Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-ma) blasted Marco Rubio as well as “co-Presidents” Donald Trump and Elon Musk as she defended the haphazard response of Democratics at Trump’s address last week during a SXSW live taping of podcast On With Kara Swisher.
Musk is close to Trump and oversees the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.
Warren likes to talk and does it well but, rather ominously, there was one question she declined to answer.
“Are you yourself scared of personal retribution?” Swisher asked. “I mean, it’s all fun and games with your name and stuff like that, but you yourself, you just answered a question about troops attacking Americans. Are you yourself fearful of your safety?

Pixar's Brave(2012) was a departure for Pixar in many ways and felt much more like a true Disney film than the usual Pixar fare. It featured a fairy-tale-like setting that was more in line with Disney Princess movies, past and present, and it centered on a female protagonist. The film's production was plagued by massive changes, and even a director was bumped from the coveted seat despite being the writer. Amidst all the drama, Disney also disapproved of the movie's original title, forcing Pixar once again to make a major change. It's a small wonder the movie turned out as well as it did.
And while Brave is far from a perfect film, it's a sweeping adventure and heartwarming mother-daughter story not often depicted in Disney films.

Disney'sPocahontas (1995) was highly anticipated upon its premiere. It was released in the middle of the Disney Renaissance of the 1990s, when each new release from Disney was almost guaranteed to be a success. This was also roughly five years before the Disney Princess brand had been launched by the company. So, the idea of Disney Princesses was perceived somewhat differently than it is today. And Pocahontas did not perform up to Disney's own preset expectations.
Pocahontas was released on video and later DVD in various editions. For the 10th-anniversary edition DVD release, Disney included a deleted sequence between John Smith and Pocahontas. And this particular omission had the potential to remind audiences that Pocahontas' story could have played out very differently on-screen.

Disney has plenty of princesses, but Cinderella holds a special place in fans' hearts. The original animated film is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and most agree that it has aged gracefully. Despite her stepfamily's cruelty, audiences admire Cinderella's steadfastness and ability to stay kind even under such terrible circumstances. Many also find her a bit more relatable since she wasn't born into royalty. Interestingly, this is one of quite a few details that were changed from the original fairy tale.
Although Disney's Cinderella is primarily based on the 1697 French fairy tale by Charles Perrault, "Cendrillon ou la petite pantoufle de verre," this version was adapted from an Italian story by Giambattista Basile, "La gatta Cenerentola." The short story was published in 1634 as part of his collection, Pentamerone, and is considered the oldest literary version of the tale. Here are eight of the biggest differences between Disney's Cinderella and Basile's original fairy tale.

Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a definite game-changer. Despite naysayers claiming it was a financial risk that was doomed to fail, the animation studio's first feature-length film was a box office smash. It also kicked off Disney's long history of adapting classic fairy tales for the silver screen, particularly ones that center on princesses. Like many of the studio's subsequent films, the creative team behind Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made some notable changes to the source material.
Although there has been much speculation about its true origins, the Brothers Grimm short story, "Snow White," is considered the earliest version of the fairy tale as it is known today. It was first published in Grimms' Fairy Tales in 1812, and the brothers themselves made a few changes to the story in subsequent editions. Quick Links Official Disney Princesses Are Not Always Royalty Mirabel Could Be Considered a Type of Princess in Encanto Every Daughter in the Family Madrigal Is Disney Princess Material
I think most Disney fans, including myself, will remember the release of Encanto in 2021 largely due to its signature earworm: "We Don't Talk About Bruno." But it's not Bruno I'm here to talk about -- as interesting of a character as he is. Encanto actually presented a long list of leading ladies, maybe more than any Disney film to date, each with their own unique and engaging personalities. It's sort of surprising we didn't get at least one Disney Princess out of this largely female-led film. And this may be a major miss on Disney's part. After all, you don't need to be royalty to be considered an official Disney Princess.

From Tim Burton to Brad Bird, many iconic artists, animators, and directors first cut their teeth at Walt Disney Animation Studios. As a result, many of our modern animated masterpieces (with and without the Disney brand) come out with a certain magical flavor fans adore.
One of the newest projects to hit the big screen this summer comes from the legendary Tom Bancroft. Bancroft is an artist who has had his pen attached to some of the most iconic Disney characters on the studio's roster. However, his film, Light of the World (2025), has a familiar flavor that might make Disney nervous.

While Disney has created multiple princess characters, only 13 of them are deemed official Disney princesses. Though Disney has been making content for the screen since the 1920s, not all of its movies and shorts fall under the Disney Princess umbrella. The official lineup of Disney Princesses is part of a specific merchandise line for Disney and has specific events that character actors participate in at Disney Parks around the world. That lineup includes Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Moana, and Raya.
Raya is the most recent addition to the lineup, added to Disney Princess merchandise and Disney Park events in late 2022. There are many other characters in both Disney's animated and live-action content that don't meet Disney's criteria for their official line-up though. The best unofficial Disney Princesses aren't all royalty, but they do have great stories and are deserving of recognition as well.

It's a testament to Disney's branding that mainstream audiences don't necessarily know who directed or starred in some of their better-known movies. Although many have seen the studio's 1950 animated feature "Cinderella," most audiences wouldn't be able to tell you that Ilene Woods played the title character, or that Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi directed the film. Disney's "Aladdin" changed that with the casting of Robin Williams as the Genie. And the trend of hiring known screen celebrities, often not voice actors, to sell an animated feature to a broad audience went to a whole other level in the wake of DreamWorks' "Shrek." The advent of the internet also helped certain actresses become known among Disney fans. Nowadays, many adults know the names of the actresses who played characters like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, or Ariel the Mermaid.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: It’s Christmas at the Castle… and the Wood Axe is Jewish!
No one ever remembers the part of “Beauty and the Beast” where Belle nearly drowns because a Christmas tree falls into a lake, do they?
As a daughter of the ‘90s, Disney’s turn-of-the-century Princess Renaissance was my childhood. Bedsheets, pajamas, school supplies, toys, and anything else that furnished my little life was frequently themed to honor Jasmine, Ariel, Mulan, Pocahontas, or Belle: a squadron of girl-power role models that, all things considered, weren’t too shabby in retrospect.

Disney has been the standard for film and animation by continually telling stories that evolve and deeply impact audiences of all ages, exploring a multitude of themes and even serious, real-life issues. Whether it’s Snow White or Moana, Disney sets out to do the impossible: a female lead persevering and evolving in a magical and animated way. As the princesses' characters have evolved, so have the delivery media of 2D animation and live-action retellings of classics.

Disney princess movies follow a predictable formula with a focus on finding Prince Charming and overcoming evil villains. While there have been some exceptions, Disney needs to break away from their traditional princess tropes and focus on unique and empowering journeys for their female characters. Audiences want to see strong female leads who don't rely on their male counterparts and who succeed in their own right. Disney should embrace diversity and explore new narratives that resonate with modern audiences.
People love Disney princess movies. We've loved them for a hundred years now, and the company continues to churn out new ones every few years, with the latest being Wish. Now, there's nothing wrong with fun content that is often hailed as a bellwether for the tastes of young girls. However, they seem to be getting a bit lazy with their formula.

Mulan voice actor Ming-Na Wen believes that the Disney Princess label should remain because it represents traditional Disney. Disney has addressed the criticism of its princess movies seven times by creating films where the focus is not solely on finding romantic love. These movies, such as Pocahontas, Mulan, and Brave, have been successful at the box office and have proven that princess stories do not need to revolve around romantic relationships. The debate over whether Disney has a "princess problem" depends on individual perspectives and what each viewer values in a princess character's story.

Over the years, Disney has released many, many movies that turned into great classics. And in those movies, they featured characters of all sorts. However, it is safe to say that a large amount of Disney's popularity stems from one particular group of characters that stands out from the rest: princesses. Not only are they the company's most distinctive characters, but they are also the ones that sell the most merchandising. While each one of them has her own unique story and comes from a different background, there are many things they have in common, ranging from their love stories to the adorable animal sidekicks that always keep them company.
Fortunately, as the world has evolved, so have Disney princesses, who turned into the heroines of their own tales and no longer need to be saved by men. Characters like Merida and Moana, for instance, are an inspiration for girls and boys around the world.

James Cameron's Avatar borrows elements from various other films, exploring the concept of colonization in a futuristic setting, implying that history repeats itself. Avatar draws inspiration from films like Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas, FernGully, and A Man Called Horse, incorporating similar storylines and character dynamics. The film's plot, characters, and themes resemble those seen in movies such as Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Last Samurai, and Princess Mononoke, prompting accusations of unoriginality.
James Cameron's Avatar is still the top-grossing film of all time (so far)—which is ironic considering the plot and concept is a mix of elements from various other movies. Though most of these films explored instances of colonization from the past, Cameron's idea placed these same concepts in the future. It's a way of saying that history is always likely to repeat itself and considering Avatar's success, the famed director must have been on to something.

The enduring story of Disney's Pocahontas movie naturally raises a lot of questions regarding what happened to the Indigenous chief’s daughter in real life. While Disney may have popularized Pocahontas’ story, the animated film has been criticized in recent years for its inaccurate and romanticized interpretation of the Pocahontas story. There are many differences between Disney's Pocahontas and the historical story, but some of these differences are more harmful to the public's perception of Pocahontas than others.
Since all accounts of Pocahontas are written by others, there is little known about her own thoughts and feelings. The romance between John Smith and Pocahontas is not supported by any historical evidence. The daughter of Chief Powhatan was around 11 years old when the English arrived in Jamestown. According to John Smith’s accounts, he was brought in front of Powhatan to be executed, but Pocahontas threw herself in front of him.
