A man’s body was found today in a 55-gallon drum on the beach in Malibu, and an investigation is underway.

Authorities went to the 23200 block of Pacific Coast Highway about 10:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. That 23200 Pch address is directly adjacent to the lagoon that sometimes feeds into the water at Surfrider beach north of the pier.

A sheriff’s department official told reporters at the scene the drum had been seen in the water at Malibu Lagoon State Beach on Sunday night by sanitation workers, but they were unable to retrieve it. A lifeguard spotted the same barrel Monday morning and was able to bring it to shore, then opened it and saw the body inside.

Longtime local resident, realtor and advocate for the restoration of the Malibu Lagoon, Andy Lyon, posted a photo to social media which was shared by others online.

101 Films Intl. has secured worldwide distribution rights for World War II adventure film “War Blade,” starring Joseph Millson, Paul Marlon (“Trigger Point”), Michael McKell and Rebecca Scott. The sales company is presenting the film to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The film was written and directed by Nicholas Winter.

“War Blade” follows Robert Banks, an agent of the British Special Operations Executive, who is tasked with rescuing a French resistance fighter from a hidden Nazi bunker. With the help of a German nurse and a ragtag group of allies, Banks must journey to the belly of the beast.

With his commanders already suspecting the bunker holds much more than prisoners, and a group full of fragile personalities to deal with, Banks faces dangers from all fronts. Always outnumbered and outgunned, Banks and his group must use their guile to outwit the enemy and survive the deadly mission.

Australian companies Monster Pictures, Pictures In Paradise and Sunjive Studios are partnering on a 12m production fund for an initial three-picture slate, opening with Daniel J. Phillips’ genre title Diabolic.

The movie is available for the first time at the Cannes Film Market this week.

In “Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist,” contemporary events are shown as setting the stage for the return of Christ and the coming Apocalypse. The film follows the original characters and storylines of the best-selling books, which were written in the mid-nineties and have sold more than 80 million copies in multiple languages, but have been updated.

Volume 3 of the series, from executive producers Tim Miller and David Fincher, will span nine episodes. Some uncover ancient evil, while others explore a comedic apocalypse. The show will tell fantasy, horror and sci-fi stories across its third run.

Even though “Mindhunter” Season 3 is still indefinitely on hold, David Fincher makes his return to Netflix episodic directing — and his first time directing an animated project.

The Academy Award winner has directed one episode of the upcoming “Love, Death + Robots” Volume 3, premiering May 20 with nine new stories. Fincher, who has served as an executive producer since Season 1, directed Episode 2, titled “Bad Travelling,” about a shark-hunting ship attacked by a giant crustacean.

“Mutiny, betrayal, and ventriloquism with a corpse… Welcome aboard the animation directing debut of David Fincher,” the official episode synopsis reads. Based on a short story by Neal Asher of the same name, the episode is penned by Andrew Kevin Walker with animation by Blur Studio.

101 Films International has picked up world sales rights to “Fear the Invisible Man,” an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel, Variety can exclusively reveal.

Described as a “period action thriller,” the adaptation stars Mhairi Calvey (“Braveheart”), David Hayman (“The Boy in the Striped Pjamas”), Mark Arnold (“Teen Wolf”) and Mike Beckingham (“Truth Seekers”).

“‘Fear the Invisible Man’ sees Adeline, a young British woman shelter an old medical school colleague, a man who has somehow turned himself invisible,” reads the logline. “As his isolation grows and his sanity frays, he schemes to create a reign of wanton murder and terror across the city – and Adeline’s the only one who knows that he even exists.”

The feature was shot across the south west of England with locations encompassing Bristol, Gloucester and Bath.

Amcomri Entertainment has come on board as financier and producer, alongside Ireland’s Studio Atlantic, on Victorian-era thriller “The Gates.” The film stars John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli the dwarf in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Amcomri’s 101 Films Intl. will handle global sales.

The film is set in London in the 1890s. Serial killer William Colcott has been sentenced to death by electric chair, but in his final hours, he puts a curse on the prison he is in, and all of those in it.

The film, directed by Stephen Hall and written by Tim Reynolds, also stars Richard Brake, Elena Delia and Michael Yare. Filming started this month in Ireland, with delivery expected in time for the Cannes Film Market. The director of photography is Burschi Wojnar.

The film tells of a charming guy, portrayed by Mann who attempts to pick up a woman in a bar by spinning a tale involving spies, implanted microchips and the dangerous military scientist hunting him. But who is to say that the tale is not true? Or that the unimpressed woman is not actually the hunter?

Mattsson plays the femme fatale, while Robert Patrick plays a mysterious military scientist.

International sales agent and distribution company 101 Films Intl. has entered into a multi-picture deal with Mike Hatton’s production company Ton of Hats, which calls for the delivery of four films over the next 18 months. The slate will be backed by Head Gear Films and BondIt Media Capital.

The deal builds on the co-production between 101 Films Intl. and Ton of Hats on “Take Back,” starring Michael Jai White and Mickey Rourke, and “Every Last One of Them,” starring Richard Dreyfuss, Taryn Manning, Jake Weber and Michael Madsen.

The first film in the new slate is an action thriller, currently in casting with details to be announced shortly, which is scheduled to begin shooting this summer.
