How ‘Worlds Beyond Number’ Broke Battlefields, Hearts, and Also Pro Tools
Image
For anyone who has made the sane decision to not have a podcast, Pro Tools is Avid’s audio editing suite and is the most common Daw (digital audio workstation) in use once you reach a certain level of production. It has all sorts of plugins to enhance or alter audio files and can mix in Dolby Atmos, if that’s your bag. It also has a limit of 1,024 discrete tracks to hold audio files in a single project. For one recent episode of the”Worlds Beyond Number” podcast, producer Taylor Moore hit the Pro Tools track limit. Twice.

“Worlds Beyond Number” is an audio actual play series currently concluding its first arc of fantasy tale “The Wizard, The Witch, and the Wild One,” before it transitions to a new setting for an as-yet-unnamed science-fiction story. But every two weeks for the past two years, players Aabria Iyengar, Erika Ishii,...

Image
Warning: this article contains spoilers for season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. The Legend of Vox Machina has changed quite a bit of the story of the rag-tag adventuring party when compared to the original stream from Critical Role, but the third season introduced some major twists with ramifications that still have yet to become clear. Some of these changes in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 have been for greater emotional impact and some have been to help the flow of the story, but either way, The Legend of Vox Machina's 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes makes it clear these were changes for the better. So far though, none have been so sweeping as the changes to how Vox Machina acquired the Plate of the Dawnmartyr.

In the original stream, Vox Machina acquired the Plate by traveling to the City of Brass, the capital of the Elemental Plane of Fire.

This Underrated Fantasy Series Figured Out The Voldemort Story Harry Potter Should Have Told

"Misfits and Magic" features a compelling reimagining of Voldemort with a more complex character arc than in Harry Potter. Evan Kelmp's story subverts Voldemort's one-dimensional villainy, showing genuine growth and self-acceptance. The humorous and critical contrast to Harry Potter in "Misfits and Magic" highlights the potential for more nuanced character arcs.

Dimension 20's comedic riff on Harry Potter has a Dark Lord plot that's far more compelling than the storyline for Voldemort. Dropout's Ttrpg series, Dimension 20 largely functions as an anthology that hops around between stories from season to season. While some revisit characters and settings from previous parts of the series, with a rotating cast joining the one-off "Side Quests" that typically are expansions on previous seasons or well-known media archetypes. Among the best seasons of Dimension 20 is "Misfits and Magic," which dives into a world clearly designed to resemble the wizarding world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter.

The following contains spoilers for Dimension 20: Burrow's End Episode 1, "The Red Warren," now streaming on Dropout.

Dimension 20 has developed a habit of fusing unlikely genres into comedy gold. But Burrow's End has some pretty big tonal swings even for this group of performers. With Aabria Iyengar serving as Dm and Brennan Lee Mulligan, Erika Ishii, Siobhan Thompson and Isabella Roland returning as players, it's a more serious piece than many of the show's previous seasons.
