Jude Law Does His Best Captain Hook in Trailer for Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy: Watch
Image
“Wendy Moira Angela Darling,” Jude Law growls as Captain Hook in the trailer for Disney’s new movie Peter Pan and Wendy. “Where is Peter Pan?”

That’s all we see of Law in the trailer, but the clip still teases a complete transformation of the 50-year-old actor into the menacing old pirate. From there, we see the character face off against Wendy (Ever Anderson), Peter (Alexander Molony), and a full team of lost boys as he exacts revenge for the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grew Up’s past shenanigans.

Black-ish star Yara Shahidi, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker, Alan Tudyk, and Jim Gaffigan round out the cast. David Lowery (who previously directed the critically acclaimed 2016 Pete’s Dragon) directed and co-wrote Peter Pan and Wendy, drawing from both J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play and Disney’s 1953 animated film. It debuts on Disney+ on April 28th.

First Trailer for Disney’s ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Promises a Very David Lowery Fairy Tale (Video)
Jude Law, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Ever Anderson, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, and Alexander Molony in Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Another animated Disney classic is getting the live-action remake treatment and this latest adventure seems genuinely worth getting excited about.

“Peter Pan & Wendy,” which will debut on Disney+ on April 28, hails from co-writer/director David Lowery, the filmmaker behind “The Green Knight” and “The Old Man and the Gun,” and looks to interpolate both the 1953 Disney animated classic and the original J.M. Barrie source material. Watch the trailer above.

Originally announced in 2016, around the time Lowery was releasing his “Pete’s Dragon” remake theatrically, “Peter Pan & Wendy” is arguably the most exciting live-action adaptation of a Disney animated project in some time. The impressive visual sweep presented in the trailer (actual locations!) combined with the nifty modernization of some of the characters and settings, and the very committed cast (led by Jude Law as a snarling Captain Hook) make it seem like “Peter Pan & Wendy” will be a cut above,...

Peter Pan And Wendy Trailer: The Live-Action Take On An Animated Classic Hits Disney+ In April
Image
The first trailer for David Lowery's "Peter Pan and Wendy" is here, and it looks a hell of a lot more interesting than most live-action Disney remakes we've seen in recent years — not to mention most live-action adaptations of the J.M. Barrie classic.

Instead of going the star-studded, CGI-stuffed remake route that has been hit (see: "The Lion King") or miss (see: "Pinocchio") for Disney in recent years, the trailer for "Peter Pan and Wendy" spotlights a cast of young up-and-coming actors and visuals that look about as naturalistic as a story about a boy who can fly can be expected to. Sure, the fact that the first look at this movie doesn't take us to the uncanny valley might be a low bar, but "Peter Pan and Wendy" also has a great filmmaker going for it in "The Green Knight" and "A Ghost Story" director David Lowery.

David Lowery’s Peter Pan & Wendy Unveils First Trailer And April Release Date
Image
Though we've known that David Lowery – he of A Ghost Story, The Green Knight and, let's not forget previous Disney live-action adaptation Pete's Dragon – has been at work on another Mouse House in the shape of Peter Pan & Wendy for a while, it feels like we haven't heard much. Disney is changing that, starting the promotional campaign with a first teaser and poster. Take a look…

Lowery, working as usual with co-writer Toby Halbrooks, has adapted Jm Barrie's novel (and the 1953 Disney animation) for this new version, which from the looks of this, follows many of the familiar beats of the story, but with Lowery sprinkling his typical magic over it. Check out, for example, the Lost Boys (and girls) made up of authentically native cast members.

Jude Law, meanwhile, is taking on the villain role as Captain Hook, and he certainly looks the part.

With their well-used narrative,...

10 Popular Fan Fiction Couples That Became Canon
Image
Although showrunners and film creators used to have complete control over the stories they created, fan input is now a very real part of the creation process, as seen with the redesign of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Paramount delayed the film by three months to accommodate fans' comments, and the franchise has since released a sequel, with a third installment planned for 2024.

One of the most common ways for filmmakers and showrunners to give fans what they want is through making couples that were beloved by the fandom and popular in fanfiction canon. Particularly in genre shows, where intricate fandoms play such a big role, characters that the fans want together often get together, at least in the final episode, as a way to say thank you to the fans for their love and devotion.

Why Hugh Jackman's Pan Failed At The Box Office
Image
Joe Wright's 2015 film, "Pan," an anachronistic and colorful origin story for Peter Pan, sounded like a good idea on paper. Reimagined origin stories were very much in vogue then throughout popular culture, and the tale of how an immortal elven boy came to Neverland only to become rivals with a one-handed pirate is certainly ripe for exploration. Also, Wright was a hot commodity, having directed a Best Picture Oscar nominee ("Atonement"), a strange action film ("Hanna"), and a high-profile literary adaptation ("Anna Karenina"). Additionally, Wright managed to secure an impressive cast that included Rooney Mara, Cara Delevigne, and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard the Pirate. Levi Miller played Peter Pan, and Garrett Hedlund played an ally to Pan in the form of the young, sexy, two-handed James Hook, a ship's captain destined to live up to his name.

"Pan" was made for a hefty 150 million. On its opening weekend, it made a rather dinky 15 million.

Jude Law's Love Of Film Started On The Other Side Of The Screen
Image
It's that time of year again. The time when everyone gets into the cozy holiday spirit by watching some of the biggest, most classic seasonal movies around. Typically this includes at least one showing each of "A Christmas Story," "It's a Wonderful Life," and "Christmas Vacation," but for some of us, another popular film is on our list: director Nancy Meyers' cozy, feel-good flick, "The Holiday."

The movie is fantastic for many reasons, but we'd be lying if we said part of its charm isn't because Jude Law is absolutely fantastic in it as the slightly messy widower, Graham Simpkins. He dazzles us all with his sweet smile and fantastic portrayal of Mr. Napkin Head, but are we really that surprised? He's delighted us with all sorts of different characters over the years, playing everyone from the wealthy Dickie Greenleaf in "The Talented Mr. Ripley," to everyone's favorite mystery sidekick...

Over the course of 50 years, Steven Spielberg has directed 34 movies — here are all Steven Spielberg movies ranked from worst to best. Steven Spielberg movies have made the director become a cultural icon over the course of his career, with his films inspiring the next generation of filmmakers for decades. Steven Spielberg is one of the few directors who can shift effortlessly between crowd-pleasing blockbusters, and prestigious award-baiting fares. Furthermore, movies directed by Spielberg often manage to combine these two facets of Hollywood filmmaking, which is an even rarer feat. This ability to cater to both critics and general audiences comes down to his natural gifts as a storyteller; Spielberg imbues his movies with heart, which makes many of them enduring classics.

Winnie the Pooh Horror Movie Creator Developing Twisted Peter Pan Film
Image
With one childhood character already under his belt, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey creator Rhys Frake-Waterfield is now developing a twisted Peter Pan horror film. The upcoming horror movie offers a chilling new take on A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard's iconic children books about the eponymous talking bear and his woodland friends and their interactions with the young Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will see him and his friend Piglet seeking revenge on Christopher after he abandoned them as kids, leading to them becoming feral and killing Eeyore and their other friends.

Reception has been divisive for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey since its announcement, with some loving the bizarre approach to adapting the characters, while more family-driven audiences found it to be distasteful. In spite of this, the film recently got confirmed for a limited theatrical release, being slated for Valentine's Day weekend,...

The man behind Count Dooku's voice, Corey Burton, has been a voice actor for decades, providing voices you hear almost every day. From the tram operator at Disneyland and "Star Wars" characters like Count Dooku and Cad Bane, all the way to Captain Hook, Spike Witwicky and Shockwave from "Transformers," and even James Bond, Jr., Burton has shaped the audio landscape of Saturday morning cartoons and theme parks for decades. We were able to have a wide-ranging conversation with him about the beginnings of his career, his work as Count Dooku, and the legacy of "Star Wars."

Jason Bateman, Jude Law Team for Netflix Limited Series ‘Black Rabbit’
Jason Bateman in Ozark (2017)
Despite the conclusion of “Ozark,” Jason Bateman is not quite done at Netflix: The actor-director is co-developing a new limited series called “Black Rabbit” at the streamer with Jude Law, which the two of them will star in and executive produce.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the one-hour show is based on an original idea, with Oscar-nominated “King Richard” scribe Zach Baylin and Kate Susman writing the teleplay. The duo’s Youngblood Pictures production company, Bateman’s Aggregate Films and Law’s Riff Raff Entertainment are behind the endeavor.

As mentioned, the project — if greenlit — would mark Bateman’s return to the streaming platform following his starring turn in one of its preeminent and earliest originals, “Ozark.”

Every Fairy Tale In The School For Good & Evil
Image
Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil depicts several well-known fairy tales in its adaption of the book of the same name. The movie follows best friends Sophie and Agatha (Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso) after they are whisked away to study heroism and villainy at the legendary School for Good and its neighbor, the School for Evil. The girls are immediately placed in different schools and begin training to be like the characters from the stories they've read about.

The movie examines classic fairy tale tropes and critiques the binary idea of "good and evil." Of course, it would be impossible for The School for Good and Evil characters to make those points without making references to the fairy tales in question. Characters and artifacts from those stories are sprinkled into the plot, sometimes hidden in the details and sometimes spoken of outright. In fact, there are...

10 Most Likable Characters In The School For Good and Evil, Ranked
Image
After Netflix dropped The School For Good And Evil's premiere on the Oct. 19, the movie quickly became one of the top fantasy films on the platform. What's more, the property has the potential to evolve further into a proper fantasy series, as it's based on a successful and popular series of young adult novels.

The movie boasts a cast of memorable characters, each with unique powers befitting a story about fairy tales. However, while the cast is certainly diverse, some characters are far more likable than others.

Rafal

Rafal is an immortal sorcerer who founded the School For Evil. He was also the driving force behind Sophie's temporary heel-turn against Agatha and the school before his defeat.

Rafal is a very brutal antagonist, especially for a movie about fairy tales. His manipulation of Sophie nearly killed everyone in the School For Good and School For Evil. Needless to say, Rafal...

10 Movies Like The School For Good And Evil You Need To See
Image
Autumn typically signals the start of the back-to-school season, but in Paul Feig's latest film, this return contains more magic, monsters, and mystery than pens, pencils, and homework. With Netflix's "The School for Good and Evil," the filmmaker behind "Freaks and Geeks" and "Bridesmaids" tackles his biggest fantasy comedy since 2016's much-discussed "Ghostbusters" reboot as he adapts Soman Chainani's popular young adult novel series for the small screen.

In this colorful, sweeping epic, Feig transports us to a familiar world with a magical twist: The would-be heroes and villains of tomorrow are trained at a legendary school. Split into good and evil wings, this is where everyone who's anyone in this fictional land wants to be, especially pals Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wyle). The School for Good and Evil Review
Image
Plot: Best friends Sophie and Agatha are kidnapped and taken to the titular School for Good and Evil. After their fortunes are reversed, the duo try to figure out a way to return home. In doing so, their friendship is put to the test.

Review: Netflix tends to market the hell out of its feature film projects. When a movie drops on the streaming network with minimal exposure in the form of TV spots or trailers and in the middle of a week without advance screening for critics, it tends to bode poorly for the finished product. Debuting today is the epic fantasy The School for Good and Evil, based on the best-selling novel series of the same name. Directed by Paul Feig and featuring a massive cast of stars like Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, Laurence Fishburne, and more, The School for Good and Evil is...
