“The Premise Alone Is So Ghastly”: Mark Hamill Reveals Why Francis Lawrence’s Adaptation of ‘The Long Walk’ Called to Him [Exclusive]
Image
For cinema icon Mark Hamill, 2025 could easily be considered to be the year of Stephen King. This weekend, the Star Wars legend welcomes The Life of Chuck, his latest collaboration with filmmaker Mike Flanagan, based on King’s novella of the same name. In it, the actor who will go down as one of the greatest heroes of all time transforms himself into a bootlicking, depraved, absolute menace known only as the Major. Under his sadistic and tyrannical watch, a group of young men set forth in a contest to see who can walk the farthest. Should they stop or slow to less than three miles per hour, they’ll be executed on the spot.

Stephen King's 40-Year-Old Horror Anthology Movie Gets a Free Streaming Home

Two years after the movie adaptation of Stephen King’sCujo was released, the acclaimed author teamed up with the film's director, Lewis Teague, for the 1985 horror thriller Cat's Eye. The movie will be available to stream for free on Tubi from June 1.

Much like another King adaptation, the George A. Romero-directed Creepshow, Cat's Eye is based on three of the author's short stories, namely, Quitters Inc, The Ledge and General. The film plays out like an anthology and follows a cat as it makes its way to a smoker's clinic, a penthouse ledge, and a young girl's room. The movie currently holds a 68% critic score and a 54% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first story focuses on Dick Morrison (James Woods) as he tries to quit smoking and seeks the help of a service with ties to the mob that threatens his family if he decides to take up the habit again.

‘The Long Walk’ Trailer: Mark Hamill Stars in the Stephen King Thriller
Image
The Long Walk, the first novel Stephen King wrote (but not published), will finally make its way to the big screen on September 12, 2025. Lionsgate just released the first official trailer and it’s brutal, in keeping with the book and film’s subject matter.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Stephen King spoke about the era in which he wrote the book. It was written at the peak of the Vietnam War, but King explained that he didn’t set out to write a political allegory. “You write from your times, so certainly, that was in my mind. But I never thought about it consciously,” said King. “I was writing a kind of a brutal thing. It was hopeless, and just what you write when you’re 19 years old, man. You’re full of beans and you’re full of cynicism, and that’s the way it was.”

The film stars Cooper Hoffman,...

The Hunger Games Director's Stephen King Dystopian Thriller Drops Intense First Trailer
Image
The task is simple: walk or die. That's the tagline for the new Stephen King movie, The Long Walk, which has just released its first intense and chilling trailer.

The Long Walk is notable for being the first novel that King ever wrote, having begun it in the mid-1960s during his freshman year at the University of Maine. Ultimately, Carrie ended up being his first published novel, while The Long Walk was eventually released in 1979, as one of King's Richard Bachman books. Based on the trailer, the movie looks to be a pretty faithful adaptation of the dystopian horror novel, although with one interesting difference: Mark Hamill's the Major states that the teenage boys will need to maintain a speed above three miles per hour to avoid receiving a warning, one mile per hour less than the book. Check out the official trailer for The Long Walk below.

The Long Walk Trailer Brings Stephen King's Bleakest Story To The Big Screen
Image
After spending years (and years) in development hell, one of Stephen King's earliest and most brutal novels is finally coming to the big screen — and we have proof! Lionsgate has released the first trailer for "The Long Walk," which hits theaters this fall. While King isn't one to pull punches, this is one of his most unflinchingly brutal works, with young men walking to their deaths while the last one standing wins a prize in a post-apocalyptic, grim vision of the future. Check it out for yourself above.

"The Long Walk" is very much akin to King's "Hunger Games," albeit without any YA flair. This is nitty, gritty, and very much R-rated. It perhaps makes sense that Francis Lawrence, known best for his work on "The Hunger Games" movies, is in the director's chair for this one. Lionsgate isn't giving us much by way of the plot, with the...

6 Upcoming Stephen King Adaptations Arriving in 2025

If there’s one thing that’s as prolific as horror author Stephen King himself, it’s the world of Stephen King adaptations. It was recently announced, for starters, that the author’s killer dog classic Cujo is headed back to the screen with a new adaptation in the works from Netflix with Black Swan filmmaker Darren Aronofsky in talks to direct.

Mike Flanagan also has plans to tackle new adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon, and A24 is developing Stephen King’s Fairy Tale into a 10-episode series, to name just a handful of new movies and series on the way in 2026 and beyond.

But that doesn’t mean 2025 will take it easy on the King adaptations.

The year is packed with adaptations in film and series form. Here are six upcoming Stephen King adaptations arriving in 2025.

Lionsgate Sets Release Date for New Film Based on 1 of Stephen King's Most Terrifying Novels
Image
A fourth Stephen King film adaptation will hit theaters this year. Lionsgate just announced during their CinemaCon presentation that The Long Walk will be released on Sept. 12, 2025. A trailer for the King movie was also shared with those in attendance.

The Long Walk director Francis Lawrence was onstage during the presentation to tease the upcoming movie, which is based on the 1979 dystopian horror novel of the same name by King (published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman). "This is my favorite Stephen King novel, I read it 27 years ago," said Lawrence (via Deadline). "The rights got bought and then came back up. Roy Lee, my producer, brought it to me. For me, it was the conceit that was very interesting. You can imagine yourself in the shoes of these young men. World building –the heart of the movie for me is about these young men, their comraderies, the love that forms.

The Long Walk: Francis Lawrence is “super happy” with his Stephen King adaptation
Stephen King at an event for Un crime dans la tête (2004)
Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Now, Lawrence has confirmed to the folks at Collider that post-production work on the film is almost complete, and he’s “super happy” with it.

An adaptation of The Long Walk has been trudging through development hell for decades. At one point, the rights were in the hands of Frank Darabont, who made the King adaptations The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist. The upcoming TV series It: Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), was originally meant to be for the Max streaming service, but we recently learned that it will be airing on HBO as well. The show went into production in Port Hope, Ontario at the end of last year, aiming for a 2025 premiere, and wrapped in August after 237 shooting days. We’re still waiting to hear exactly when the nine episode first season is going to start airing – but casting director Rich Delia has already confirmed that the show’s kid characters are not safe… which makes sense, when you’re dealing with an antagonist that describes itself as “the eater of worlds, and of children.”

Halloween Kills star Judy Greer opened up about her experience filming Lionsgates upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Kings dystopian horror novel The Long Walk. This wont be the first time that Greer will be starring in a Stephen King movie, as she previously played Miss Desjardin in the 2013 adaptation of Carrie.

During a recent interview with Collider, Greer teased what the audiences can expect to see from The Long Walk movie, while sharing how exciting it was to be working with its young talented cast. "Its based on a novel Stephen King wrote in 1979. It was in response to the Vietnam War. Our movie kind of takes place again in sort of like a timeless place," she shared. There are so many great young actors in this movie.

Judy Greer Teases Her Upcoming Adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Long Walk': It's a "Really, Really Dark Story" [Exclusive]
Image
After decades of anticipation, Stephen Kings The Long Walk is finally making its way to the big screen, following a spell in development hell. Originally published in 1979 under Kings pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk has remained one of the authors most beloved pieces of writing, in which the story follows a brutal dystopian competition where 100 teenage boys are forced to walk until all but one of them have collapsed, while any attempts to slow down or catch your breath are met with consequences that one could certainly claim to be less than ideal. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games series) and features an ensemble cast including Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) and David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus) in leading roles, supported by Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, Roman Griffin Davis, Mark Hamill and Judy Greer.

The cast of The Running Man just keeps getting better, and Edgar Wright is adding yet another former Marvel villain to the mix: Lee Pace is joining fellow MCU vet Josh Brolin in Wright's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's classic dystopian thriller. Published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Running Man is set in a dystopian 2025 ruled by an ultra-wealthy minority, and if you think that sounds prescient as hell, just wait: the only way regular working-class folks can gain financial security is by participating in one of several reality competition shows,...
