The series is based on a novel of the same name by author Elin Hilderbrand, and the writer recently shared a positive update recently.

Hilderbrand, as well as showrunner Jenna Lamia, took part in the Flipping the Script: Bestsellers to Screen panel at the Nantucket Film Festival. Of course, the topic of The Perfect Couple season 2 had to come up. The author didn't give a direct response on whether Netflix will be developing a second season, though her comments indicate that there are plans in the works. The murder mystery drama series The Perfect Couple was a hit on Netflix when it premiered on Sept 5, 2024. Although it was originally supposed to be a limited series, the streamer has officially announced its future.

Per Deadline, The Perfect Couple has been renewed for Season 2. However, as the series has already solved the mystery at the end of Season 1, things will be different in the future. Instead of following the same characters, Season 2 will become an anthology while continuing to adapt Elin Hilderbrand's novels, this time, the 2024 novel Swan Song.

Elin Hilderbrand often writes novels set on or around Nantucket, where she lives. The Perfect Couple Season 1 followed the action of the 2018 eponymous novel, part of the Nantucket series. However, while the series as a whole creates a bigger universe where many characters are mentioned in different stories and provide further details about the characters, they can be enjoyed as standalones.

Netflix's The Perfect Couple cast is jam-packed with A-list actors who help shape the Nantucket-based murder mystery. The miniseries is an onscreen adaptation of the eponymous book by New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. Hulu is not proceeding with a second season of its original drama series Black Cake, starring Adrienne Warren and Mia Isaac. The news is not surprising as it’s been 10 months since Season 1 ended its run on the streamer.

This marks a formal resolution for the series, from Women of the Movement creator Marissa Jo Cerar, Oprah Winfrey‘s Harpo Films and Aaron Kaplan‘s Kapital Entertainment, whose fate had been sealed for months. It didn’t necessarily have to be — I’d heard chatter that Netflix was interested in picking up the acclaimed drama but the inquiry didn’t go far as program relocations from one major streamer to another are very rare — and complicated — in the era of streaming wars.

Netflix had been among the original suitors for the project, which landed at Hulu in 2021 after a bidding war.

Taking place across Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England and Southern California, the generational saga centers on a runaway bride named Covey (Mia Isaac), who disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica and is feared drowned — or a fugitive on the run for her husband’s murder in the late 1960s, according to the official logline.

Her story is uncovered 50 years later in California when widow Eleanor Bennett (Chipo Chung) loses her battle with cancer and leaves her two estranged children, Byron (Ashley Thomas) and Benny (Adrienne Warren), a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America.

Liev Schreiber has expressed his admiration for Nicole Kidman, revealing unexpected facets of his co-star in their latest project, The Perfect Couple.

In a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham, Schreiber, 56, shared insights about his experience working with Kidman, 57.

“I got things from Nicole Kidman that I had no idea existed,” Schreiber confessed. He described Kidman as someone who “really exudes grace and elegance and authority and all these things.”

Adding a touch of humor, Schreiber joked, “I’m here to tell you that I have never met anyone so quick to be inappropriate on a set than Nicole.”

It’s all fun and games until someone ends up dead for one wealthy family and their friends in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple. A detective on the case declares, “These people are used to getting whatever they want. The minute they feel they are losing control, they burn it all down,” and truer words have never been spoken.

The murder mystery’s official trailer arrived just ahead of its September 5, 2024 premiere and features Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson, and Dakota Fanning. Ishaan Khatter, Billy Howle, and Jack Reynor also star in the six-episode limited series.

The upcoming Netflix series “The Perfect Couple” brings together alums from “Big Little Lies,” “Ripley,” and “The White Lotus” for yet another vacation gone awry. Nicole Kidman leads the novel adaptation, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestseller, as matriarch Greer Winbury whose son is getting married… only to find someone in the wedding party dead on the big day.

Jenna Lamia is the writer and showrunner, with Susanne Bier directing. Bier previously worked with Kidman in another novel adaptation “The Undoing” (2020), and also directed the series “The Night Manager” (2016) and “The First Lady” (2022), plus films “Brothers” (2004), “After the Wedding” (2006), “In a Better World” (2010), and “Bird Box” (2018).

Nicole Kidman sure loves a murder mystery. Not only is she keen for another season of Big Little Lies, she’s now starring in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple, another ambitious, star-studded show centering on a murder.

The series is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s book and the author is also executive producing the series. Susanne Bier is directing and Jenna Lamia is acting as showrunner.

Netflix has also set up a dedicated page for the series on their Tudum platform. The page includes a formal invite to the wedding as well as the full schedule for the festivities. Interestingly the press release doesn’t state how many episodes the series consists of but The Hollywood Reporter reports The Perfect Couple will be 6 episodes.
