanced dream sequence. Instead, the series could have avoided it by bringing back Hilary Swank’s Julie Pierce to resolve Daniel’s conflicts regarding Mr. Miyagi’s mysterious past.
How Hilary Swank could have helped in avoiding the controversial return of Mr. Miyagi
Ralph Macchio has shared that he wanted to honor Mr. Miyagi’s legacy throughout Cobra Kai. However, while the tribute carried emotional weight, it received mixed reactions from fans, with many finding the CGI and AI-enhanced return of the character unnecessary.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for the end of Cobra Kai.After 65 episodes spread throughout six seasons, The Karate Kid legacy sequel series, Cobra Kai, has come to a close on Netflix. Since the conclusion of John G. Avildsen's The Karate Kid trilogy starring Ralph Macchio, the franchise has attempted to continue in different ways. The Next Karate Kid kept Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi but featured Hilary Swank as the new titular kid studying under him. Although it's considered Swank's breakout role, the film was not well received by critics and fans. 16 years later, a remake starring Jackie Chanand Jaden Smith was made with original Karate Kid writer Robert Mark Kamen returning to pen the story. Although titled The Karate Kid, the film featured kung fu instead of karate as the martial arts style. Even though it was a strange decision, that didn't stop the movie...

The Karate Kid franchise started as a film series in 1984, but. After several successful films, the universe was brought back to life in 2018 with the series Cobra Kai, which ended after six seasons.
The original series was created by Robert Mark Kamen, but Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg took the universe to the small screen, bringing back several key characters. The new series followed Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as the main characters, reprising their roles as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence. Throughout the series, many actors from the films reprised their roles in main, guest, or recurring roles, but co-creator Jon Hurwitz told ScreenRant which cameo they wished they had in the series finale.

Cobra Kaihas officially ended, and while many characters from the Karate Kid franchise returned at some point, there was one that was strangely absent: Julie Pierce from The Next Karate Kid, played by Oscar-winner Hilary Swank. Even minor figures from the franchise had their respective cameos, making fans think that Pierce would also show up in the sixth and final season. Ultimately, it didn't happen, and co-creator Jon Hurwitz has revealed why.

Warning! The Following Contains Spoilers from Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3.
Ralph Macchio is definitely open to waxing on and off again in a future Cobra Kai film if it's done under the right conditions. Until then, though, Season 6 Part 3 officially marks the bittersweet swan song for Netflix’s continuation of the Miyagi-verse, which expanded The Karate Kid’s beloved mythology on the small screen thanks to showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg.
However, Macchio himself, who will appear again as his crane-kicking character in this summer’s Karate Kid: Legends, would definitely suit up in Daniel Larusso’s trademark gi under the right circumstances for a Cobra Kai film down the road. Macchio said in an interview with The New York Times:
"Listen, I said it was the end for me when I got done with the last 1980s Karate Kid movie. So, I will say never say never.

"Cobra Kai" spoilers follow.
While the movie was blasted by critics at the time of its release, there's an argument to be made that "The Next Karate Kid" deserves more respect than it gets. After all, it gives us more insights into the life of Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), features a group of truly despicable villains, and boasts all of the sentiments we want from a "Karate Kid" flick. More than anything, it's led by an awesome protagonist in the form of Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank) -- a character many fans would like to see given a new lease of life on "Cobra Kai," even though her original movie outing is polarizing.
Ralph Macchio didn't return for "The Next Karate Kid," ultimately robbing fans of the opportunity to see his Daniel Larusso character team up with Julie. Unfortunately, "Cobra Kai" season 6 also fails to make that dream come true, as...

“The only way to truly be safe is to be the only one left,” says Melanie Lynskey in Yellowjackets season three.
The warning comes in the new, official trailer (below) for the return of the survival-horror-coming of age drama that follows Lynskey and her fellow survivors of a plane crash that left them stranded in the remote wilderness for 19 months when they were teenagers, leading them to resort to cannibalism in order to survive.
The full trailer follows up on a previous, terrifying teaser that had revealed this season would be about both a haunting and a hunting, as the hit Showtime series continues to follow the survivors in dual timelines: present-day in 2021 with Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell; and in the 1996 crash timeline with their younger counterparts and additional survivors played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson,...

Hungry for some new episodes of Showtime’s “Yellowjackets”? Ravenous perhaps? Well dig in, because your first look at Season 3 is here.
Featuring returning players Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cyprus, Lauren Ambrose, and Elijah Wood, the older cast is now joined by Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank in an unknown role, but one thing’s for sure: She doesn’t seem happy to be crossing paths with this crew.
In the past timeline of the series, winter is finally subsiding, giving way to spring, but that doesn’t mean any less troubles ahead for the stranded teens, as their animalistic tendencies only seem to be growing with each passing day. In addition to living characters played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Courtney Eaton, the first looks also hints at the return of Ella Purnell as the ghost of Jackie, the first eaten by the group.

"Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the wilderness, and they went completely nuts." It's a tale as old as time, and also how the trailer for the third season of Yellowjackets begins, giving us our first real look at the show's sure-to-be-horrifying next installment.
And, well? Things decidedly don't look good for everyone's favorite soccer team champions turned cultish cannibalistic survivalists. On the upside, though, the terrifying trailer also gave our first look at Oscar winner and season three guest star, Hilary Swank, arriving to the Yellowjackets world just in time for things to get really real — and with a whispered "sh*t" before the terrified actress takes off running away from something rattling and unseen.

By the end of "Yellowjackets" season 2, it seemed we'd met all the survivors of Flight 2525's fateful crash into the wilderness. But the Ccxp teaser trailer for "Yellowjackets" season 3 has just introduced a new wild card: a mystery character played by Hilary Swank ("Million Dollar Baby"), who is around the same age as the rest of the present day cast, and is seen standing in the road with a bloodied face and makeshift bandage on her arm.
"The past will come back to hunt you," the trailer warns, before teasing fresh mysteries and more reveals from the past. Though some character deaths have been revealed as the 1996 storyline has progressed, many characters' fates are still technically ambiguous, and fans are holding out hope that there might be more crash survivors out there. Things are only getting more difficult for the crash survivors in both the past and the present timelines with “Yellowjackets” Season 3.
The first teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated third season makes it plain what’s coming: the past. The warning is blasted loud over the first look, saying, “The past will come back to you.”

What follows is a smattering of images that show the ’90s crash survivors devolving further into their tribal and cult-like thinking – some even saying things like “can’t believe we didn’t eat that bitch first” – while the present day survivors try to figure out who is hunting them.

Hilary Swank was recently added to the cast of Yellowjackets season 3, and her new character may just give audiences a glimpse at one of the series' biggest storylines. First released in 2021, Yellowjackets is a supernatural drama series that follows dual timelines. One sees a girls high school soccer team get into a plane crash in the middle of an isolated forest. The second follows those same girls in their adulthood as they reunite and deal with the consequences of their pasts. The series currently has two seasons, and a third is being developed for 2025.
A major component of Yellowjackets is its large cast of talented women. From Christina Ricci and Melanie Lynskey to Ella Purnell and Sophie Thatcher, the series shines due to the darkly funny and intense performances of these women. However, the story of Yellowjackets is far from being over, and more amazing characters may be on the horizon.

Although Cobra Kai uses a blend of new characters and existing stars from the larger Karate Kid franchise, some of the show's most exciting moments are when familiar faces return decades later, but there's one actor who has yet to come back and has perhaps always been unlikely to. To put it another way, some of the best Cobra Kai characters were also prominent Karate Kid figures in the original trilogy of movies. The buzz that's been caused by established figures coming back throughout the spinoff show is a big part of why it has continued to happen.
There's only really one remaining character who could create excitement if they came back now. They'd need to be part of the Cobra Kai season 6 cast, as the show is set to end after the final episodes of the run have aired. That being said, every returning star has been well-received for...

Production is currently taking place in Vancouver, Canada, for the highly anticipated Yellowjackets season 3, and we can't wait to see the horror series return next year! We've just learned some good news about the upcoming season and it involves a new cast addition.
Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank has reportedly joined the cast of Yellowjackets for its third season. This news comes only a month after learning that Joel McHale (Animal Control) joined the cast. Unfortunately, like McHale's casting, it's unknown who Swank will be playing in the series. All that was revealed about her casting is that she'll be taking on a recurring guest star role. However, Deadline reports that there's a possibility she could be upped to series regular if there is to be a fourth season.
I don't know about you, but I'm a fan of Swank and would love to see more of her in Yellowjackets.

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The I Am Mother ending completes the science-fiction thriller's roller-coaster ride of tension and paranoia about the death and rebirth of the human race. A teenage girl, simply called "Daughter" (Clare Rugaard), lives all alone with her robot guardian, Mother, and believes the outside world to be a toxic wasteland until the discovery of Woman (Hilary Swank), who makes her believe Mother hasn't been telling her the whole truth. Released in the United States by Netflix and StudioCanal in Australia, the film is an Australian-American co-production directed by Grant Sputore and written by Michael Lloyd Green.
A relatively small production, the action takes place within the confines of Mother and Daughter's base, a futuristic laboratory that houses 16,000 embryos to restart human civilization following an extinction-level event. Much happens in I Am Mother, with almost every scene introducing a new piece of information in the winding mystery. Daughter finds herself stuck...

This post contains spoilers for "Logan Lucky."
Steven Soderbergh rarely ever misses. The director almost retired some time back with the intention of 2013's "Behind the Candelabra" being the final film he would helm, but thankfully, that did not come to pass. The script for "Logan Lucky" intrigued Soderbergh so much that he came out of retirement to direct it, and since then, he has been steadily involved in several projects over the years, including the upcoming "Presence," which emerges as a brilliant entry in the supernatural horror genre. The 2017 heist-comedy, "Logan Lucky," is quite underrated when mapped against the rest of Soderbergh's filmography, but the film has made somewhat of a comeback, as it is currently among Netflix's Top 10 movies in the U.S. (via FlixPatrol).
This prompts the question: why is "Logan Lucky" suddenly making a resurgence? Well, for starters, the film makes the most of the...

Clint Eastwood really did a number on his audience with Million Dollar Baby. The sports drama is unforgettable in more ways than one, especially thanks to the gut-wrenching ending where his character, Frankie, puts daughter-like Maggie to rest for good, despite his fatherly affection for her. As he injects a fatal injection into her, the audience’s happiness dies along with Maggie. Honestly, there is just something about Clint Eastwood when it comes to creating movies.

Despite his proven record and a ground-shattering idea, Warner Bros. was just not interested in financing a boxing movie. When they finally agreed, most of their interest was in other films including Tom Hanks’ Polar Express. Clint Eastwood soon realized that it was up to him and his team to determine Million Dollar Baby’s fate.

Hollywood is reeling from the death of Al S. Ruddy, the Oscar-winning producer of such iconic films as The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby. Ruddy passed on May 25 at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center after a brief illness. The multi-hyphenate filmmaker was 94.

From humble beginnings to the highest of Hollywood accolades. His was an incredible journey. Achieved through the sheer power of his determination, strong will, irrepressible energy and charm and a rarely matched love for the art of film.”

Twenty years ago this month, the fairy tale-like romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner made its way into cinemas. The actress played Jenna Rink, a socially awkward soon-to-be 13-year-old who quickly realizes that she “hates being 13.” She makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty and thriving.” With the little help of some wishing dust, she wakes up the next morning to discover that her wish has come true.
It was a defining moment in Garner’s early career. Her role as Sydney Bristow in the television action thriller series “Alias” had made her a breakout star (including at awards shows) just a few years earlier. She won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress in 2002 and had competed again in 2003 and earlier in 2004. She had also been nominated for two Emmy Awards one Screen Actors Guild trophy.

For anyone worried that Ordinary Angels looks too narrowly faith-based, fret not. But for those looking for a story that reminds us of the power of faith, you're also in for a treat here. The new drama from director Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) offers a lovely balance and walks a fine line.
It's only rated PG, but that shouldn't deter hardcore film buffs who might be in the mood for a tearjerker of a story. There's currently a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles that reads something to the effect of, "Binge One Day Alone So You Can Ugly Cry in Peace." The hit Netflix series will certainly bring tears to your eyes, and it has that in common with the heart-wrenching Ordinary Angels. Starring Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank and Reacher star Alan Ritchson, Ordinary Angels is impactful, well-acted, and avoids cheesiness for the most part.

Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” will retain its holding as the top film on domestic charts this weekend, besting a trio of new releases in the manga adaptation “Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba — To the Hashira Training,” the faith-based Hilary Swank drama “Ordinary Angels” and Ethan Coen’s lesbian crime caper “Drive-Away Dolls.”
“One Love” added $3.7 million to its domestic haul on Friday, marking a modest 51% drop from its gross seven days ago. After opening on Valentine’s Day, the Bob Marley biopic has now earned a solid $61 million across its first 10 days in North American theaters. To compare against genre contemporaries, it’s pacing a bit ahead of the $50 million that “Rocketman” earned in 2019 across the same period of time, and a chunk behind 2022’s “Elvis,” which nabbed $66 million in 10 days. Worldwide, “One Love” has now surpassed $100 million.
Crunchyroll and Sony’s release of the new “Demon Slayer” entry looks to take silver.

Alan Ritchson plays Ed in Ordinary Angels, and his journey as a father will tug at your heartstrings & inspire. Ritchson's emotional portrayal will bring tears to your eyes and showcases his diverse acting skills. The Reacher star says that working with Hilary Swank in this true story was a privilege and a rewarding experience.
Alan Ritchson fans perhaps know him best as the titular hero in Reacher, which is returning for a third season on Prime Video. But in the meantime, he's starring in an all-new project with a softer edge, but it still packs an emotional gut-punch. In Ordinary Angels, he plays Ed, a "lone wolf" father of two daughters — one of whom is in dire need of a liver transplant at just 5 years of age. It's based on an incredible true story and also features Oscar winner Hilary Swank — who recently shot down rumors of being involved in...

Kelly Fremon Craig is among my favorite filmmakers when it comes to coming-of-age stories. Both The Edge of Seventeen and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. have marked the genre in such a way that any work coming from her immediately captures my attention. Although only contributing to the screenplay co-written with Meg Tilly – better known as an actress in Agnes of God or Psycho II – it’s enough to give Ordinary Angels two hours of my time.
Directed by Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) – no, the filmmaker shares no affinity with James Gunn – and starring Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) and Alan Ritchson (Reacher), the film is inspired by a true story from 1994 in Louisville, Kentucky, where Michelle Schmitt, a sick child whose only chance of survival was a liver transplant, becomes dependent on the miraculous help of her community to overcome...

Driven by their devout Christianity, the Erwin brothers — Andrew and Jon — have never been shy about the agenda behind their work. “Our mission,” it says on their website, “is simply to spread the Gospel further than it’s ever been using film as the medium,” and that mission has seen their Kingdom Story Company evolve into one of the biggest forces in America’s burgeoning “faith-based” sub-genre.
In light of the brothers’ stated purpose, however, it’s strange that they’ve responded to their success by making increasingly secular movies. Perhaps that’s just part of the Erwins’ plan to widen the tent and share Jesus’ light with people who haven’t necessarily sought it out for themselves, but it’s hard to overstate the difference between their self-directed 2012 debut — the virulently anti-abortion drama “October Baby” — and the latest feature they’ve produced, a hokey but harmless Hilary Swank vehicle...
