Hot on the heels of the initial success of the film “Hellbound Village,” director Tran Huu Tan set out to continue the exploits of the community by offering a new entry set in that universe. Taking the same route to success by adapting the novel by writer Thao Trang, the move proved risky as a one-week delay in release nearly caused controversy with the film's release about to occur. “The Soul Reaper” is directed by Tran Huu Tan and produced by Hoang Quan. It is adapted from director-producer Thao Trang’s best-selling horror novel of the same title and is a prequel to “Lunar New Year in Hell Village” (Tet O Lang Dia Nguc). The story involves the happy occasion of a wedding turn darker after the arrival of a creepy stranger. The direction probes Vietnamese folklore and ancient customs, while the picture also involves Hoang Ha, Vo Dien Gia Huy (“Goodbye Mother”) and Huynh Thanh Truc (“Vietnamese Horror Story”).
