Jack Rooke
Big Boys | Trailer released for series 3 of Channel 4 sitcom
Jack Rooke
Jack Rooke’s sweet, award-winning sitcom Big Boys is returning for a third series, and here’s the trailer for it.

Big Boys, Jack Rooke’s autobiographical sitcom about his experience at university, has been one of the comedic treats of the last few years.

Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing play two disparate young men, Jack and Danny, who find themselves as roommates in their first year of University. The former is closeted and sensitive, the latter is full of boorish bonhomie, but despite their differences they form a touching, tender bond, and Rooke’s writing covers everything from Jack exploring his sexuality to Danny’s mental health.

The show received critical acclaim for Rooke’s refusal to adhere to the usual masculine stereotypes seen on TV and for highlighting mental health struggles.

It proved to be a hit for Channel 4, who quickly ordered a second series,...

‘Big Boys’ Renewed For Third & Final Season At Channel 4
Image
Big Boys, one of Channel 4’s biggest comedies of the decade, has been renewed for a third and final season. Watch the trailer below.

The show from Jack Rooke and starring Derry Girls’ Dylan Llewellyn will see the gang enter their final year at Brent Uni, with all the ups and downs of dissertations, deadlines, dating and the devastating departure of Louis Walsh from The X-Factor. Peggy and Shannon embark on new romances and never-ending nappy changes, whilst Jack and Danny’s friendship is tested to its limits as they realise proper adult life is coming.

Of the show concluding, Rooke said: “Ten years ago I took a rather ramshackle comedy-theatre hour about grief and friendship to a damp cave at the Edinburgh Fringe and never thought a decade later it’d be a silly, sweet lil sitcom about a lad’s lad and a dweeby gay becoming best mates.

This X-Factor Audition Turned Violent After Two Contestants Walked Off The Stage
Image
Reality talent shows succeed because viewers love cheering on their favorites and witnessing dreams come true. Bad auditions also entertain, as seen in the dramatic Ablisa incident on the UK version of The X-Factor. Abbey and Lisa's friendship turned ugly on stage with squabbles, forgotten lyrics, and even a physical altercation.

A big reason reality talent competitions are so successful is because viewers love rooting for their favorite to win. Viewers love watching talented and deserving people achieve their dreams. It's especially meaningful when audiences feel a connection with a contestant from their audition to the very end of the show.

This is the kind of success Kelly Clarkson accomplished when she became the winner of the first season of American Idol.

However, another major source of entertainment has also been the bad, embarrassing auditions. One such incident occurred during the UK version of The X-Factor in 2010. Audiences reacted with...

The talk show has the hosts discussing current issues, and on one episode, they discussed comments Piers Morgan made about Meghan Markle. Sharon defended Piers, a friend of hers.

After Markle was on an Oprah Winfrey interview and talked about her mental health struggles due to racism. Piers was less than sympathetic.

Sharon Osbourne Says She’s ‘Banned in America’ After ‘The Talk’ Firing
Image
American TV viewers haven’t seen Sharon Osbourne much since her contentious exit from The Talk in 2021, and now the former talk show cohost claims she’s persona non grata in the United States. “I got banned in America,” Osbourne told Celebrity Big Brother housemates Lauren Simon and Louis Walsh on Thursday’s episode of the British reality show, as seen in a Daily Mail video. Osbourne also agreed when Walsh, a music manager who judged the British X Factor, said that Osbourne was faultless. “I did nothing wrong,” she said, echoing Walsh’s words. And when Simon, a cast member of The Real Housewives of Cheshire, asked if Osbourne couldn’t work in American TV now, Osbourne said, “I can legally, but nobody will employ me because they say I’m racist.” Simon then pointed out that Osbourne is Jewish, Us Weekly reports. “I know, and that’s what I said to them!

After 40 Pound Weight Loss On Ozempic, Sharon Osbourne Demands Her Own Suite On ‘Celebrity Big Brother’
Image
Sharon Osbourne has demanded to stay in separate living quarters from other Celebrity Big Brother housemates, a command her bosses granted to keep her on the show.

Osbourne, 71, entered the house on Monday night with Louis Walsh. The two television personalities were kept in a secret lair and were able to critique their co-stars from afar.

A source close to the show told the Daily Mail that Osbourne will be staying in her own suite.

“Sharon is Celebrity Big Brother‘s star signing so producers were prepared to make her living situation more comfortable, especially given her age,” the source said.

“Viewers will see Sharon in her own room complete with an ensuite during Tuesday night’s episode but she will still be interacting with the other housemates and be a part of the main action in the house.”

Sharon Osbourne: Simon Cowell’s never been a friend
Image
TV star Sharon Osbourne would never judge a small screen talent show again because she doesn’t like how young contestants are treated. She also spoke about her co-judge Simon Cowell and said that he’s “never been a friend” of hers. The 71-year-old star was a judge on ‘The X Factor’ from 2004 to 2007, before returning in 2013, and again from 2016 to 2017, and also sat on the ‘America’s Got Talent’ panel between 2007 to 2012.

She told Best magazine: “I’d never do a talent show again. I’ve come to realise that the way they’re run isn’t right. Take kids. It’s not fair to put them through that schedule, that hard work.

“That’s particularly true of reality-based shows.

“The young people who appear on them are not mentally prepared for what is going to happen to them. When they fall by the wayside, they get brushed aside.”

Simon Cowell says The X Factor will ‘more likely than not’ return in 2024
Image
Simon Cowell has said that The X Factor will “more likely than not” return to screens in 2024.

The record executive, best known for judging The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, said he is often asked when the talent contest will return and will only bring it back if he could “go back to where the show started”.

The X Factor first aired in 2004 and catapulted artists such as One Direction, Little Mix and Leona Lewis to stardom, before concluding in 2018.

In an interview with The Sun, Cowell said: “The funny thing is that when young people approach me on the street, all they want to know is when X Factor is coming back.

“They all watch it on YouTube. When we stopped the show, I genuinely thought there was no need for it — that everyone would be signed from YouTube.”

“But there are so many people wanting to...

Rylan: ‘If Mary in Old Drearysville’s got an issue, she can f*** off’
Image
The year had barely started when the tabloids came for Rylan. Back in January, a video of the presenter on a night out in Soho, filmed by an anonymous person, was posted online. In the clip, the unknown figure is seen laughing with Rylan who, with a megawatt grin on his face, declares with gleeful abandon: “Give me the gear!” As far as the tabloids were concerned, they’d got the goods. “Rylan Clark caught demanding drugs,” one headline read. Another called him “troubled”. But what they failed to understand was that the TV star was – shock horror! – making a joke.

“It was a drug dealer outside Freedom,” says the 33-year-old TV and radio host, with a hint of frustration in his voice. “He’s filming and comes and puts his arm around me, so I’ve joked, ‘Come on then, get the gear out.’ If I was doing a line off someone’s chest,...

The Truth About How Nicole Scherzinger Hand-Picked One Direction
Nicole Scherzinger
From the very beginning, Nicole Scherzinger knew the members of One Direction had that one thing. Earlier this year, X Factor U.K shared previously unreleased footage showing exactly how the boy band was formed by judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Nicole online. While many people had previously credited Simon as being the mastermind behind the group's pairing, the clip revealed that the Pussycat Dolls singer actually played a much larger role than people knew.  During an appearance on Sherri, Nicole shared what her reaction was to fans finally learning the truth behind that moment, admitting the release was "kind of crazy." Watch One Direction Be Put Together in Never-Before-Seen X-Factor Video
Simon Cowell in American Idol: The Search for a Superstar (2002)
For the members of One Direction, the story of my life could've gone a whole lot differently.   On July 23, to celebrate the beloved boyband's 12th anniversary, Fremantle Media released a never-before-seen video of the group filmed during season seven of The X Factor U.K. in 2010. The clip shows judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh forming One Direction after testing out different member combinations. As the trio peer over a table covered in photos of potential soloists, Nicole suggests that they create "an imaginary boy group instead of just saying, 'no.'" She then takes the photo of Niall Horan from Louis and...

Will Arnett in Murderville (2022)
Murderville: Will Arnett Improv Comedy Misses What Made the UK Original Great
Will Arnett in Murderville (2022)
Globalisation isn’t just about lax child labour laws lowering the price of t-shirts; it also has its downsides. Global markets have a tendency to replace local idiosyncrasy with the accessibly bland. Should, for instance, the makers of Sweden’s chocolate Plopp Bar ever branch out into English-speaking territories, they’d be forced to rename their product to something much less funny, and we’d all be the worse off for it.

Murderville, a US series based on BBC Three’s Murder in Successville, is worse off for just that reason. In the transatlantic translation of the semi-improvised detective comedy, a niche element has been dropped, and with it, much of the original’s charm. Here’s the premise: every episode, a celebrity guest is thrown amongst a regular cast of comedy actors to solve a murder alongside the lead detective. There’s a part-script for everybody but the celebrity,...
