Netflix Has an Unfortunate Update for One Piece Anime Fans
Image
One Piece fans are going to have to prepare for a somewhat disappointing March, as Netflix will be removing another of its One Piece anime titles from its catalog.

Via What's on Netflix, One Piece Film: Strong World will be removed from the service on March 15, unfortunately leaving U.S. viewers without easy access to watch the movie. Strong World is a notable entry to the franchise for several reasons, including being one of the few One Piece films that had Eiichiro Oda himself as the writer. As with many of the franchise's movies, Strong World was well-received, opening with over one billion yen over its domestic opening weekend. It also opened on 188 screens and sold out 103 of those showings throughout the weekend. This led to the film's per-screen average being the record for a nationwide release in Japan at the time, with an average of 5.52 million yen.

One Piece Season 2 Release Date Window Gets an Update From Sanji Actor
Image
One Piece star Taz Skyler teased the potential release date window for the highly-anticipated second installment of the hit Netflix series. This comes after the live-action adaptation had just recently wrapped up its Season 2 production last December, after seven months of filming in South Africa.

During a recent interview with The Direct, Skyler was asked about the ongoing online speculations regarding the release date window for One Piece Season 2, after Netflix excluded the show’s from its 2025 slate. "I've heard multiple versions myself, so I'd probably be getting myself into trouble if I did say. But at the same time, I can quite honestly say I don't think it's clear yet, but I could again. I don't know if I'm gonna get into trouble, but I could probably say with most confidence, it's not further than that [2026] window." If the streamer is indeed targeting a 2026 release date for the show’s return,...

The Best and Worst Anime Fathers
Image
Anime has some great fathers, but it also has some terrible ones. Fathers are some of the most important figures in a child's life. A dad's impact affects his child for their whole life. Children often grow to either respect or resent their fathers.

From Whitebeard to Grisha Yeager, anime has a broad spectrum of fathers. Fathers and their impact on their sons varies from case to case. However, it cannot be argued how important fathers are. Each of these dads, good or bad, plays a pivotal role in their child's life.

Best: Whitebeard is a Beloved Adoptive Father to His Whole Crew First Appeared in One Piece, Episode 151, "100 Million Man! World's Greatest Power and Pirate Black Beard!"

Edward Newgate from One Piece, better known as Whitebeard, is the best example of an adoptive father in anime. Whitebeard is also one of the Yonko and captain of a fearsome group of pirates.

One Piece's Eiichiro Oda Is Inspired by Tarantino Movies Like Pulp Fiction
Image
One Piece's Eiichiro Oda takes influence from popular Western titles, such as Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, among other classic films.

One of Oda's earliest interviews with Comickers in 1998 delved into his influences, many of which included Western movies. "I love movies. I love Western movies, and there's a movie called 'Young Guns,' [directed by Christopher Cain] and that's already at the top of my list. It's so cool. I think I was in high school when I first saw it. But that's why I drew 'Wanted!' right away. The other inspirations were Tarantino's. I love 'Pulp Fiction.' Also, walking around in the suits from ‘Reservoir Dogs’—that’s super cool too, right?"

Film Review: 'Any Day Now'
★★★★☆ Travis Fine's poignant second feature about a gay couple's attempts to adopt a Down's syndrome child is a well-crafted drama with a powerful message and stellar performances from Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt. Based on true events, scripted by George Arthur Bloom and then reworked by Fine, Any Day Now (2012) deals with weighty and emotive issues reminiscent of 2009 biopic Milk; both films interweave the political and personal to great effect, and use humour to leaven the shade. Set in 1970s La, Rudy (Cumming) is a big-voiced drag queen who struggles to make ends meet from his cabaret act.

When he meets the closeted Paul (Dillahunt), who works in the district attorney's office, their connection is immediate. Meanwhile, Marco (Isaac Leyva), a teenager with special needs, lives with his drug-addicted mother in the same rundown apartment block as Rudy. When she winds up in jail, Rudy decides to take Marco under his wing.
