Why ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ Will Not Return for Season 7?
Image
FBI: Most Wanted first hit screens in 2020 as the first spin-off of Dick Wolf’s hit series FBI. It was created by René Balcer and followed the story of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force as they tracked down America’s most dangerous criminals. Apart from the interesting storyline, the show also featured a stunning cast, including Julian McMahon, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, and Shantel VanSanten, among others.

Over six seasons, FBI: Most Wanted managed to build a loyal fanbase with its high-stakes action and emotional depth. So, because of this, fans were sure that a Season 7 would also be on the horizon.

However, things took a turn for the worse when CBS announced in March 2025 that the seventh season was canceled. So, why did the network cancel a well-performing show? Let’s dive into the real reasons behind its end.

FBI: Most Wanted Final Season Ending Explained: Only One Character Gets Closure
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for FBI: Most Wanted series finale.

The FBI: Most Wanted has wrapped up after six successful seasons with its final episode on May 20. While the episode (and the series as well) rounded off the story nicely, it gave closure to only one of its primary characters.

Though the rest of the characters weren’t stranded in the middle per se, the conclusion they got still bears the potential for transitioning to another season. Unfortunately, for the fans, the show ran its course, as CBS canceled it in 2025 despite its relative popularity.

As a procedural drama, FBI: Most Wanted followed the criminal cases of the Fugitive Task Force as the agents waged wars against armed criminals.

"Who Am I?": ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ Boss Explains Barnes' Surprising Series Finale Twist
Image
As FBI: Most Wanted prepared to say goodbye following an untimely cancellation, the show started crafting endings for some of its characters. A lot of focus was given on Barnes' (Roxy Sternberg) next pursuits in the final episodes of the season. It was strongly insinuated that she would leave the Fugitive Task Force for a desk job so that she could be close to her children. However, in the series finale, it was revealed that she would take over the Fugitive Task Force following Remy Scott's (Dylan McDermott) retirement. It was a surprising development, but it was done to keep the character consistent. "After her divorce, the question for Barnes in Season 6 was, who am I?" showrunner David Hudgins told TV Insider after the show's final episode. "In the end, she decided that she could never do a desk job; she is happiest when being a ‘cop’ and taking bad guys off the street.

FBI: Most Wanted and International get disappointing update after cancelation
Image
We have been hopeful. It was a pretty devastating blow to lose both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International at the same time. We suspected one of these shows were on the bubble, since CBS had yet to renew them, but we did not anticipate the network pulling the plug on both and then launching new FBI spinoffs in their place.

Still, there were flickers of hope. We had seen shows like Swat come back from the dead on CBS, and twice at that. We'd also seen shows like 9-1-1: Lone Star get the boot from one network, only to be picked up by another. Plus, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International were Wolf Entertainment titles that were connected to franchises on other networks. Maybe NBC can step in and keep one or both shows going?

Neither show is being shopped to networks "Execute" - When a hacker triggers a...

FBI: International Stars Share Heartfelt Farewells After Cancelation
Image
FBI: International's cast have reacted to the show's shocking cancellation. CBS announced earlier this month it was axing both current FBI spinoffs, International and Most Wanted.

The network's surprising cancellation of two of its most popular procedurals leaves only the original FBI series on the air for now. Franchise creator Dick Wolf is developing another potential spinoff titled FBI: CIA, about a joint FBI-cia Taskforce fighting terrorism.

Vinessa Vidotto and Eva-Jane Willis Respond to FBI: International's Cancelation

Vinessa Vidotto, who plays Special Agent Cameron Vo, responded to FBI: International's demise via Instagram by paying tribute to the four years she has spent in Hungary filming the action-drama.

"Never did I think this would be my life. I've lived in Hungary longer than LA, like what!?" she wrote. "If someone told me That, I wouldn't believe it. Booking this role was also my first time traveling to Europe. What does jetlag feel like?...

‘FBI: Most Wanted’ Episode 100 Is One of Show’s Best
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for FBI: Most Wanted Season 6 Episode 14 “100%.”] FBI: Most Wanted‘s first episode to air after news of its cancellation with its current sixth season is a memorable one — and the show’s 100th! — putting one of the Fugitive Task Force’s own in the middle of a hostage situation and teasing the possibility of a major loss. Hana (Keisha Castle-Hughes) accompanies Ethan (Michael Raymond-James), who promises he’s done with oxycodone, to the Va, and he’s filling out the paperwork for rehab when two vets take them and three other hostages. FBI, 9-1-1 and The Rookie all have the same problem in 2025 (here's why)
Image
Networks are handing out cancelations like hot cakes. NBC and CBS have pulled the plug on several of different shows over the last year. Something we've noticed is that a lot of these shows are actually spinoffs of shows that are still on the air.

The Rookie: Feds is no more, but The Rookie is fine. 9-1-1: Lone Star was cut off at the knees, even though 9-1-1 is thriving and crossing over with Doctor Odyssey. FBI is the latest and biggest example as two spinoffs, Most Wanted and International have been canceled by CBS.

There's an interesting tension that arises when these cancelations occur. Those involved with the flagship shows lament their spinoff's demise, and suggest that characters could be brought over from the spinoff and incorporated into their show, at least for a couple of episodes. It adds up on paper, and makes the sense...

FBI spinoff stars give heartfelt reactions to shocking cancelations
Image
We focus on the One Chicago franchise on this site. It's in the title, after all. But we acknowledge that One Chicago is parter of a larger, Dick Wolf-led ecosystem of shows. Law and Order and FBI may do their own thing for the most part, but these franchises are intertwined with One Chicago in a big way.

This intertwining is what makes the FBI cancelations such a surprise. The franchise had two of its spinoff titles yanked by CBS, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, on Tuesday. This means the flagship show is the only active title that is slated to return for more seasons. The cast and crew of these shows is similarly shocked.

Eva-Jane Willis, who plays Megan "Smitty" Garreson on FBI: International, issued a statement on the cancelations to Us Weekly. She admitted to being saddened by CBS' decision, especially given all the stories that had yet to be told.

Jon Voight and Keenen Ivory Wayans in Wanted: Recherché mort ou vif (1997)
FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International just got canceled by CBS.

Social media loves to joke about not getting fired on your day off, and that just happened with the CBS shows.

With no episodes airing on its regular Tuesday night (March 4), this news will hit fans even harder.

The good news is that the flagship show, FBI, received a three-year renewal last April.

FBI Season 8 will air next year, and FBI Season 9 will debut in the 2026-2027 broadcast season.

More FBI spin-offs are also in the works, with FBI: CIA in development, possibly for the next television season.

FBI: Most wanted gets canceled

FBI: Most Wanted ends with its current sixth season.

The first FBI spin-off, Most Wanted, showcased an elite team that chased fugitives.

Julian McMahon, Kellan Lutz, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Nathaniel Arcand starred on the show.

Dylan McDermott joined in Season 4 after McMahon left the hit drama.
