- Effective February 2001, Dr. Garneau was appointed Executive Vice President of the Canadian Space Agency.
- On October 4, 1984 he became the first Canadian in space (on mission STS 41-G aboard space shuttle Challenger).
- On November 22, 2002 he was appointed President of the Canadian Space Agency.
- Member of parliament and minister 2008-2023.
- He studied engineering physics at the Royal Military College of Kingston (Ontario), and received a doctorate in electrical engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy, where he served from 1974 to 1983.
