In “Meat,” Dimitris Nakos presents a gruesome look at familial breakdown and moral decay in the setting of a butcher shop (the irony is obvious). This first feature played at festivals like Toronto and Thessaloniki, invites viewers to witness the raw interaction of power and dependence simmering beneath the surface of everyday life. It is set against the backdrop of a small Greek village.

The movie starts with a real slaughterhouse, immersing us in a world where life and death dance together in a horrifying dance. This isn’t just a story about a butcher; it’s a modern Greek tragedy in which societal standards and family responsibilities have replaced the gods. Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer for Miguel Ángel Jiménez’s “Una Ventana al Mar” (Window to the Sea), a romantic drama starring Emma Suárez which will have its world premiere at the EiTB Gala held during the San Sebastian Intl. Film Festival.

Heretic Outreach is handling world sales. The film will have its market premiere in Toronto. Filmax will distribute the film in Spain.

The film follows a middle-aged Spanish woman (Suárez) who, faced with life-changing news, decides to take a trip to Greece with her closest girlfriends, against the advice of her doctors and son.

A spontaneous decision takes her to the island of Nisyros, a tiny slice of paradise that immediately feels like home. There she meets a Greek man, Stefanos (Akilas Karazisis), and finds herself falling in love against all odds. What began as a brief escape from reality soon turns into an...

Two-time Goya-winning actress Emma Suarez, best known internationally for Julieta, has signed to star in Volcano (Sumendia) for Spanish writer-director Miguel Ángel Jiménez.

Volcano is co-produced by Giorgos Karnavas and Konstantinos Kontovrakis’ Athens-based production company Heretic. The project will access the new Greek cash rebate system that was launched in April.

The film is about a woman who receives life-changing news and takes a trip with her closest friends to the Greek islands. Greek actor Akilas Karazisis and Gaizka Ugarte also star.
