Q&A with The Devil’S Dolls Director Padraig Reynolds
A serial killer's violent impulses live on through voodoo in The Devil's Dolls, coming out in select theaters and on VOD and digital platforms on September 16th, and we caught up with director Padraig Reynolds in our latest Q&A feature to discuss the making of his southern-set horror movie.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Padraig. What attracted you to the story of The Devil’s Dolls?

Padraig Reynolds: I’m a big fan of voodoo films such as Serpent and the Rainbow and Venom. So when I read The Devil’s Dolls, I thought it would be a great opportunity to do something fresh and exciting in a genre that not too many movies are made about.

Christopher Wiehl co-wrote, produced, and stars in the film. What was it like working with Wiehl, who seemed very invested in the character of Matt?...

Frightfest 2015: ‘Worry Dolls’ Review
Stars: Christopher Wiehl, Kym Jackson, Tina Lifford, Samantha Smith, Yohance Myles, Kennedy Brice, Brea Grant, R. Brandon Johnson | Written by Danny Kolker, Christopher Wiehl | Directed by Padraig Reynolds

It’s been quite some time since I saw Padraig Reynolds’ debut feature Rites of Spring back at Glasgow Frightfest 2012 and since then Reynolds has been pretty silent on the directing front. However, being a huge fan of that film there was no way I was passing up the chance to see yet another slice of Reynolds’ particular style of Southern Gothic.

Much like Rites of Spring mixed genres, taking in crime drama and traditional stalk and slash horror, by way of Southern horror like Jeepers Creepers; Worry Dolls mixes old-school voodoo with the tropes of classic 80s slashers (yes, this is yet Another Frightfest movie to utilise the sterotypes of the slasher genre) in a tale that – like Last Girl Standing...

'72 Hours' Brandon Johnson: 'My office is a helicopter'
Zap2it: How has it been for you to be on the go and on location with the "72 Hours" contestants?

Brandon Johnson: It's hard to truly articulate this whole experience. I could say, "This is what one day looked like," but I think every person involved in this had their own authentic experience. I've had moments where I've looked down thousands of feet from the edge of a cliff, overlooking the most incredible vista you'd ever imagine. The things I get to see through this, there's no price tag for them.

My office is a helicopter. I'm landing in destinations most humans will never set foot in unless they're on a show like this. There's a lot of gratitude for me in this, and a lot of humility, too. You're right in the thick of nature, and it's very primal at times. Many things that are deep in our DNA start to kick in.

'72 Hours' Host Brandon Johnson: 'Mother Nature Doesn't Discriminate'
R. Brandon Johnson attends "Switch Up" After party at Troublemaker Studios for SXSW 2024.
On every episode of TNT's new adventure series, "72 Hours," three groups of three people are dropped into the unknown with one goal: to survive long enough to find a suitcase with $100,000. During those trying times, show host Brandon Johnson is their only connection to the civilized world. "I may serve as like a lifeline for them," Johnson told TheWrap. Johnson, who had previously starred on Disney Channel's "Shake It Up," hosted the series through its 73-day shoot that ended last December. '72 Hours': Brandon Johnson takes on Jeff Probst and Phil Keoghan
What would you be willing to endure over three days to pocket $100,000?

The question has many potential answers, which "72 Hours" confirms. Premiering Thursday, June 6, the TNT competition show from producers of ABC's "Extreme Makeover" franchise places three teams of strangers into a challenging environment in each episode. With only one bottle of water and a Gps tracking device, each squad must cross the forbidding terrain to find a briefcase that contains the aforementioned amount of cash.

Host Brandon Johnson -- who has acted on shows from "One Life to Live" (during its ABC era) to Disney Channel's "Shake It Up!" -- has a definite sense of what the "72 Hours" players went through. He tells Zap2it the show's season was "a straight 73-day shoot through various countries, from Hawaii and the Southern Rockies in the United States to Fiji, New Zealand and Tasmania. We bopped all over the world."

Johnson's...

'72 Hours' Host Brandon Johnson Previews TNT's New Reality Competition
R. Brandon Johnson attends "Switch Up" After party at Troublemaker Studios for SXSW 2024.
Time is short and the stakes are high in TNT's newest reality series, 72 Hours. Brandon Johnson, former actor on Disney's Shake It Up and host of Hgtv's My Yard Goes Disney, tells The Hollywood Reporter that 72 Hours is an authentic show "in a day and age where people are saturated with scripted reality." Contestants are followed through a three-day journey through the wilderness as they battle against physical, mental and emotional tests. Nine strangers are catapulted into the wild "with nothing more than the shirts on their back and a bottle of water" to embark on

Malevolence (2003)
Exclusive Interview: Stevan Mena On The 'Malevolence' Trilogy
Malevolence (2003)
For myself personally, I've been a huge fan of filmmaker Stevan Mena ever since I first caught a theatrical showing of his debut feature 'Malevolence' back in 2004. You have to keep in mind what was going on in horror at the time. The two ficks I'd seen prior to 'Malevolence' were 'Aliens Vs Predator' and 'The Exorcist: The Beginning,' so I had pretty much given up on the genre at that point. But thankfully, Mena's brutal and relentless "slasher" perfectly captured the essence of the movies I grew up loving; so much so that I later had to reconfirm it was a new movie and not something from the 80's only at that time finally getting a release. But 'Malevolence' was always intended to be the middle part of a more epic trilogy. 'Bereavement' came out in 2010 and told the prequel story of how Martin Bristol became the killer we see in 'Malevolence.

Twelve Hot Shows to Keep You Cool This Summer
Where once summer TV was made up almost exclusively of stale reruns – and perhaps a couple of new second-rate game shows that no one really cared about – there’s been a paradigm shift over the last decade or so in which the once-unadventurous cable networks started indulging in this little thing called original programming.

What’s more, many of them are now choosing to debut a slew of their original series during the warmer months to avoid competition from the “Big Four”, which can only equal happiness for a legion of loyal couch potatoes. I mean hell, who needs the outdoors anyway, right?

Here are twelve new and returning shows to keep you cool this summer. Before all you True Blood and Torchwood fanatics go bonkers on me, this list is highlighting shows AfterElton.com doesn’t already cover extensively. Hey, it might be summer, but you can still broaden your horizons some!

Is 'Shake It Up' the Next 'Hannah Montana'?
We were invited to a press event for Disney Channel's "Shake It Up." This show is poised to be the next tween sensation.

Here's what the stars of the show had to say when asked questions by our kid reporters, Holden (age 9) and Seena (age 6):

Zendaya - Raquel "Rocky" Blue: "The highlight of my life so far was the first day on set! I was like, 'This is real. This is not a dream!' I grew up watching 'That's So Raven' and 'Lizzie McGuire' on the DIsney Channel, and now I was going to be on Disney Channel, too!"

Adam Irigoyen - Deuce Martinez: "I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for my parents. I give them all the credit. They moved out here two years ago for me to pursue my dreams."
