If there is one guarantee in life, it is that a new Tyler Perry movie will find its way into the daily charts of whichever streaming platform it has landed on, and it will be absolutely crucified by both critics and audiences in its reviews. So it has proven once again with the writer/director/actor’s latest offering, Duplicity.
Following such critical disasters as A Fall From Grace and A Madea Homecoming, the relentless procession of Perry-orchestrated movies and TV shows continues with Duplicity, which has debuted at the top of Prime Video’s U.S. chart and in the number two spot on the global chart. The film’s synopsis reads:

During the ending of Tyler Perry’s Duplicity, a disheartened Marley talks about how the story is never about one case, and merit should never be wiped away by a single duplicitous situation or person. In the film, she is a lawyer whose best friend and her husband are having a tough time getting along recently. She’s actually really close to Rodney, so she tells his wife, Fela, that she will help them get their spark back. Marley is with a man named Tony, who Fela introduced her to. They seem to be close, but Marley doesn’t seem to be comfortable with the topic of marriage. We find out much later that she’s been betrayed by her ex enough to leave her incapable of trusting anybody fully. Yet still she finds herself embroiled in this crazy drama that unfolds much later in Duplicity, but with that said,...

Tyler Perry's Duplicity is his latest spotlight of Black talent whose faces millennials will recall from throwback YA series like Sister, Sister (RonReaco Lee) and even The Vampire Diaries (Kat Graham). It looks and feels like it was shot in Georgia, with a by-the-numbers tale centered on racism, justice, betrayal and conspiracy. All the makings of another rinse-repeat of Perry mojo that might end up continuing his streak of underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes scores, due to the story's derivative nature and unfortunate lack hardhitting performances.
Nonetheless, this is the brilliantly minded Perry we're talking about, folks, so be prepared for at least a few plot twists and turns along the way that might keep you seated throughout this new straight-to-Prime Video entry until the final credits roll.

For Mary McCartney, directing the enthralling documentary If These Walls Could Sing on the history of London’s Abbey Road studio wasn’t just as a tip of the hat to her father Paul McCartney’s celebrated career, but also to her own life virturally growing up there, watching musical history being made. And although Dad participates as one of the interviewees, this is not just a story of The Beatles, but rather an eye- and ear-popping tale of a place where musical magic, on just about every level, was made, and continues to be made. The title tells it all as Mary McCartney’s splendid documentary, which premiered at Telluride last September and is now available on Disney+, covers the waterfront of Abbey Road’s 90 years.
