Sex/Life will not return for a third season. Netflix has cancelled the drams series a month after the release of its second season on the streaming service.

Netflix has canceled Sex/Life after two seasons. The news isn’t all that surprising as series star Sarah Shahi recently signed on to star in ABC’s legal drama Judgement.

Inspired by B.B. Easton’s 44 Chapters About 4 Men, Sex/Life starred Sarah Shahi as Billie Connelly who, “exhausted from taking care of her two kids and feeling nostalgic for the free-spirited life she lived in New York with her best friend Sasha (Margaret Odette) before marrying loving and reliable Cooper (Mike Vogel), starts journaling and fantasizing about her exploits with an ex (Adam Demos).” While the first season of Sex/Life had 232.70 million hours of viewing time over a nearly four-week period, the second season only had 126.8 million hours in a similar time frame. That’s a drop of about 45%, so you can understand why Netflix canceled Sex/Life.

Netflix’s “Sex/Life” has been taken off life support. The erotic drama series will not return for a third season at the streamer, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed to IndieWire.

The news comes just over a month after the second season of the show debuted on March 2. The show, created by Stacy Rukeyser, premiered its first season in June 2021. A spokesperson for Netflix told IndieWire that the service is proud of the cast and crew’s work on the show, and that the second and now final season brought the show’s storyline to a natural ending.

Netflix has canceled its drama series Sex/Life after two seasons.

The decision comes five weeks after the show’s second season (consisting of six episodes, down from eight in season one) debuted — and three weeks after star Sarah Shahi signed on to star in Judgement, a legal drama in contention for next season at ABC.

Season two brought an ending of sorts to the story as Shahi’s Billie reunited with her ex, Brad (Adam Demos), and got married on a beach. Showrunner Stacy Rukeyser, however, told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t view the last episode as the end of the series.

“The episode was never intended to be a series finale, that’s for sure,” Rukeyser told THR a week after season two premiered. “I know there are always more stories to tell with these characters in the Sex/Life universe, and I hope we get the chance to tell those stories.

“Sex/Life” has been canceled at Netflix after two seasons, Variety has learned.

The second season of the drama series debuted on the streamer on March 2, while Season 1 debuted in June 2021.

The series was inspired by the book “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by B.B. Easton and hailed from creator Stacy Rukeyser. “Sex/Life” will premiere on Netflix on March 2. The second season follows the 2021 premiere with an eight-episode season.

Based on the book, “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by Bb Easton, “Sex/Life” was created by Stacy Rukeyser. The series follows as one woman, Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi), examines her identity, unveils her desires, and navigates a love triangle between her husband Cooper Connelly (Mike Vogel) and her former flame, Brad Simon (Adam Demos). The provocative first season of “Sex/Life” reached 67 million viewers within its first four weeks on Netflix.

Craig Bierko, Cleo Anthony, Darius Homayoun, Dylan Bruce, and Wallis Day have all landed recurring roles.

Bierko will play Mick, Anthony will play Kam, Homayoun will play Majid, Bruce will play Spencer, and Day is set to play Gigi.

In true Sex/Life fashion, character details are unavailable, meaning we'll have to wait until more details from the series drops for more clarity.

Additionally, Jonathan Sadowski and Li Jun Li have been confirmed to return in recurring roles.

Netflix has renewed Sex/Life for a second season. The streamer also has revealed that the first season of the steamy drama was watched by 67 million households in the first four weeks since its May 25 release. (Netflix’s metric counts households that have watched two or more minutes of a program.)

The 67 million is the third largest audience for an original Netflix series only behind the first seasons of Bridgerton and The Witcher though the streamer’s subscriber base is ever expanding, which is boosting viewership figures for newer shows.

Set to return for Season 2 are Sex/Life‘s series regulars, Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos and Margaret Odette. Production will take place once again in Toronto.

Mike Vogel is officially part of Sarah Shahi’s Sex/Life. The Brave actor will co-star opposite Shahi in Netflix’s upcoming dramedy, according to our sister site Deadline.

Based on B.B. Easton’s 44 Chapters About 4 Men, the “steamy, female-focused” Sex/Life stars Shahi as Billie Connelly, a suburban mother of two who goes in search of the sexy, single city girl she used to be a decade earlier.

Mike Vogel (The Brave) has been tapped as the male lead opposite Sarah Shahi in Netflix’s eight-episode dramedy series Sex/Life. Additionally, Adam Demos (UnReal) and Margaret Odette (Boogie) also have been cast in the project, which has set an all female directing team for the series. Patricia Rozema directs the first two episodes, followed by Jessika Borsiczky, Samira Radsi and Sheree Folkson.

Shahi’s recent TV credits include Showtime’s “City on a Hill” as well as “The Rookie,” “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” “Reverie,” and “Chicago Fire.” She is also known for her roles on shows like “Person of Interest,” “The L Word,” and “Alias.” She will next be seen in the indie film “Language Arts.

Netflix has ordered eight episodes of Sex/Life, a dramedy series from Stacy Rukeyser (UnReal) based on Bb Easton’s book 44 Chapters About 4 Men.

Sex/Life is described as a steamy, female-focused dramedy that profiles when life and libido collide.

Written by Rukeyser based on Easton’s book, Sex/Life is the story of a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her past which takes a deliciously steamy new look at female identity and desire.

Rukeyser also serves as showrunner and executive produces with Oscar-winning producer J. Miles Dale and Larry Robins.

Rukeyser joined Lifetime’s hit series UnReal at the beginning of the first season as co-executive producer, rising to executive producer in season two and showrunner for the final two seasons. She also served as co-executive producer on Twister and The Lying Game, among other credits.

Rukeyser will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series. J. Miles Dale and Larry Robins will also executive produce.

Rukeyser most recently served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the critically-acclaimed series “UnREAL.” The show aired its first three seasons on Lifetime before airing an abbreviated fourth season on Hulu last year. Rukeyser was with the show from Season 1 and took over as showrunner in Season 3. Her other TV credits include shows like “Twisted,” “The Lying Game,” “Greek,” “October Road,” and “One Tree Hill.

Taking the style of a memoir, Easton’s semi-fictionalized book recounts her past romances and attempts to manipulate her husband by keeping a “secret” journal for him to read. The book later spun off a series of fully fictional novels.
