Percy Jackson and the Olympians is sending its hero back to camp with all new outdoor activities.

Disney revealed snippets of what lies in store for Percy Jackson season 2 in a "Coming Soon" video marketing its streaming services, promoting both Disney+ and Hulu releases like Wonder Man, Chad Powers, and Alien: Earth. More season 2 details will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con later this month, where fans will be able to attend a Percy Jackson Hall H panel and an interactive experience outside the convention center.

Percy Jackson Star Hints at Higher Stakes in Season 2: ‘Even Chiron Gets in a Little Trouble’
Image
Danger always follows Percy Jackson and the Olympians' hero around, even in the comforts of Camp Half-Blood.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Chiron actor Glynn Turman briefly addressed the new drama Percy will face upon returning to the demigod campgrounds, including the arrival of mythogical figure Tantalus (Veep's Timothy Simons) as Camp Half-Blood's new activities director. Being a far less pleasant face in the role than Chiron, the actor teased how the series' status quo will be "shaken up in a good way. You have to remember the stakes are even higher now. Everybody is trying to form different alliances, even Chiron gets in a little trouble here and there. You'll see that in Season 2. It's quite a dynamic."

Much like his mythology backstory, Percy Jackson's Tantalus was punished in the Underworld for the crime of killing and feeding his son to Zeus as a meal, forever surrounded by food...

Riordan also serves as an executive producer and creator on the live-action TV adaptation of his bestselling novel series.

No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we're certainly off to a great start! All I can say for certain is that everyone involved is hoping and assuming that we will have the full five-season arc, but we'll just have to wait and see,” Riordan said.

According to Disney, Courtney B. Vance has joined the cast to play Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Vance takes over for Lance Reddick, who starred as Zeus in the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Reddick died at the age of 60 prior to the release of the first season of the series on Disney+. We didn't get to see much of Zeus until the season 1 finale, but Reddick was incredible as the God of the Sky and the guy calling the shots for the Gods in his home of Olympus. Reddick's presence and energy in those key scenes with Percy (Walker Scobell) and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) set the tone of what's to come for Zeus and the rest of the Gods as Percy Jackson and the Olympians continue.

Percy Jackson Season 2's Latest Casting All But Confirms It Will Break My Heart

I am braced for heartbreak after Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2's Thalia Grace casting. As a daughter of Zeus (Lance Reddick), and given her history with Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries), Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), and Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell), Thalia is poised to be a pivotal character in the series. I was glad that season 1 took time to briefly establish what happened to Thalia, informing both Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) and the audience that she sacrificed herself to save her friends and was transformed into a pine tree that now protects Camp Half-Blood.

The Sea of Monsters, which is what season 2 will adapt, ends with the Golden Fleece healing the poisoned tree, with this magic leading to Thalia being expelled from it. Zeus' daughter only appears at the end of the book, though. However, since Smart has already been confirmed to be playing Thalia in Percy Jackson season...

Disney+ confirmed via a press statement that Tamara Smart will play Thalia in Percy Jackson season 2, an adaptation of Rick Riordan's second Percy Jackson novel, The Sea of Monsters. 10 Best Percy Jackson Book Characters That Aren't In The Disney+ Show Yet

The show could include characters from spinoffs like The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians saw a fantastic first season with great main characters, but the story still has many more amazing people to introduce. In addition to there being four more books with new characters in Rick Riordan's flagship Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the bestselling author wrote some spinoffs set in the same world. This includes The Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo, both also focusing on Greek and Roman mythology, as well as the Norse mythology-inspired Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard books and the Egyptian series The Kane Chronicles.
