With the Western genre having made a remarkable comeback on television in recent years, there's a new and much wider selection of shows to choose from. Several of these Western series have also managed to convince numerous renowned A-list film talent to make their way to the small screen. 2020 may have been a hard year for the entertainment industry, but thanks to Showtime, along with four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke, the seven-episode run of The Good Lord Bird was able to further contribute to the genre's re-emergence. Based on the novel of the same name by James McBride, it isn't just any kind of Western, it's one that's inspired by actual historical events and has something meaningful to say about American history and race.
