Aanon H Siddiqua is a Bangladeshi performing artist, writer and lawyer. She specializes in Bengali folk but her musical repertoire also includes traditional Bengali songs, Tagore songs and Nazrul Sangeet which remains instrumental in her work in theatre and dance. She is a former vocalist of Kishon Khan's Afro-Cuban Bengali jazz band "Lokkhi Terra" and has performed in festivals, radios and television internationally. She has collaborated with various performing artists from around the globe including veteran Pakistani Sufi rock band "The Mekaal Hasan Band", iconic Indian folk musician Arko Mukherjee. Aanon has also contributed in the musical journey of the acclaimed documentary "The Saints of Sins". Her song from the documentary was used in a campaign that won India's first Gold at Cannes Industry Craft Lions 2023. As a Dancer she is trained in Indian classical dance forms (Bharat Natyam & Kathhak) and has been performing for over two decades.
Life in Other Words is her first work in a short film, as an adult actor. She has previously appeared as a child artist in a television series on network TV in Bangladesh called "Bubuner Baba", written by Md Zafar Iqbal and directed by Morshedul Islam. Her work in theatre includes plays such as "Women of Shakespeare" and "Bonbibi" by London based production company, "Komola Collective and Culturepot Global". Aanon co-wrote her first screenplay, with director and award winning author, Leesa Gazi for the full length feature film 'Barir Naam Shahana',in which she also played the lead. This is her first appearance in a full length feature film. The film is currently touring festivals around the globe including upcoming festivals in Melbourne, China and Chicago. Aanon has authored her first original story with her long time collaborator Gazi this year and is in the process of co-developing its screenplay. She is simultaneously collaborating on originating the story of a dystopian Bangladesh in the format of a web-series while developing the treatment and screenplay for her original sci-fi thriller exploring human behavior focusing on classism and disparity.
Aanon has a PhD in music copyright law and practices as a legal counselor and an academic. She is currently authoring her first book on music copyright law pertaining to Bangladesh.
