Kinda Pregnant is a new romantic comedy featuring gross-out humor, and stars Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) as Lainy Newton, a teacher in New York City, and Will Forte (MacGruber) as Josh Lewis. The Netflix film, produced in part by Schumer and Adam Sandler, recently debuted and is currently sitting at number one on the Netflix movie chart in the United States ahead of Valentine's Day.
The film follows Lainy, who is in her 40s and wants to finally start building a family with her boyfriend, Dave (Damon Wayans Jr.). Unfortunately, he has other thoughts on his mind and asks about open relationships. Poor Lainy spirals, especially as her best friend and fellow teacher, Kate (Jillian Bell), announces she's pregnant.
One thing leads to another, and Lainy ends up trying on a fake pregnant belly and the next thing she knows, she has a new friend named Megan (Brianne Howey), who believes Lainy is pregnant,...

In “Kinda Pregnant,” Amy Schumer has her comic fury back, and it looks great on her. So does the prosthetic baby bump that her character, a needy high-school English teacher named Lainy Newton, wears for much of the movie — though on occasion, when she runs into someone she has fooled into thinking she’s pregnant, and the prosthetic isn’t around, she’ll swap in a kid’s birthday-party balloon or even a roast chicken. That makes the movie sound awfully broad, and “Kinda Pregnant” is an overlit middle-of-the-road Netflix comedy. But there’s a pinch of emotional reality to it.
If this were just an old-fashioned high-concept comedy, it would be all about coming up with some contrived reason for Lainy to fake pregnancy, only for her to discover, in the course of her charade, that it agrees with her. “Kinda Pregnant,” though, plays it closer to the bone.

Comedy filmmakers love a big lie. From Fargo to Tootsie to Overboard to Mrs. Doubtfire, the genre is packed with stories about a beleaguered protagonist coming up with an outlandish claim that quickly grows beyond their control. So Kinda Pregnant, out today on Netflix, is joining a long tradition: Lainy (Amy Schumer) is mistaken for a pregnant woman, decides to run with it, then makes a new friend and has to keep up the ruse. Schumer, who co-wrote the screenplay, is known for her joke-dense stand-up sets and for sexually frank movies like Trainwreck. The film has been released under Adam Sandler’s banner, Happy Madison, home of such past hits as, well, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. So when you hear that Sandler and Schumer have teamed up on a comedy about pregnancy, you might get a particular picture of what it’s going to be like. But here...

Amy Schumer did her comedy homework when it came to “Kinda Pregnant,” her latest Netflix original movie. The comedian and actress told Howard Stern that she cleared a joke about O.J. Simpson and his defense attorney Robert Kardashian with the latter’s very famous daughter, Kim Kardashian.
During one scene in the movie out Wednesday, Schumer’s Lainy reads a bedtime story to the children she’s babysitting from a fake pop culture magazine. “There was once a family of beautiful, beautiful princesses called the Kardashians,” Lainy says in the movie. “And they lived in a palace that their dad bought them by defending a murderer.”
“I called Kim Kardashian. I said, I want to make this joke,” Schumer shared on “The Howard Stern Show” last week. “I asked if she would mind, and she didn’t mind. How cool is she? She’s like, ‘Yeah, do the one about my dad defending a murderer.

The comedian plays a woman pretending to be pregnant in a dated and mostly unfunny attempt to bring back the broad studio comedy
Let me be clear: I am always rooting for Amy Schumer, though sometimes she makes it difficult. When she is good, she is great – and, for the most part, that was on Inside Amy Schumer, her zeitgeist-y Comedy Central sketch show that ran from 2013-2016. Schumer’s brand of comedy – bawdy, self-deprecating, pointing to overarching sexism while skewering certain types of white women – was both native to and critical of the pop feminist era, your oversharing best friend during the personal essay boom.
For better and, at least on the big screen, for worse, Schumer’s sensibility has remained there. Kinda Pregnant, her new film at Netflix, plays the hits Schumer is known for – shameless physical comedy, frank discussion of bodies, brash refusal to play good girl...

“Kinda Pregnant” is a Netflix comedy film that offers a twist on the romantic comedy genre. Directed by Tyler Spindel and written by Julie Paiva and Amy Schumer, the movie stars Schumer as Lainy, a woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when her plans to settle down and start a family fall apart.
The film’s premise revolves around Lainy’s unconventional decision to wear a fake baby bump out of jealousy for her best friend’s pregnancy. This seemingly harmless act of deception leads to a series of comedic situations and, surprisingly, a chance at love. As Lainy navigates the challenges of maintaining her fake pregnancy, she unexpectedly meets the man of her dreams, adding a layer of complexity to her already complicated situation.

The belly may be fake, but Kinda Pregnant’s depiction of the ups and downs of motherhood and the bounds of female friendship is more real than what’s usually portrayed on-screen. The new Happy Madison-produced comedy stars Amy Schumer as Lainy, a woman who, feeling left behind when her best friend since childhood becomes pregnant, straps herself with a fake bump of her own. One ball pit, substitute turkey belly, and ill-fated gender-reveal piñata later, Lainy might not have a cuddly newborn, but she’s gained a cadre of messy and loyal women — as well as an adorable Zamboni-driving love interest, played by the ever sweet-and-silly Will Forte (Bodkin).

"The most important relationship you're ever going to have is with yourself." Yep, entirely true. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a pregnancy comedy called Kinda Pregnant, from director Tyler Spindel, and a screenplay co-written by Amy Schumer and Julie Paiva. This is set for a streaming debut on Netflix starting in early February in just a few weeks. Jealous of her best friend's pregnancy, Lainy wears a fake baby bump...and accidentally meets the man of her dreams. Amy Schumer stars as Lainy, who puts on the faux bump. The cast also includes Jillian Bell, Will Forte, Damon Wayans Jr., Brianne Howey, Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore, Lizze Broadway, Urzila Carlson, and Francis Benhamou. This looks goofy and kooky and crass, playing up the "what if a woman faked a pregnancy for attention" concept into something that feels like made-for-tv comedy. Watch – and then forget about it right after you've watched.
