She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 2019, and additionally holds a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology which she graduated with distinction in 2023.

She competed in the Miss Universe Canada Pageant in 2017 and placed Top 20, making her the shortest contestant to place that year alongside competitors like Marta Stepien and Lauren Howe. She previously held the crown for Miss World Okanagan that same year.

Shanelle is recognized as a Métis citizen (which is known to be one of the three distinct Indigenous Peoples acknowledge by the Canadian Constitution). Her relative in the Métis community is Gabriel Dumont, who is best known for leading the small Métis military forces during the Northwest Resistance of 1885. Being a performer is also in her blood, as Dumont was also know for his participation and performance in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show.
