For Alex Seaver, better known as the DJ Mako, strapping in and joining the thrill ride that is Arcane was a chance-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Before he joined the music team for Netflix’s record-breaking animated series, Seaver says he was churning out music for video game developer Riot Games when writer Christian Linke “invited me to a corner of the campus that I had never been to.”

“He started playing me a little bit of Arcane, and telling me that he had been kind of cracking away for, like, three years, unbeknownst to many of us,” Seaver said on a panel for the show at Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television about the evolution of the action-adventure series inspired by Riot Games’ League of Legends multiplayer online game.

Every Linkin Park Album, Ranked Worst To Best (Including From Zero)
Image
Few bands have made an impact on the modern alternative rock genre like Linkin Park has. Pioneering nu-metal rock bands like Korn, Faith No More, and Public Enemy helped pioneer the rising hip-hop-infused genre of the 1990s with the grunge and hard rock influences of groups like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. Linkin Park became a result of these two decade-defining pools of rock on the heels of the pioneering electronic rock sound of Nine Inch Nails. Their 2000 debut album Hybrid Theory combined these influences and became one of the most emblematic LPs of the 21st century.

The group's 2003 sophomore effort, Meteroa, is one of the most purchased albums of the 21st century with more than 27 million copies sold worldwide. Despite their iconic original hip-hop/metal sound, mixed with Mike Shinoda's piercing bars and Chester Bennington's even more piercing scream vocals, Linkin Park leaned more...

Mike Shinoda Didn’t Want Reunited Linkin Park to Sound Like a Cover Band: “It’s Creepy”
Image
Mike Shinoda has opened up about the decision to pick Emily Armstrong as the singer for a reunited Linkin Park instead of a Chester Bennington sound-alike.

The announcement of Armstrong was greeted with some backlash, in part due to drama surrounding her ties to scientology and Danny Masterson; however, some fans were simply upset that the band didn’t pick someone who sounds just like Bennington.

Shinoda compared it to the Linkin Park cover bands he’d seen on YouTube, defending the choice of Armstrong as the singer for the reunion in an interview with Los Angeles radio station Alt 98.7.

“We just want Emily to be Emily,” he said. “The songs are the songs. Emily is Emily… There was a time early on, like 2020-ish, 2019, whatever — like, I remembered I was watching videos… I think a video of a cover band, a Linkin Park cover band,...

Every Song On Linkin Park's 'From Zero' Ranked
Image
It's an exciting time for fans of Linkin Park as the band have embarked on a brand-new chapter with the release of their new album, From Zero. The album was released on November 15, 2024, and is the eighth studio album by the band. The album's reception has been generally positive as From Zero debuts Linkin Park's new members: Emily Armstong on co-leading vocals, and Colin Brittain as the band's new drummer.

From Zero is the band's first release since One More Light in 2017, the final album featuring Chester Bennington's vocals before his untimely death later that same year. The album marks Linkin Park's new beginnings, with reference to the band's original name, Xero. The album showcases many of the familiar sound elements that are signature to Linkin Park's original sound, with Mike Shinoda's raps, nu-metal drum beats and roaring guitar riffs.

That said, the album does delve into some...

Linkin Park ‘From Zero’ Review: More Retread Than Rebrand
Image
“From Zero? Like from nothing?” Linkin Park’s new frontwoman, Emily Armstrong, asks just seconds into the band’s eighth studio album, From Zero. The question isn’t just an allusion to Linkin Park’s original name from 1996 to 1999, Xero, but a subtle acknowledgment of the elephant in the room: the suicide of lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017, leading to the band regrouping. Linkin Park is embracing the inevitability of change, framing it as something that can—and should—be seen as a good thing.

It’s baffling, then, that the band spends much of the remainder of the album’s half-hour runtime reliving the past. Specifically, From Zero apes the sounds and styles of Linkin Park’s first three albums without attaining their emotional or sonic impact. The angst-ridden fury of Hybrid Theory (on “Two Faced”), the hook-laden anthems of Meteora (on “The Emptiness Machine”), and the alt-rock leanings...

How Linkin Park Defined The Transformers Movies
Image
While the Transformers franchise might be centered on robotic aliens that can change into various vehicles, weapons, and even animals, one often overlooked element of the franchise is music. 1986's The Transformers: The Movie featured many memorable needle drops with the song "The Touch" by Stan Bush having a strong life outside the movie and was featured in 1997's Boogie Nights. Yet when most people think of music from Transformers, the band whose sound is closely tied in with the franchise is that of Linkin Park.

Founded in 1996 and going through a few names until settling on Linkin Park, the band featured lead vocalist Chester Bennington, lead guitarist Brad Delson, DJ/turntablist Joe Hahn, bassist Dave Farrell, and drummer Rob Bourdon. A hit in the 2000s, their signature combination of nu-metal, rock, and alternative made them the perfect fit for an update on the Transformers franchise looking to bring the series to a wider audience.

“We’re going to replace you with a girl”: Mike Shinoda Allegedly Warned Chester Bennington about Linkin Park’s True Intentions When He Was Alive

The music industry faced a major blow when Linkin Park’s lead vocalist Chester Bennington passed away in 2017, following which the rock band went on an indefinite hiatus. But a couple of weeks ago, the band announced that they’re officially making a comeback after seven years. Interestingly, they also announced a new vocalist for the group, who would be stepping in to perform Bennington’s parts during their concerts.

Chester Bennington’s Mother Says Linkin Park Are “Trying Very Hard to Erase the Past”
Image
The late Chester Bennington’s mother, Susan Eubanks, has revealed she feels “betrayed” by Linkin Park after they moved forward with a new singer without giving her any sort of heads-up.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Eubanks said the band told her that they would let her know “if they were ever going to do something.” Instead, she found out they were reuniting with Dead Sara’s Emily Armstrong as co-vocalist through Google — despite having run into vocalist Mike Shinoda and turntablist Joe Hahn in recent years.

Chester Bennington, Who Was $30M Rich Before Passing Away, Agreed to Give Away a Massive Chunk of His Linkin Park Royalties to Ex-Wife
Image
In the world of music, only a few music bands leave a long-lasting legacy. In this American rock band, Linkin Park definitely stands the tallest. The group formed in 1996, created several memorable albums as well as live shows with its lead vocalist Chester Bennington in the forefront. But after his death in 2017, the rock band entered an indefinite period of hiatus.

But even after his passing, fans have kept his legacy alive by listening to several of his hits. This works perfectly given that the $30 million-rich singer had, in the past, agreed to give a massive part of his Linkin Park royalties to his first wife, Samantha Olit.

Linkin Park’s New Lead Singer Explains Backing Danny Masterson in Rape Trial: ‘I Misjudged Him’
Image
Linkin Park just announced earlier this week that the band has re-formed with new lead singer Emily Armstrong. Armstrong’s post read in full, “Hi, I’m Emily. I’m new to so many of you, and I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back.”

“Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I...

Emily Armstrong & Linkin Park Spur Controversy With Singer Announcement
Image
Following years on hiatus, Linkin Park announced its return with new singer Emily Armstrong, but the news has come with controversy.

The American rock band, known for such hits as "In the End" and "Numb," ceased operation in 2017 following the tragic death of lead singer Chester Bennington.

Since then, work on reuniting the group has been a bit of a non-starter. That has not stopped various members from releasing music on their own, though. Since Bennington's passing, singer/rapper Mike Shinoda has been prolific in his output but has not put anything out under the Linkin Park name.

Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley Insists He’s “Not Joining” Linkin Park
Image
With Linkin Park setting a countdown clock that ends on Wednesday (August 28th) and Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley teasing his own Wednesday announcement, fans naturally put the two together and assumed that Whibley would be joining Linkin Park’s lineup on some sort of reunion tour. However, that is not the case, according to the Sum 41 frontman himself.

Speculation has run rampant since Linkin Park launched the countdown clock a couple days ago, with fans assuming that the band will reunite to play festivals and headlining concerts next year. The band hasn’t toured since singer Chester Bennington tragically took his own life in July 2017, only playing a tribute concert later that year (which happened to include Whibley as one of the guest singers).

“I feel the need to dispel some current rumors,” posted Deryck on his social media accounts. “It’s been brought to...

Online Archives of Comedy Central, MTV News.com and More Purged by Paramount Global in Streamlining Move
Image
Paramount removes online archives from ComedyCentral.com, MTVNews.com, and more, directing viewers to Paramount+. This move aims to drive engagement to the streaming service and could be a cost-cutting measure. The internet archive has saved MTV News content dating back to December 1998, providing relief for former staff members.

As global media companies continue to move toward streaming platforms being the sole digital footprint that represents them, Paramount Global has removed online archives for websites such as ComedyCentral.com, MTVNews.com, CMT.com, and more. In their place stands a generic landing page for the network's content offered on Paramount+ with a message that says that while some fan-favorite shows are no longer watchable on the websites, viewers can watch the channels through their TV provider and sign up for Paramount+.

Paramount+

In a statement, Paramount expressed that this was all part of a larger move to drive more engagement to its streaming service.
