Biography

    • Suzanne Moreau believes creative self-expression is a fingerprint of the soul.

Suzanne is an award-winning, emerging independent filmmaker, who creates visual stories through the female gaze as a writer, director, producer, and production designer. Her goal is to amplify the voices of women and girls to break the bias and bring about a more equitable and just society. Her films delve into social justice issues and synergize a BFA in visual art with decades of arts practice grounded in her 30+ year career in public service. Her policy work in community and criminal justice and gender equity programs contributed towards a more just and equitable society. Her unique background synthesizing visual and performing arts with social sciences adds veracity (and levity) to her current artistic expression in narrative fiction film.

Filmography: Fully produced dram-edy short films she wrote, directed, designed and produced: GINNY'S ENTERPRISE (2023) is an homage to a childhood fantasy of Star Trek and how it helped a girl escape the systemic oppression of the 1960's white man's world. Its world premiere was at Toronto Lift-Off Festival (7-23), where it won 'Audience Choice'. Its USA premiere was at LA Femme Film Festival (10-23), and to date has won 'Best Narrative Film', 'Best Drama - North America', 'Best Drama', 'Best Youth Artist' for Mae Robb, 'Best Cinematography' for Kelly Conlin, and 'Outstanding Achievement' for Adrian Bent's Original Score. It also screened in Marcellus New York, Toronto, and Santa Fe in 2022, and at the Victoria Film Festival (2-23). It won awards among festivals world-wide, including 'Best First-Time Director', 'Best Direction' (x2), 'Best Drama - North America', 'Best Family/Children Film', 'Best Original Story', 'Best Screenplay' (x2), 'Best Editing', 'Best Sound Design', 'Best Actress' (x2), 'Best Ensemble', and 'Best Production'. It will also screen at Toronto's Int'l Black & Diversity Film Festival (5-24).

Experimental Super8 Comedy Films she wrote, directed and filmed: ERSATZ CATS (2021) an anthropomorphic peek at how 'people playing cats playing people playing cats' play when people are away. It screened at theVictoria Film Festival (2-22) and Toronto's 'the8fest' Small-Gauge Film Festival (8-22); FOR FOX SAKE (2022) a black and white, anthropomorphic play on silent cinema era gender tropes. It screened at the Victoria Film Festival (2-23); MOCHI - THE MOCH-UMENTARY (2023) a 'cat's got your tongue-in-cheek' look at a matriarchal foodie tradition, also anthropomorphic. It screened at CineVic's One-Take Super8 Showcase (10-23).

Independent Film Collaborations: Suzanne was Set Designer for "My Name is Arnold" (2022) which won ten festival awards including Outstanding Art Direction, ShortCircuit Pacific Rim Festival (5-22), People's Choice Award - Best Overall Short, Vancouver Asian Film Festival (11-22) and Audience Favourite Short, Victoria Film Festival (2-23). From 2019-2023 Suzanne collaborated on several CineVic members' indie films as a writer, director, assistant director, producer, production manager, script supervisor, locations scout/manager, casting director, art director, set designer and/or costume designer.

Screenwriting: Suzanne won awards and recognition for her un-produced short screenplays at international screenwriting festivals: BAGG-AGE won 'Best New Screenwriter' in LA's Festigious Festival; GINNY'S ENTERPRISE was a finalist in New York Women, and Vancouver International Film Festivals; BLOOD BUDDIES was a Top 5 finalist in CineSpark, ShortCircuit Pacific Rim Festival (2021). Future projects include her full feature historical fiction, DIVINING GOLD, and a dystopian series, SOUR PLUM[E]S.

When she is not expressing herself creatively, Suzanne can be found bicycle touring, dancing to Latin beats, or frolicking in the garden with her family, fur-babies, and friends.
