Loch Henry's Criticism Totally Misses The Black Mirror Episode's Point
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Black Mirror Season 6, Episode 2!While many viewers have appreciated Black Mirror season 6's episode 2, "Loch Henry," for its offbeat approach, others have criticized its two significant story elements — the latter seem to miss the episode's point. Unlike most other Black Mirror episodes that unfold in the future, season 6's Loch Henry stays closer to the present timeline, narrating the story of two aspiring documentary filmmakers, Pia and Davis, who travel to a quaint Scottish town. However, what begins as a pursuit to make a simple documentary film takes a violent turn when Davis' past connections with the town surface.

Black Mirror season 6's episode 2, "Loch Henry," primarily features two-story arcs. While one revolves around Pia and Davis' documentary-filming misadventures, the other criticizes the exploitative nature of true-crime documentaries. Both arcs are equally fascinating as one keeps audiences hooked with over-arching mysteries while the other...

Across the Spider-Verse Failed to Address an MCU Loose End
Image
The following contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, now playing in theaters.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse featured countless cameos from all sorts of Spider-Man media, including all three live-action incarnations, various animated projects, and a host of lesser-known comic characters who made their first jumps to the big screen. But one major nod to the Marvel Cinematic Universe stood out above the rest -- the reappearance of Donald Glover as Aaron Davis, better known as the Prowler in Spider-Man: Homecoming. No matter how brief, his role finally answered what became of him, as he was not acknowledged in any further MCU entries.

However, another major villain hinted at in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which Across the Spider-Verse failed to acknowledge -- Mac Gargan, known as the Scorpion. Played by Michael Mando, he pops up here and there throughout the film but gets a chance to shine in the post-credits scene,...

Korn Are (Finally) Partnering with Adidas on a Sneaker Collab: Report
Image
Korn provided Adidas with all sorts of free advertising decades ago. Now, the nu-metal pioneers are officially partnering with the sneaker brand with a collaboration set to drop this October.

News of the partnership was actually first tweeted out by KicksFinder back in February, but now Complex has obtained an internal Adidas document that includes images of two Korn-branded sneakers — the Campus 00s and the Supermodified — along with seven pieces of apparel.

Korn famously wore Adidas tracksuits in their early days, and even released a song called “A.D.I.D.A.S.” (in this case an acronym for “All Day I Dream About Sex”), yet they never officially collaborated with the sneaker company. In fact, they actually ended up inking a deal with Puma, with singer Jonathan Davis once telling Kerrang!, “We switched to Puma because they told us they’d put us in a commercial and give us...

How ‘And Just Like That’ Showrunner Approaches Cynthia Nixon And Kristin Davis About Nude Scenes After ’25 Years Of Trust With Them’
Image
After working with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis for over two decades, “And Just Like That” showrunner, Michael Patrick King, expands on how he conducts conversations about intimate scenes with the actresses, now that they’re in their 50s.

Both stars, who reprise their roles as Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York respectively in the “Sex and the City” reboot, are still willing to show a breast — something that’s rarely seen at their age in the industry — to which King breaks down how negotiations are made regarding their comfortability onscreen.

“I have basically 25 years of trust with them,” he noted, before telling Variety that there’s two types of nudity on “And Just Like That” — “romantic and comic.

TV Talk Podcast: Emmy Voting Coming Down To Wire As We Rate Contenders For Limited Series From ‘Dahmer’ To ‘Daisy’ To ‘Davis’ And More
Image
Editor’s note: The interviews conducted in this podcast were recorded at Deadline’s Contenders TV event, prior to the WGA’s strike starting on May 2.

With just a few days left for Emmy voters to get their ballots in, Deadline TV Critic Dominic Patten and Deadline Chief Film Critic and Awards Columnist Pete Hammond continue their TV Talk podcast discussing the tight race for Outstanding Limited Series as well as its lead acting races.

Always a major prestige area for the Emmys, this year’s Limited Series race is no different: Last year’s big winner in the category, The White Lotus, won 10 Emmys and clearly dominated. Despite appeals by that HBO juggernaut’s producers, the Television Academy ruled that Season 2 would have to move to the Outstanding Drama Series category, and that is largely because Jennifer Coolidge’s character from...

‘And Just Like That': Cynthia Nixon Blames Miranda’s ‘Alcohol Abuse’ on the Pandemic
Cynthia Nixon
Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) was full of surprises in the first season of “And Just Like That.” When she wasn’t dismissing her marriage with Steve (David Eigenberg), she was falling head-over-heels for Che (Sara Ramirez). But there is one messy aspect of Miranda’s life that she’s sorted out in Season 2: her alcohol dependency.

“I do think that it was partially a pandemic thing. I think a lot of us found ourselves drinking more than usual during the pandemic,” Nixon told TheWrap. “We have such a stereotype of what an alcoholic looks like — somebody who gets up in the morning and has a drink and who drinks all day. But there’s a lot of functional, not even necessarily alcoholism, but alcohol abuse. Miranda just got to the point where she was like, ‘Wow. I’m drunk ordering things on Amazon that I don’t even remember. And...

Spider-Verse 2 Reveals BTS Look at Donald Glover's Cameo
Image
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse co-writer Christopher Miller shared some behind-the-scenes photos of Donald Glover's surprise cameo as the Prowler / Aaron Davis, Miles Morales' villainous uncle.

"This was a fun day we had playing around with an old pal," Miller wrote on Twitter, where he shared the two pictures of Glover on set. Miller also gave a shoutout to costume designer Trayce Gigi Field, who worked with the writer in the past on his Apple TV+ series The Afterparty.

Glover's Across the Spider-Verse cameo came during Miles' introduction to the Spider-Society. As Miles is touring the group's headquarters, he passes through a hall full of "anomalies," Spider-People and their related villains who ended up in the wrong universes. Glover's Prowler is one of those anomalies and appears in several brief shots during the movie, which were filmed just two months before the film's release.

Empire State Building, N.Y. Landmarks Go Pink for ‘And Just Like That…’ Season 2, ‘Sex and the City’ Anniversary’

Why Superhero Genre Savviness Makes Charlie Cale a Better Sleuth on ‘Poker Face’
Image
Editor’s Note: This interview took place prior to the beginning of the Writers Guild of America strike on May 2.

Is Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) a superhero? She’s a human lie detector, that’s reaffirmed again and again over the course of “Poker Face.” The world of the Peacock series is certainly a heightened one, full of murderous actors, murderous racecar drivers, murderous Joseph Gordon-Levitts — all sorts. The show’s tone and, for lack of a better term, physics never stray as far from reality as “Wonder Woman” or “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but thinking about Charlie’s ability through the framework of sci-fi/fantasy genre conventions helped showrunners Lilla and Nora Zuckerman tap into what makes the character tick.

Miles Morales can sling webs all day, but that doesn’t help him solve the dilemma of asking out a cute girl or figuring out a new, more mature relationship with his parents.

‘And Just Like That’ stars address Kim Cattrall’s ‘Sex and the City’ return: ‘I’m hoping that people are happy’
Image
“And Just Like That” stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon have broken their silence about the surprising news that Kim Cattrall will appear as Samantha Jones in the “Sex and the City” sequel series.

“We had a conversation about it and we decided that it was right for the fans,” Davis, an executive producer of “And Just Like That” alongside Parker, Nixon, and showrunner Michael Patrick King, told Entertainment Weekly. “The fans miss Samantha. The fans love Samantha. Samantha’s a fantastic character. We get it.”

After appearing in two “Sex and the City” feature films, Cattrall turned down the opportunity to return for “Sex and the City 3,” in part, due to issues with the direction of the script and Samantha’s role. Shortly after, Cattrall and Parker engaged in a public falling out that resulted in Cattrall distancing herself from the franchise even further. The Samantha...

Kristin Davis Talks ‘Shame’ Surrounding Discussing Her Facial Fillers And Botox
Image
Kristin Davis has a complicated relationship with seeing herself at the start of “Sex and the City” 25 years ago. The 58-year-old “And Just Like That” star, who recently opened up about regretting her facial fillers, spoke with Et’s Nischelle Turner about her “ongoing” journey to find self love.

“I mostly just tried to have a positive talk with myself about how I don’t have to look like that,” Davis, who plays the ever-positive Charlotte York Goldenblatt, tells Et of her younger self. “I don’t have to look like how I used to look. When I look in the mirror, I try to remind myself not to see the deficits, you know, because that’s how we’re programmed to see.”

The mother of two instead focuses on her health and her kids.

Is Iain Adair A Real Person? Black Mirror: Loch Henry’s Serial Killer Explained
Image
Warning: The following contains Spoilers for Black Mirror season 6.

Black Mirror season 6, episode 2 "Loch Henry" features a realistic killer named Iain Adair, and it's fair to ask whether or not he's based on a real person. Although the character only briefly appears in the episode on the front page of a newspaper and in dramatic reenactments, he becomes the central figure in the mystery that unfolds throughout "Loch Henry". Davis and Pia, romantic partners who share a passion for filmmaking, visit their mother in Scotland with the intention of shooting a nature documentary about a local man who collects rare eggs.

After they link up with Stuart, Pia and Davis get drawn into the story of the infamous murders that took place in the small Scottish town decades before. Pia convinces Davis that they should drop their egg collector idea and decide to make a film about the murderer Iain Adair instead.

‘And Just Like That': Cynthia Nixon Says She Is ‘Deeply Disappointed’ That Kim Cattrall’s Cameo Was Leaked
Kim Cattrall at an event for Sex and the City: Le film (2008)
Though the revelation that Samantha (Kim Cattrall) would be returning for “And Just Like That” Season 2 excited many fans upon breaking last month, the HBO series’ cast and creator had mixed feelings about the news leak.

“My overwhelming thought at the moment is that I’m so deeply disappointed that someone leaked it to the press,” Cynthia Nixon told TheWrap. “It was going to be such a wonderful surprise that, as people were watching an episode, ‘Oh my god! There’s Samantha!’ You know?”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King echoed Nixon, noting that the “only upsetting thing” about the cameo is that the press learned of it. “I really wanted the audience to be sitting there and to see Carrie pick up her phone and see that it’s not a text, and then, ‘What?'” King said. “It would have been fantastic.”

Sex and the City Star Breaks Silence on Kim Cattrall's And Just Like That Cameo
Image
Sarah Jessica Parker broke her silence on the return of Kim Cattrall in the upcoming second season of the Sex and the City sequel series, And Just Like That.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Parker said, "We've been really thoughtful about the ways in which we've, you know, approached characters that hadn't been around, the ways we have invited actors back, and it's been, you know, really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic, but I think more than that, it's been a lot of joy."

Sarah Jessica Parker Breaks Silence on Kim Cattrall's And Just Like That Cameo
Image
After years of drama, Kim Cattrall shocked fans with the announcement that she would be reprising her role as Samantha from Sex and the City for the Max sequel show And Just Like That. In years past, Cattrall has been publicly open about her desire to move on from Sex and the City. She's also had a bit of a feud with former co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, which includes public criticism in interviews and social media posts, and that made it seem very unlikely Cattrall would be involved with And Just Like That in any way.

It has since been revealed that Cattrall returns as Samantha in the second season of And Just Like That, but she won't physically appear on the show. It's a vocal cameo with Samantha's voice heard over the phone, and this allowed Cattrall to record her dialogue remotely without reuniting with Parker and her other Sex and the City co-stars.

Carlos Santana
‘Carlos’ Review: Santana Frontman Serves Up an Above-Average Rock Doc
Carlos Santana
There is a reason for the Carlos Santana documentary, “Carlos,” to take its title not from the guitar legend’s last name and that of his eponymous band. The film, which received a gala world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, focuses more on Santana’s biographical details recounted previously in his 2014 memoir, “The Universal Tone,” than his illustrious career. Of course, music is inseparable from the life of a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer born into a musical family, but the documentary is more about wrestling with success, spirituality, addiction and childhood trauma from sexual abuse.

Filmmaker Rudy Valdez unfurls a chronological narrative, from Santana’s formative years in Tijuana, Mexico, to his triumphant 1999 “Supernatural” album, employing archives of photos, concert footage, talk-show appearances, home videos and a few newly conducted interviews, including a roundtable of Santana’s immediate family members. But amid the narrative progression Valdez has occasionally...

Black Mirror's 'Loch Henry' Ending, Explained
Image
The following contains spoilers for Black Mirror Season 6, Episode 2, "Loch Henry," now streaming on Netflix. This episode contains mention of suicide.

When it comes to Black Mirror, there are many unforgettable villains. Kenny from "Shut Up and Dance," and Joe from "White Christmas" are two notable examples. They remind audiences that people can indeed be unforgivable monsters, in addition to the show's overarching message about harmful uses of technology.

Black Mirror Season 6 leans into this trope again, especially with characters the viewers are expected to sympathize with at first. This unfolds in "Loch Henry," which centers on a string of abductions and murders in Scotland. However, as filmmakers Davis and Pia uncover the truth, harsh secrets are revealed that leave fans stunned once more over the concept of trust. It also showcases how crime does indeed pay for a select few.

Cynthia Nixon Recalls 'Walking Around on Eggshells' Working With Kim Cattrall
Image
Ahead of the premiere of the second season of And Just Like That on Max this month, it was revealed that Kim Cattrall will return for a special cameo. The news came as a shocker for Sex and the City fans, as the friction between Cattrall and her former co-stars is well-known. Cattrall's cameo is also a voiceover, with Samantha's voice only heard over the phone, and the actress was never physically on the set to reunite with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon.

In a new chat with Vanity Fair, Nixon addressed the situation involving Cattrall's surprise return. She revealed how she was aware that it was coming, as she read it in the script, but she hasn't yet seen any of the episodes. While she couldn't share anything else about the Samantha cameo, Nixon opened up about how it feels to be working on And Just Like That...

Black Mirror: True Crime Tourism and the Setting of Loch Henry
Image
The Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry” not only features one of the most shocking twists of season 6, it also has arguably one of the most beautiful and picturesque settings of the series thus far. Despite the haunting air that envelops the town near the titular loch, as Davis (Samuel Blenkin) shows Pia (Myha’la Herrold) around his former home, it’s easy to see why Loch Henry was once such a popular tourist hotspot.

Loch Henry and Davis’ hometown may be fictional, but according to actor Sam Blenkin during a press junket, the episode was shot at several real-life locations that he and the rest of the cast were “sort of blown away” by. Blenkin says “We shot about half an hour out of Glasgow, which I thought was amazing. So we were around Loch Lomond for a bit. And then we drove up the road to Arrochar and Inverarnan, which...

Hope Davis & Stephen Park On Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City & Fan Interactions
Image
Asteroid City is Wes Anderson’s 11th film, and is at once a departure for the auteur writer/director and a reliable entry into his filmography. 1950s small-town America is brought to life through the signature surrealist eye of its imaginer, and at once evokes the nuclear era and old Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner cartoons. The film itself is both touching and detached, heartwarming and heartbreaking; its wide-ranging story is ultimately hard to define but certainly best left largely unspoiled.

Faces new and familiar join Asteroid City’s cast of characters, as Anderson has enlisted frequent collaborators well as actors newer to “Wesworld”, as his bubble is apparently called. Two exciting actors on the newer side are Stephen Park (who did appear in The French Dispatch) and Hope Davis. Park was a regular on the iconic sketch series In Living Color in the early 1990s, and Davis...

1980s Detective Series Bergerac Was the Perfect Reference for Black Mirror’s “Loch Henry”
Image
Warning: contains major spoilers for Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry”.

A brushed cymbal, a laidback fretless bassline, jazz drums and some sleazy horns. Oh yeah, you think, crime. Then wait a minute, what’s that sound? An accordion?! Where are we – the mean streets of 1970s Chicago or the chirpy colour of a French 1960s Jacques Demy picture?

I’ll tell you where we are: Jersey.

Part of the Channel Islands between the UK and France, Jersey enjoys judicial independence and self-government, just like its most famous export (after tax avoidance): 1980s maverick detective Jim Bergerac.

Played by John Nettles between 1981 and 1991 on BBC One, Jim Bergerac was a police detective turned Pi, and the sheriff ’round Jersey’s picturesque parts. Handsome, troubled, popular with the ladies, and the driver of a signature burgundy Triumph Roadster, Bergerac used to be Mr Sunday Night. For a decade, just after Songs of Praise,...

Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis Say They Both Initially Auditioned for Carrie Role in ‘Sex and the City’
Image
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are recalling how their infamous Sex and the City characters came to be.

During the recent Satc 25th anniversary special of the And Just Like That… The Writers Room podcast with sequel creator Michael Patrick King, the trio opens up about the audition process before the show’s 1998 debut.

Davis, who ended up taking on the role of gallerist Charlotte York, revealed that Satc creator Darren Star initially asked her to read for Carrie Bradshaw, telling her at the time, “We really wanted Sarah Jessica…[but] we don’t know if Sarah’s going to do it, so will you read for Carrie?”

But Davis said in “the original script, Carrie was much more like Candice and she smoked and she swore…and I was like, I can’t possibly [play that character.] And I remember one line in the script it said, ‘Carrie has the...

‘Black Mirror’ Season 6: Did You Spot All The Easter Eggs?
Image
Warning: spoilers for season 6 of “Black Mirror”.

Upon “Black Mirror”‘s epic return after a four-year hiatus, fans have already spotted numerous Easter eggs from previous seasons in each of the five new episodes.

The mind-bending anthology series — that reveals humanity’s worst traits, greatest innovations, and more — released its sixth season today, and it’s full of new and cryptic surprises, whether in outer space or an alternate reality.

While filming the new season last September, series creator, Charlie Brooker, said he “always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point?”

Despite season 6’s more frightening approach, Brooker still managed to connect the “Black Mirror...

Exclusive: A Jetpack Joyride for Hope Davis and Stephen Park in Asteroid City
Image
Hope Davis and Stephen Park have an otherworldly experience in Wes Anderson's Asteroid City. The plot takes place in a remote 1955 desert town where teens, their parents, and the military are attending a Junior Stargazer competition at a meteor crater. But that's just one part of a very complex plot. The characters are actually actors performing the play on stage. There's also another perspective from a TV narrator (Bryan Cranston) who documents the play's production behind the scenes with the playwright (Edward Norton) and director (Adrien Brody). So Asteroid City is a film...within a film...within a film.

Davis and Park are the parents of geniuses. One kid invents a 'smores-tosium.' The other has an awesome jetpack that wasn't quite as fun for the actors. Park "passed out" from "being too high for too long." The jetpack "cut off the circulation to his legs." He woke up surrounded by the cast,...

‘Black Mirror’ Season 6: Meet the Cast of ‘Loch Henry,’ a Disturbing Twist on True Crime Documentaries
Black Mirror (2011)
It was only a matter of time before “Black Mirror” came for the streaming industry, and Season 6 takes a couple of swings directly at Netflix right out of the gate. First with the star-studded, hyper-meta episode “Joan Is Awful,” which introduces the Netflix clone Streamberry (and an arsenal of Easter eggs and references therein). But Episode 2, “Loch Henry,” quiets things down to tackle a much more specific streaming ill — the soulless, exploitative true crime industrial complex and the constant stream of true crime docs digging up traumas from the past.

“Loch Henry” follows an aspiring filmmaker back to his Scottish hometown, where he intends to make a documentary about eggs, only to get sucked into making a film about the horrific crime case that transformed his hometown from a former tourist destination into a desolate ghost town. In “Black Mirror” tradition, the ensemble is a healthy mix of familiar faces,...

Cynthia Nixon Auditioned for Carrie Bradshaw Role Before Becoming Miranda
Image
Before she was Miranda, Cynthia Nixon auditioned to play Carrie Bradshaw. Speaking on the And Just Like That… The Writers Room podcast Thursday, Nixon revealed that she tried to get the Sex and the City role made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker.

“They brought me in to audition for Carrie. I auditioned and they were like, ‘Yeah, not so much,’” Nixon said on the podcast. “And I said to myself — and I’m usually not so proactive — but I was like, at the time, it didn’t seem like there were four women,...

Cynthia Nixon Reveals She Auditioned to Play Carrie on ‘Sex and the City’ – and Bombed: ‘They Were Like, Yeah, Not So Much’
Cynthia Nixon
While it’s hard to imagine anyone but Cynthia Nixon playing Miranda and Sarah Jessica Parker playing Carrie on HBO’s classic comedy “Sex and the City,” Nixon revealed in a new podcast Thursday that she first auditioned to play the role of Carrie on the series — and bombed. Thankfully, producers asked her back to audition for the uptight but well-meaning lawyer Miranda, and just like that… the rest is history.

Sitting for a special “Sex and the City” 25th anniversary episode of “And Just Like That… The Writers Room” podcast — along with costars Parker and Kristin Davis — Emmy winner Nixon recalled how after bombing as Carrie, she pushed to be seen for another role.

Loch Henry Ending Explained: What Really Happened To Pia In Black Mirror's True Crime Satire
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Black Mirror Season 6, Episode 2!

This article contains mention of suicide and murder.

Black Mirror season 6's episode 2, "Loch Henry," brews an intriguing murder mystery drama that gradually morphs into social commentary - here's what its ending means. Inspired by The Twilight Zone, Netflix's Black Mirror is an anthology series that unfolds most of its episodes in a dystopian future. Using its dark futuristic setting as a narrative device, Black Mirror introduces a new story with each episode that focuses on humanity's relationship with technology and its potential consequences.

In its sixth installment, Black Mirror takes a meta-approach to depict how humans interact with streaming platforms, which blurs the lines between its fictional narratives and the real world's harsh realities. Its episode 2, "Loch Henry," treads a similar path by starting off as a story of two aspiring documentary filmmakers but turning into something far darker and thought-provoking.

‘Black Mirror’ Season 6: ‘Loch Henry’ Ending, Explained/Recap – Is Pia Dead? What Happens To Davis?
Image
Episode 2 of the new season of Black Mirror plays out almost like a found-footage horror in combination with a true crime documentary. It’s a little slow-paced, especially in comparison to episode 1, but still worth it. Definitely plays out a lot like Get Out, and we can’t help but make comparisons; still it’s a decent enough episode on its own though. Loch Henry takes us to a quaint town in Scotland as we meet film students who are excited to make their first documentary.

Spoilers Ahead

What Happens In Episode 2?

Davis is bringing Pia, his girlfriend from film school, to his hometown in Scotland for the first time. His mother Janet is very intrusive, and Davis asks her to stop, but she continues to be that way. Pia doesn’t seem to mind though as it would be normal for any parent to behave that way. They’re...

‘Abbott Elementary’ Star William Stanford Davis Looks Back on His Career (Video)

Abbott Elementary‘s janitor Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) on the ABC hit comedy may have been a surprising scene stealer for some, but the actor behind him has had quite the career leading up to the recognizable role. Davis sat down with TV Insider to look back on his enduring entertainment career, which began in music and radio before his impressive 100 (and counting) acting credits on the big and small screen. Kicking off the retrospective, the performer recalls his time opening for the O’Jays when he was 19. “My band [the Fabulous Paramount Review] opened for the O’Jays. I was 19 years old at Club Highlander in St. Louis and we turned it out,” he shares. The gig that really kickstarted his career however was a role on daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful. “That’s where it all started,” the actor recalls of his part of “a young janitor mopping floors.

Black Mirror Season 6 Episode 2 Review: Loch Henry
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for the Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry”

“Pretty wee thing you’ve captured.” So says Janet McArdle to her son about his new girlfriend on first meeting her. Janet, a walking cardigan with a tiny voice, turns out to know a thing or two about capture…

Played by Monica Dolan in her second Black Mirror role after season five’s “Smithereens”, Janet lives alone, surrounded by kitsch ornaments and home-recorded VHS tapes of 1980s cosy crime series Bergerac, in the remote Scottish town of Loch Henry. She’s been a widow since the death of her police officer husband Kenny years earlier. When her student filmmaker son Davis (Samuel Blenkin) and his partner Pia (Myha’la Herrold) visit from London, it’s clear how unexciting and provincial they find Janet and her lifestyle. If only they knew.

Over the course of “Loch Henry”, Davis and Pia find out exactly who Janet is,...

5 Movie Castings So Good They Survived Franchise Reboots
Image
It's not uncommon for popular franchises to get rebooted five, ten, or even twenty years after their original release, and typically by that time, the cast is completely reworked, however, there are some scenarios in which an actor is just too good to let go of. In that rare case, the actor returns to the franchise and reprises their role, no matter how long it's been since they originated it. This type of recasting is not only few and far between but is also incredibly special for both actors and audiences.

The following actors in this list managed to keep their roles in a popular film franchise, even after it was rebooted. These actors embodied their characters so well and gave such iconic performances that no one else could replace them. In the mind of Hollywood, the public eye, and audiences, these actors are essentially their characters. Even better, many...

Black Mirror Season 6 Cast: Who Aaron Paul, Annie Murphy, and More Are Playing
Image
This article contains spoilers for all Black Mirror season 6 castings but does not reveal episode endings or other big twists.

Four years and a global pandemic later, and the sci-fi anthology Black Mirror is finally returning to Netflix. According to Netflix, season 6 is set to be the “most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet” of the series. As Black Mirror has taken off in popularity, the show has become almost as well-known for its A-list cast as it has for its satirical takes on our world. With stars like Miley Cyrus, Jesse Plemons, Daniel Kaluuya, Bryce Dallas Howard, and so many more appearing in the series over the years, its no surprise that season 6 is just as stacked as the rest.

While there’s still a lot we don’t know about some of the characters featured in this season’s five episodes, here’s what we’ve uncovered so far...

Greatest Performances by Actors in Just One Scene
Image
Many movies feature scene-stealing performances by actors who make the most of limited screen time. But it’s the rare performer who can take over a film given just one scene. When a great actor gets a chance to chew on brilliant dialogue in a standout moment, all you can do is hold your breath and soak it in. If you’ve seen these films, you’ll definitely remember these performances.

Ned Beatty

When a single scene results in an Oscar nomination, you know the actor made an impression. Ned Beatty received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance as Arthur Jensen in 1976’s Network. Corporate chairman Jensen gives crusading anchorman Howard Beale (Peter Finch) a fiery dressing down in a dramatically-lit boardroom and Beatty has a field day with writer Paddy Chayefsky’s meaty dialogue.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis received her first Oscar nomination for a single scene in 2008’s Doubt.

“I Hate That Show”: Succession Actress Details Hilarious Experience With An Anti-Fan
Image
Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City is the 11th film by the inimitable writer/director. The story is set in a fictional American desert town in 1955, although there are layers to the story that make it one of Anderson’s biggest swings yet. With a cast of new and recurring collaborators, Anderson has once again delivered the same dry wit and signature aesthetic that has made him into something of a pop culture phenomenon.

An exciting new face—to the world of Wes Anderson, at least—is Hope Davis, who is well-known for her work in Succession as Sandi Furness. As she did in Succession, Davis makes quite an impression in Asteroid City, especially thanks to an unforgettable exchange that her character Sandy Borden has with Scarlett Johansson’s fictional actress Midge Campbell. When discussing one of Campbell’s films, Borden casually states “I don’t know why nobody else liked it.

Asteroid City’s Funniest Scene Wasn’t Always In The Movie
Image
11 films in, Asteroid City is one of Wes Anderson’s most unique creations yet. The film, ostensibly about a Junior Stargazer convention in an American desert town in 1955, boasts a layered approach to storytelling that feels ambitious in a new way, even from a filmmaker already known for his bold visual style and unique voice. Still, the film has plenty of Wes Anderson hallmarks, including a large cast of new and returning collaborators.

One collaborator new to the world of Wes Anderson is Hope Davis, who plays a character named Sandy Borden. Davis may not have the most screen time in Asteroid City, but still steals the show with a single line. As seen in the Asteroid City trailer, Davis’ Sandy has an exchange with Scarlett Johansson’s Midge Campbell about Campbell’s last film during which she says, “I don’t know why nobody else liked it.” Surprisingly, the...

Sex and the City: The Feud Between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, Explained
Image
In June 1998, a show that was to revolutionize the entire world hit television: Sex and the City. This production, created by Darren Star and based on the work of Candace Bushnell, follows four women from New York City who stick together as they go through the ups and downs of life, undergoing the most varied situations. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon were the stars chosen to portray the four women in a project that skyrocketed their careers, most notably Parker's, to stardom.

In no time, Sex and the City shattered the mold and became one of the audience's favorite shows, and remained so for six seasons, until the end of its run in 2004. The success of the show was so significant that, besides being the recipient of several awards, it kicked off a franchise that was topped off with two movies, a prequel TV...

"Hard To Imagine": Why A Fan-Favorite Outlander Sex Scene Won't Make Season 7 Of The Show
Image
Outlander executive producer Maril Davis explains why one steamy scene from the novels won't be included in the upcoming season 7 of the Starz series. Based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander first premiered in 2014, telling the story of World War II nurse Claire (Catríona Balfe) who goes back in time to 18th century Scotland. There, she meets and falls in love with Highland warrior Jamie (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in a growing rebellion.

As Outlander season 7 approaches, Davis now reveals to TVLine that a fan-favorite sex scene from the seventh book, An Echo In Bone, won't be featured in the upcoming batch of episodes. The scene in question takes place in a secluded garden and involves Claire and Jamie engaging in some self-pleasuring in front of each other. Check out Davis' explanation for the scene's absence below:

“Some of it was a location thing. You know, in the book,...
