Sy Gowthamraj was born on 12 Febraury 1986 in Aranthangi, Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu. He completed his BA English from Alagappa University and at MGR Government Film and Television Institute before entering the film industry. He began working in film industry as a writer, director and lyricist for Raatchasi.
Sy Gowthamraj (born 12 February 1986) is an Indian film director who works primarily in the Tamil film industry. He is best known for writing and directing the tamil drama film Raatchasi (2019). He made his directorial feature debut with the drama movie Raatchasi starring Jyothika to play the leading role in a "female-centric" script, for which he won the JFW Award 2020 for Best Director - Women Centric Film. He also received honors from the Minister of Education Malaysia - Maszlee Malik (2019) in Malaysia for writing and directing Raatchasi movie.
