Vishal Bharadwaj‘s Khufiya 2023, based on the book Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan, is an espionage thriller that is filled with nuances and constructed of hidden thoughts and secret desires. As the story of the film begins with a mission gone wrong in Bangladesh in 2004, it promises to be a gripping and suspenseful journey into the world of spies and intrigue. But with a runtime of two and a half hours, the events in the film propel with such momentum that the impetus the story demands never gets its due and leaves the entire viewing experience dissatisfied. The film does not lack proper development and resolution; rather, the lackluster flow of scenes hinders the flow and inhibits us from fully engaging with the story. The narrative focuses on the inevitable human tragedy at the heart of a power structure whose intentions are to safeguard the interests of its...

The skilled Bangladeshi actress, Azmeri Haque Badhon, despite having a short role in the movie, did justice to the character of Heena Rehman. The able direction of Vishal Bhardwaj has significantly transformed her character from script to screen. Heena works for Nsi in Bangladesh and wants to help the Indian R&aw agent, Krishna Mehra, attain success in her secret mission. Khufiya is a spy thriller, and with the progression of every event, it keeps the audience asking for something new. There are a lot of spy thrillers in Bollywood, such as Raazi, Madras Cafe , and others, but the several twists in Khufiya makes it stand out.

The amazing actress Tabu, just like in any of her other films, has nailed the character of Krishna Mehra (Km) in Khufiya. We have seen her flourish in other strong roles in films such as Drishyam, Andhadhun, and Haider, among others. Vishal Bhardwaj has been successful in being able to depict the character of Km in the film Khufiya, which is an adaptation of real-life incidents from the book ‘Escape to Nowhere’ by Amar Bhushan. Some sources suggest that the character of Tabu in Khufiya is even inspired by the real-life person, Amar Bhushan. In the book, there was only one character, Jeevan, who conducted a thorough investigation for the search for the mole, but the film has split the character into two parts for dramatic purposes. Being a part of the Indian R&aw, Km has been depicted as extremely patriotic, seeking to find out the mole in their...

Khufiya (Netflix)
Starring Tabu, Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Atul Kulkarni , Azmeri Haque Badhon
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj
Cutting through the acres of ambiguity and symbolisms that run through his work, Vishal Bhardwaj delivers his most coherent cogent and compelling film in years.
Khufiya is many things at the same time. It is on the topmost layer an espionage thriller about a spy at Raw selling confidential information to the neighbouring country. Ali Fazal plays this character with such straggling imprecision that I thought we would lose focus on the spy’s brazen antics (how did he get away with it for so long?!).
But no. Bhardwaj, fully in charge for once wastes no time in exploring hazy characters played by lazy actors. His focus is the ever-resplendent Tabu who has earlier created enduring magic for Vishal in Maqbool and Haider. In Khufiya, Tabu plays a number of roles, and I...

Hindi cinema has treated spy thrillers and espionage thrillers in a cliched manner. There are a handful of films in this genre that do a good job of presenting their story realistically. Raazi and Madras Café are prime examples of good storytelling with solid performances, but there are countless films that do not bother to remain grounded. They are given exaggerated treatment at the screenplay level. There tends to be more emphasis on action set pieces than actual storytelling. Khufiya comes somewhere in between the two kinds mentioned above. This Vishal Bhardwaj film is a Netflix India original that was released on October 5, 2023. Khufiya is based on the book “Escape to Nowhere” by Amar Bhushan, which is about a high-ranking Indian intelligence official who is caught spying for an enemy country.

Khufiya turned out to be a complicated spy thriller. Vishal Bhardwaj was bang on the money with the humor and the satirical parts of the movie, but the rest of the film had scope for improvement. Despite its issues, Khufiya presented some interesting characters that got embroiled in espionage of a larger magnitude. This movie was about a senior intelligence officer betraying his agency and country and fleeing to America. Several characters in the film are now at it to locate this man and bring him back to make him face the Indian judicial system.

What Was Operation Brutus?
Jeevanathan, portrayed by the veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi, was in support of the work Krishna Mehra does right from the beginning of the film. Krishna was a ruthless and shrewd R&aw analyst who, by the looks of it, has been a part of the Bangladesh desk for a very long time.

Netflix India has released some really good content this year, and the most prominent show from the streaming giant is Kohrra. Other than this Punjab based Netflix India Original; Class, Friday Night Plan, Choona, Guns & Gulaabs, and Jaane Jaan are some of the latest additions to the Netflix India lineup. Khufiya, directed by the famous Vishal Bharadwaj, is a new inclusion that, by the looks of it, is a spy thriller set in post-liberalization India. Vishal Bharadwaj also dropped a whodunnit web series Charlie Chopra and the Mystery of the Solang Valley, and we think the filmmaker is on a roll to be coming out with back-to-back work that will further diversify his filmography.

Director-composer Vishal Bharadwaj, who is awaiting the release of his spy film ‘Khufiya’, has worked with the renowned actress Tabu alongside actors Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi in the movie. Detailing Tabu’s role in the film, the director said it is something very different from anything Tabu has done before.
As much a spy film centered around espionage as it is based on character study, Tabu plays Krishna Mehra, an operative of India’s external Intelligence agency Research & Analysis Wing (Ra&w).
Grappling with her dual identity as both a spy and a lover, the actress plays the role of a conflicted woman as she is assigned to investigate a colleague who appears to have leaked information that led to the death of her girlfriend in Bangladesh.

Netflix’s latest spy thriller, Khufiya, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and headlined by Tabu alongside Wamiqa Gabbi and Ali Fazal is an intense combination of suspense and complexity. The strongest suit of this film are its layered, complex characters. This film features Tabu in the role of an independent and fierce R&aw agent, for whom, her work and her country take precedence to everything else.
Yet, beneath the layer of espionage, Tabu’s character reveals herself as not just a dedicated agent but also a loving mother and a committed partner, adding depth and nuance to her persona.
Speaking of her character, Tabu said, “I’ve had a long relationship with this film, I think I was one of the first ones to be cast. It is always a challenging yet beautiful experience to play a character with such depth. I would describe Krishna Mehra as a complex and dedicated woman.
