Warning: This article contains spoilers for Helluva Boss season 2, episode 11, "Mastermind."Season 2 of Helluva Boss has released relatively few episodes over more than two years, but the season finale or the events of season 3 could call back to a soft prophecy uttered in the season premiere. Loosely connected to the renewed Hazbin Hotel, with both shows being created by animator Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano, Helluva Boss follows a company of Imp assassins in Hell. Blitzø (Brandon Rogers) is the founder and CEO of I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals), and with the imps being the working class of Hell, the series delves into themes of unjust class structures.
I.M.P. was previously dependent on the help of demon prince Stolas (Bryce Pinkham), who has a complicated relationship with Blitzø. However, as of season 2, episode 11, "Mastermind," Stolas is no longer one of the most powerful and richest demons in Hell, having taken the...

Steve McQueen's latest movie, Blitz, is set against the backdrop of the bombing campaign conducted by the Luftwaffe against London from 1940 to 1941. Throughout the 8-month attack, bombs ripped through the British capital in a stream of persistent violence. Guiding viewers through this cinematic iteration of events is 10-year-old George (Elliott Heffernan), the biracial son of a single white mother, Rita (Saoirse Ronan), who works at a munitions factory that serves Britain's war effort against Nazi Germany. George, along with thousands of other children, is sent packing on a train bound for anywhere out of harm's way, but finds himself suddenly compelled to return to Rita. He then embarks on a picaresque journey through London amidst the din of destruction.
Suffice it to say, air raids bring latent fears and desires to the fore, and McQueen focuses Blitz on the innate flimsiness of pretense in the face of desperation. When...

“Welcome to Hollywood,” Taraji P. Henson said when asked why “The Color Purple” director Blitz Bazawule had to fight to cast her as Shug Avery in the Warner Bros. musical.
The Oscar-nominated actress’ recent viral comments about pay inequity, starting with a Gayle King interview on SiriusXM in which Henson broke down in tears, and later revealing that she and her “Color Purple” cast and crew were deprived of proper security detail and crafts services during filming, have overshadowed the actual work. Make no mistake: Henson is the real deal as the sexuality-oozing blues songstress Shug Avery in Bazawule’s Alice Walker adaptation, itself a film version of the beloved Broadway musical. Henson holds her own song-and-dance-wise alongside Fantasia Barrino, who stars as Celie, but had to reactivate a musicality in herself that she hadn’t tapped into since her early days as a background actor and student of drama at Howard University.

A big screen adaptation of a stage musical adaptation of one of the most written-about books in US literary history, Blitz Bazawule’s take on The Color Purple comes to the screen with more than the usual amount of baggage, so perhaps the most surprising thing about it is how lightly it plays. There are conscious choices at work behind this. Whilst it’s a story founded on suffering, if one digs just a little may back into history, so are the majority of African American stories, and a culture of resistance has grown up around that. It’s the celebration of that culture which is really at the core of this film. When its cast bursts into songs with roots in the gospel tradition, they are not praising God just for the sake of it, but expressing the profound gratitude and joy which comes from having survived against the odds.

Taraji P. Henson is no stranger to hustle. Throughout college, she spent most post-class evenings singing, dancing, and waiting tables on a D.C. cruise ship and her early mornings as a receptionist at The Pentagon to help cover her Howard University tuition. Henson still wears many hats as the owner of the haircare line Tph by Taraji, the founder of the mental wellness nonprofit Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, and most recently as the brazen Shug Avery in the blockbuster musical The Color Purple.

It’s not the first moment we meet the show-stealing Danielle Brooks as Sofia in Blitz Bazawule’s musical adaption of “The Color Purple,” but it might as well be, so clearly (so amusingly) does it capture her essence.
Picture this: We’re in Harpo’s (Corey Hawkins) newly built cabin, a home he’s endeavored mightily to make his own, when who should appear? His own fiancée, Sofia, as ebullient and self-assured as any character we meet in the Alice Walker adaptation, who doesn’t just enter her future house, but literally kicks down the door to make her way inside.
It’s Sofia in a nutshell: buoyant, confident, funny, a little crazy, and impossible to ignore. So it’s only fitting that Brooks, who brings Sofia so wonderfully to life in the film, can be thanked for its creation.

Danielle Brooks is getting major Oscar buzz for her work in the movie musical The Color Purple and she almost was able to count her daughter as a co-star!
The 34-year-old actress stars as Sofia in the movie, taking over the role that Oprah Winfrey played in the original film.
In a new interview, Danielle talked about how her four-year-old daughter Freeya was on set and ready to make a cameo, but something happened.

“We put her in hair and costume and everything. She was really excited. She gets to set, she meets Miss O, she’s all lovey-dovey with Fantasia. It was going great. All she was going to do (in the scene) was go into Fantasia’s arms. But the minute Blitz said, ‘Action,’ she was not having it. She was like, ‘Don’t touch me!’ It was naptime and it just didn’t work,...

Whoopi Goldberg's cameo appearance in the new musical version of 'The Color Purple' was kept top secret until the film's release. The 68-year-old actress made her big screen debut in the original 1985 movie - based on the novel by Alice Walker - and won an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and it's now been revealed she returned to make an appearance in Blitz Bazawule's new musical take on the story, but the director went to great lengths to keep the cameo quiet. He told Variety: "We had to be stealthy about her involvement from the beginning. “The Color Purple,” a vibrant adaptation of the book-turned-beloved-movie-turned-hit-Broadway-musical, dominated at the box office on Christmas Day.
The film has outperformed expectations with $18 million from 3,152 North American theaters. It’s the largest Christmas Day opening for a film since 2009, and the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time.
Those ticket sales were enough to lead the way on Monday ahead of two other newcomers, Neon’s racing drama “Ferrari” and director George Clooney’s inspirational sports story “The Boys in the Boat.” Warner Bros. impressively held the top three spots on domestic charts as “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and “Wonka” swam to second and third place, respectively.
Boosted by positive reviews and a glowing “A” CinemaScore, “The Color Purple” marks the first musical in some time that’s resonated at the box office. The film, backed by Warner Bros. and directed by Blitz Bazawule, collected more in a single...

While the heroes of G.I. Joe might be “Real American Heroes,” they traditionally don’t have any superheroes like Captain America on the team… or do they? One forgotten Joe just might be the team’s version of Cap, to the point where the two even share a similar origin story. And now that the G.I. Joe franchise is being rebooted within the new Energon Universe, it's time to bring this American icon back.
