‘Blue Beetle’s Xolo Maridueña & ‘Matlock’s Leah Lewis To Topline Indie Romance ‘Dog Years’ From Filmmaker Mary Bronaugh

Exclusive: Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle) and Leah Lewis (Matlock) have wrapped production on Dog Years, an indie romance marking the feature debut of writer-director Mary Bronaugh.

Shot just outside Chicago, the film follows two former best friends who unexpectedly meet up in their hometown seven years after admitting they were in love. Reunited for one exhilarating night, they break into their old high school and question whether they would upend their lives to be together now.

“Dog Years is a very personal story about how the people we love shape us, even if they can’t stay in our lives,” Bronaugh said. “Working with Leah and Xolo has been a total joy. Every day, I was humbled by their passion and dedication to the story and team. I’m so excited for people to see the depth, brilliance, and humor they brought to these characters.”

‘School Spirits’ Sets Season 2 Premiere Date (TV News Roundup)

The premiere date for “School Spirits” Season 2 is set for Thursday, Jan. 30, with the first three episodes releasing on Paramount+.

The new season of “School Spirits” kicks off after the first season’s cliffhanger, following Maddie Nears (Peyton List), who is still stuck in the afterlife, as she tries to win over Simon (Kristian Ventura) to help search for her missing body. The cast also includes Spencer MacPherson, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, Josh Zuckerman and Milo Manheim.

New episodes of the eight-episode season will drop weekly on Thursdays. Awesomeness TV produces with creators Nate Trinrud and Megan Trinrud as executive producers.

Searching for a list of the best up and coming screenwriters? Coverfly has curated a list of lists that brings together a raft of rising writers.

The company, which is a platform of unproduced IP and writing programs, has put together the Best Unrepped Writers, Best Unproduced Projects and The Next List as well as aggregating writing network fellowships such as NBC Launch + Sony Diverse Writers Program, writing competitions like The Academy Nicholl Fellowship and Final Draft’s Big Break, and other annual lists such as Village Roadshow’s Blood List.

Previous iterations of these lists have featured writers that have gone on to write for series such as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Beef.

The Next List is compiled by nominations from the thousands of managers, agents, and executives on The Coverfly and Tracking Board platforms. It features 35 selections including 31 individuals and four writing teams from film, television, and playwriting backgrounds.

Alongside the big reveal of the Creepshow teaser, there was plenty of other goodies for fans watching the 2023 edition of The Indie Horror Game Showcase. DreadXP and several indie publishers had plenty of reveal trailers, updates and even accolades for current games. Here’s a sampling of what went on during the event. Fresh from the release of El Paso, Elsewhere last week, Strange Scaffold released an accolades trailer showing off select quotes and plenty of amazing scores for the neo-noir horror shooter. And yes, in case you’re wondering, one of those scores is courtesy of Bd’s Aaron Boehm, who wrote up a glowing review of the game. El Paso, Elsewhere is out now on PC via Steam, Xbox One and the Xbox Series.
