John Mulaney Breaks Down the Music Powering ‘Everybody’s Live’
Image
John Mulaney can’t help but play favorites a bit discussing the different parts of his unorthodox weekly talk show Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney. “I have to say,” he told Rolling Stone via Zoom last week, “there’s no part of the show and there’s no part of the week that’s as exciting as when we first rehearse music.”

“Hardcore music nerd” may not be Mulaney’s most well-known attribute, but his level of music geekery is astonishing. (During a recent talk with Rolling Stone, he...

John Mulaney at an event for The Oscars (2024)
Comedian Roasts Prince Harry And Meghan At Netflix Event
John Mulaney at an event for The Oscars (2024)
The Sussexes’ relationship with Netflix are at an end. For one thing this is the year their precious little contract with the streaming giant expires and chatter says Netflix is by no means considering any kind of renewal.

If Netflix goes, then they would have lost Netflix and Spotify – two promising partners for their Archewell Productions.

I also hear their deal with Penguin Random House was quietly dropped, so maybe 2025 is the year Harry and Meghan actually start looking for real jobs? See what a comedian has to say on that head.

John Mulaney Jokes Netflix Gave The Sussexes Money “Without A Specific Plan”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s deal with Netflix may not have yielded the best shows in recent times, but it had its moments. For example, ‘Harry and Meghan’ remain the most watched documentary on Netflix. But in recent days, they’ve been having quite a few misses.

John Mulaney Promises His New Live Show ‘Will Never Be Your Source for News’
Image
John Mulaney has zero interest in becoming the next Jon Stewart — that one-day-per-week work schedule is just too brutal.

At some point during the later years of the George W. Bush administration, Stewart and The Daily Show unintentionally created a phenomenon in left-leaning cable-watchers where a large fraction of the Daily Show audience primarily learned about politics and current events through Stewart’s roughly 22-minute skewering of the 24-hour news cycle. The success of The Daily Show contributed toward a commonly accepted misconception that stand-up comedians are somehow qualified to educate their fans on the issues that affect the entire country, a notion that the political right has recently capitalized upon in spades and one which superstar Mulaney has no interest in perpetuating on his own talk shows.

When Mulaney premieres his new Netflix live show Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, he will not be everybody’s source of...

Netflix Sets Premiere Date for 'Everybody's Live With John Mulaney'
Image
During the Next on Netflix event, which was held in Los Angeles on January 29, 2025, John Mulaney took to the stage to confirm when his new talk show will debut on the streaming platform, and not only is it soon, but fans will get to see a lot of John Mulaney shortly. Everybody's Live With John Mulaney has set a March premiere date for its first season – and a Season 2 is already in the works.

Talk of John Mulaney hosting a talk show first emerged in Oct. 2024, following the critical success of his limited Netflix series Everybody's in L.A. earlier that year. Mulaney was so excited about hosting his own talk show that he reportedly turned down the chance to host the 97th Academy Awards to focus on this project.

Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney will debut on Netflix on Mar. 12, 2025, via IndieWire and will air weekly for 12 weeks,...

John Mulaney’s Netflix Talk Show Set to Release in March

John Mulaney’s new live talk show has set its debut and its self-explanatory title, Everybody’s Live in L.A. With John Mulaney.

“We will be live globally with no delay. We will never be relevant. We will never be your source for news,” the comedian said during a Hollywood media event on Wednesday. “We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will run for 12 weeks and release on the streamer on March 12.

John Mulaney promises a reckless experiment with new Netflix talk show
Image
While it seemed like John Mulaney was in the running to host the Oscars, that gig eventually went to Conan O’Brien. Instead, John Mulaney went the opposite route, signing on for a talk show with Netflix. You might be thinking, Wait, John Mulaney has a talk show coming out? He indeed does, although we’re not entirely sure what to expect…and that’s kind of the point.

John Mulaney recently revealed that Everybody’s Live is yet another partnership with Netflix (which has been producing his stand-up specials for a decade now), although this one came about in a more oddball way, joking, “It was one of those shows that neither Netflix nor I really needed to do. I never wanted to host a talk show, and they were getting out of the talk show game, so it was the perfect moment to do this.”

Even though John Mulaney...

John Mulaney Roasts Harry & Meghan At Netflix Event
Image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren’t present at Netflix’s annual programming event but the royal pair did catch some strays.

John Mulaney, who is returning to the streamer with a new live variety talk show, took aim at the Montecito residents as he was promoting the show.

“Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan,” he joked.

It comes after Netflix struck a rather handsome overall deal with the pair’s Archewell Productions banner in 2020. That deal has led to series such as the Harry & Meghan docuseries, which launched in December 2022, interview series Live to Lead, Harry’s Heart of Invictus, which premiered in 2023, Polo, which launched last year and Markle’s upcoming lifestyle series With Love.

The former SNL writer was full of gags during the presentation.

“I have to say of all the DVD mail order businesses that pivoted,...

John Mulaney Reveals Details of New Netflix Talk Show
Image
John Mulaney’s new Netflix talk show is taking shape — and it’s not much different from the test case he pulled off in 2024.

The comic was on-hand for the streamer’s Next on Netflix event Wednesday in Hollywood, and he confirmed that, come March 12, he’ll launch Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney.

Like his Netflix is a Joke stunt, Everybody’s in L.A., the show will tape in Los Angeles and will feature a couch of eclectic guests, live viewer phone calls, Richard Kind and Saymo — the food delivery robot. “This will be the one place where you could see Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting next to Nikki Glaser sitting next to a family therapist with music by Mannequin Pussy,” said Mulaney. “That’s just a brief sampling of guests. We don’t know if we can lock in Mannequin Pussy, but we are in talks with them.”

John Mulaney’s Live Netflix Talk Show Gears Up For Launch With A Second Season Already On The Cards
Image
Exclusive: John Mulaney is getting ready to launch his live variety talk show at Netflix.

The comedian is set to kick off his show – the follow-up to his successful and beautifully chaotic Everybody’s in LA series – on March 12. Everybody Live with John Mulaney will run for 12 weeks.

Deadline understands that Mulaney received a two-season order from the streamer, which greenlit the show last year. The move means that unless something goes horribly wrong, the Baby J comedian will be back for a second run of the live show.

We also hear that Ashley Edens, who was co-showrunner of Everybody’s in LA, will serve as exec producer of the show alongside Mulaney. Edens recently served as showrunner for Fox’s The Real Full Monty and has exec produced specials such as Little Big Town’s Christmas at the Opry, Dick Van Dyke’s 98 Years of Magic and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

John Mulaney Explains His New Netflix Talk Show: ‘We Will Never Be Your Source for News’
John Mulaney at an event for 33rd Film Independent Spirit Awards (2018)
Attention fans of weird late-night shows about coyotes: our time has come (once again).

“It was one of those shows that neither Netflix nor I really needed to do,” John Mulaney explained from stage in Los Angeles January 29 during Netflix’s Next on Netflix event about his acclaimed six-night 2024 talk series. “I never wanted to host a talk show, and they were getting out of the talk show game, so it was the perfect moment to do this.”

That’s how Mulaney teased that yeah, he’s coming back for more. The new live show, “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney,” will air weekly for 12 weeks beginning March 12 on Netflix.

“We will be live globally with no delay,” Mulaney shared from stage. “We will never be relevant. We will never be your source for news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.

John Mulaney’s new Netflix talk show will premiere weekly beginning in March.

“Not Hell, Not Heaven” is an uptempo melodic punk tune, with singer Kat Moss offering clean vocals over a driving guitar riff. It’s one of 11 tracks on Are We All Angels, which was produced by Will Yip.

Notable names include Queens of the Stone Age, Megadeth, Justice, Avril Lavigne, Tyla, Goose, Modest Mouse, Glass Animals, Beabadoobee, Mj Lenderman, The Lemon Twigs, Raye, Foster the People, Jpegmafia, Nelly, Jack’s Mannequin, Natasha Bedingfield, Marcus King, Royel Otis, and Mannequin Pussy. And all of that’s without mentioning Insane Clown Posse (!!), who are set to make their Bonnaroo debut. Yes, Bonnaroovians and Juggalos, together at last.

Grammys 2025 rock contenders: Legendary Rolling Stones could face younger faves like St. Vincent
Image
Rock music is far from dead. Last year’s Grammy nominations proved that, with some of the leading acts in music being present in the rock categories. Alongside legends like The Rolling Stones and Metallica, the field was graced by the presence of Gen-z’s favorite artists, such as Boygenius, Arctic Monkeys and Olivia Rodrigo. So to find great rock music these days, you just have to pay attention. We are certainly paying attention this year, with a slew of buzzy releases already in the conversation to take home the gold come Grammy time.

One of the biggest stories in rock this season is the return of The Beatles with the single “Now and Then.” It’s unclear if the song will be competing in pop or in rock, but either way it’s for sure getting them a nomination. A music video made to their hit song “I’m...

‘Survivor’ Breakout Star Ben Katzman Wants You to Shred Away Your Pain
Image
When the universe offers a sign — and the sign comes straight from the lips of Nicolas Cage — you can’t ignore it.

That, in essence, is how 31-year-old guitarist Ben Katzman found himself on Survivor. The paperwork sat on his desk, but Katzman was racked with doubt. He’d already lost everything once: his band, his record label, his DIY community. Going on reality television seemed like a potential career suicide. Which is where Cage comes in.

“Do the things you are fearful of,” the actor said, answering Katzman’s...

Punk-Rock Heroes Mannequin Pussy Crush All Expectations on ‘I Got Heaven’
Image
It’s been five years since Mannequin Pussy released their critically-acclaimed album Patience, which proved just how versatile and unapologetically intense these Philly punk rockers could be. From perfect break-up anthems like “Drunk II” to screaming ragers like “Cream,” the band ventured beyond the noise rock heard in Fishtown dive bars to write stunning songs with tons of emotional power. Since then, Mannequin Pussy — which is comprised of singer Marisa “Missy” Dabice, drummer Kaleen Reading, bassist Colins “Bear” Regisford, and newly added guitarist and keyboardist Maxine Steen — scratched the pandemic...

Mannequin Pussy I Got Heaven Review: A Musical Expression of Self-Governance
Sometimes (2016)
Mannequin Pussy’s I Got Heaven represents a number of notable firsts for the Philly band: It’s their first studio album in five years, their first with guitarist Maxine Steen, and the first they’ve written together as a unit in the studio. But I Got Heaven isn’t so much a reinvention as it is a reinvigoration—a doubling down on all of the things that make Mannequin Pussy one of the most electrifying rock bands working right now.

I Got Heaven feels at once spontaneous and meticulous, no doubt owing to the collaborative writing process and the steady hand of producer John Congleton. For the way they mix elements of hardcore, shoegaze, and power pop across their music, Mannequin Pussy have long defied strict categorization. And reflective of the band’s penchant for blurring genres, the new album remains fiercely focused on its singular theme of freedom.

Militarie Gun Announce New EP Life Under the Sun, Share Single Featuring Manchester Orchestra: Stream
Image
Militarie Gun have announced Life Under the Sun, a new EP due on January 26th featuring reimaginings of songs from their debut album, Life Under the Gun. Along with the announcement, they shared the single “My Friends Are Having a Hard Time” featuring Manchester Orchestra.

Life Under the Gun debuted in summer 2023 and served as a proper introduction to the blend of kinda-sorta hardcore sonics and personal songwriting that earned Militarie Gun a spot on Consequence‘s list of 15 rising artists to watch in 2024. The track “My Friends Are Having a Hard Time” — which has now been reimagined as a duet with Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull — exemplifies that blend.

“My girl says this song makes her really sad,” frontman Ian Shelton told Consequence for Militarie Gun’s Track by Track breakdown of Life Under the Gun. “Being someone who loves melancholy songs, I just love it. At the time I wrote it,...

Mannequin Pussy Announce New Album I Got Heaven, Share “I Don’t Know You”: Stream
Image
Philly band Mannequin Pussy have announced their new album, I Got Heaven, out March 1st via Epitaph Records. As a preview, they’ve shared the latest single, “I Don’t Know You.”

The group took a different approach to recording the project, convening in Los Angeles to collaborate with indie rock producer extraordinaire John Congleton rather than writing at home. “There was so much going on in our lives that it was the perfect opportunity to recalibrate who we were as people and musicians,” said bassist Colins “Bear” Regisford in a statement.

“When I’ve written songs, it’s usually a very solitary process,” added vocalist/guitarist Marisa Dabice. “So this was shedding a lot of those hermit-like qualities to do something intensively collaborative. Your best work comes when you allow other people into it.”

Pre-orders for I Got Heaven are ongoing. See the artwork and full tracklist below.

A long line of fans is already stretching down the block, waiting for the doors to open. But the four members of the punk band are unable to focus on much right now besides their desperate desire to get some rest.

They’ve spent the past month crammed together in a Ford Transit van, putting roughly 5,200 miles on the dashboard and playing practically every night. They slump down on a dressing-room couch,...

Mannequin Pussy Return with Divine New Single “I Got Heaven”: Stream
Image
Mannequin Pussy are back with “I Got Heaven,” the Philly band’s first new music since their 2021 EP Perfect.

Produced by indie rock studio wiz John Congleton, “I Got Heaven” flips the idea of modern Christianity on its head — or, rather, strips it down to its core beliefs. If God’s creation was indeed perfect, Mannequin Pussy seem to argue: Why treat anything, ourselves included, as anything less than divine? “Oh I got heaven inside of me/ Oh I’m an angel I was sent here/ To keep you company,” vocalist Marisa Dabice proclaims, her voice flitting between an ethereal soprano and a gritty, punky roar.

“‘I Got Heaven’ is a song intended to merge the sacred and the profane and to serve as a reminder that we are all perfect exactly as we have been made and that no one gets to decide how a life should or should not be lived,...

Mannequin Pussy Call Out Religious Hypocrisy in New Single ‘I Got Heaven’
Image
Mannequin Pussy are back, and angrier than ever. The Philadelphia-based punk rock band released their new single “I Got Heaven” with an accompanying video directed by Mason Merce and Anthony Miralles.

“I Got Heaven” is immediately explosive, with lead singer and guitarist Marisa “Missy” Dabice screaming the opening lines, “I went and walked myself/Like a dog without a leash” and asking, “What if Jesus himself ate my fucking snatch?” within the first verse. It’s intense and angry, as intended.

In a press release, Dabice explained that the anger...
