Mihai Curtean is a writer and filmmaker born in Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania. He has a degree in journalism, has published four books of poetry and a novella, and has been a columnist for several Romanian newspapers. He has also worked as a graphic designer, a book editor, and a librarian. Growing up, Mihai Curtean has also studied painting and music, being involved in a few music projects. He started experimenting with filming in his late twenties and has collaborated with fellow writers and actors for video performances and short films. He produced and directed Pilotul (2014), his first noted short film, as an adaptation of sci-fi poems from the eponymous book by fellow Romanian poet Ovio Olaru. He then went on to produce and direct the five-episode web mini-series Poetry Is Not Dead (2015), in which Romanian writers perform their favourite excerpts from works by Mihai Eminescu, Romania's national poet. Dreamachine (2019), his latest short film, is a mystery drama that gives a feminine perspective to the legend of Doctor Faust, depicted as a modern woman's psychological struggle in search for self-knowledge. Apart from directing the film, Mihai Curtean also wrote the original script and composed the original music.

    • Quotes
To me, there are no dead languages, extinct civilizations, long-gone histories, and dead writers. To me, all these are alive, and I'm perfectly serious. If you don't live as if you were contemporary to all of it, then you'll fall into one fad or another, drowning yourself in there and being strictly a man of your time.
