2024 may have been a relatively fallow year for the MCU, but there was no shortage of history-making moments scattered throughout the few movies and shows released. 2024 housed the release of just one MCU movie in the form of Deadpool & Wolverine, though it thankfully changed the fortunes of the franchise by breaking financial records after a substandard 2023. Still, the McU's overarching narrative continued to develop between Deadpool & Wolverine and the smattering of MCU shows that landed on Disney+.
The year began with Marvel Studios' first Marvel Spotlight show in the form of Echo. Although productions that fall beneath this banner are intended to be watchable without prior MCU knowledge, Echo's centering of one of the franchise's most formidable and recognizable villains, Kingpin, meant that it, too, delivered some significant developments as Daredevil: Born Again rounds the corner. Agatha All Along was arguably the highlight of the McU's Disney+ offerings, however,...

Goodbye Thanos, hello Doctor Doom. Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and brought every piece of Marvel under its umbrella, nerds everywhere have been clamoring for Doctor Doom to trade punches with Iron Man. Little did they suspect the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Doom, set to be the main villain of 2026's "Avengers: Secret Wars," would be played by the same guy as Iron Man.
The MCU is all about escalation, so does that mean Doom is an even greater threat than Thanos? If the Tin Tyrant dueled the Mad Titan, who would win?
I'm calling on my man Stan: "The person who'd win in a fight is the person the script writer wants to win! These are fictitious characters! The writer can do whatever he wants with them, so stop asking those bonehead questions!"
For example, let's look at "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" season 2, "The Private War of Doctor...

The only way to make any money in Hollywood today is to luck into a franchise you can run into the ground, but when you have to keep the same story going in perpetuity, it’s easy to write yourself into a corner. Sometimes, you have to take a few steps back to tell the story you want to tell. Sometimes, you have to step back until you body slam enough audience members that they’ve completely forgotten everything that’s come before.

Many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are far different to their Marvel Comics counterparts, and, in some cases, this is a very good thing. Since the MCU kicked off with 2008's Iron Man almost 17 years ago, Marvel Studios has adapted dozens of notable characters from Marvel Comics into live-action, building a vibrant universe full of many complex and believable people. While many of these MCU characters are very comic-accurate, Marvel Studios has made huge changes to others, but this has often been for the best.
The likes of Steve Rogers' Captain America, Tony Stark's Iron Man and Loki, among many others, have always stayed very faithful to their depictions in Marvel Comics. However, because of the modern setting and realistic nature of the MCU and in the name of simplifying some convoluted backstories, Marvel Studios has altered many aspects of some notable Marvel Comics characters when bringing them into the MCU.

Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along was originally listed as a miniseries, but the fact that Disney submitted the show in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season led to speculation that a second batch of episodes might be in development.
Rumors that a second season is in the planning stages soon followed, and while Marvel has yet to make it official, we will almost certainly see Miss Harkness in the MCU again in some capacity.
Star Kathryn Hahn - who lost out on a Best Actress Golden Globe during Sunday's ceremony - was asked about the awards submissions and what they could mean for a second season while speaking to TV Line on the red carpet.
“It does suggest that,” the actress conceded. “I am as in-the-dark as you are. There’s going to be a Vision show, so that could be of a trilogy. But who knows?”

After spending decades in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Neil Gaiman comic book series The Sandman actually made it into production and was released into the world as a Netflix series in August of 2022. (Read our review Here.) Season 2 of the show went into production last year, then had to be put on pause for a while due to the writers and actors strikes. Thankfully, The Sandman season 2 was able to resume production as soon as those strikes came to an end – and today, a press release reveals that the cast of the new batch of episodes includes Esmé Creed-Miles (Hanna) as Delirium, Adrian Lester (Hustle) as Destiny, and Barry Sloane (Pleasureland) as The Prodigal. Their characters can be seen in this promo clip:
The Endless have finally assembled: Introducing Adrian Lester as Destiny, Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium and Barry Sloane as the Prodigal in the next season of The Sandman.

Death's Game is a K-drama adaptation of a popular webtoon featuring action sequences that captivate modern audiences. The drama connects the storylines of different characters through the main antagonist, adding intrigue to the plot. The drama made significant changes to the narrative, creating a more human and emotional portrayal of the main character.
With the ever-increasing adaptations of popular Korean webtoons, we are seeing a surge of K-dramas, most of which are enormously successful in both South Korea and overseas. Having begun a decade ago with the likes of True Beauty and Cheese in the Trap, these dramas have come a long way, creating masterpieces such as Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead, and Death's Game.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.

Death's physical presence instantly increases the stakes for the Winchesters, making their mission to cage Lucifer even more significant. Death's role allows for the exploration of new possibilities, such as reviving loved ones, and showcases his nonchalant yet orderly nature. Death's fondness for the Winchesters is evident in his interactions with them, even when they make difficult choices. His calmness and relatable quirks make him a compelling character.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe made cinematic history with its on-screen depiction of classic Marvel Comics villain Thanos the Mad Titan (played by actor Josh Brolin), who quickly became one of the franchise's most compelling and ambitious villains yet. Unlike his original obsession with Lady Death, Thanos' core MCU motivations mostly stemmed from an urge to rectify the expansive population of the universe. The switch from love story to population control retroactively nixed one of Thanos' core love interests, introduced during the characters' most famous story arc.
After serving as a recurring cosmic threat within Marvel Comics for decades, Jim Starlin, George Perez, and Ron Lim's The Infinity Gauntlet event saw Thanos finally rise up to become a force to be reckoned with, thanks to his assemblage of the all-powerful Infinity Gems. Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is finally streaming on Netflix, but this story about the wooden puppet is much darker than the Disney version audiences have come to know. Directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, the stop-motion animation was in development for several years before Netflix acquired Pinocchio in 2018. Since the film also follows Pinocchio’s journey, the comparisons to Disney’s iteration of the story, and especially because the latter’s live-action film released just months before del Toro’s, are hard to avoid despite the two being almost nothing alike beyond the surface.
Del Toro’s Pinocchio is so much darker than Disney’s version because it deals with realism, including youth camps where children are taken to be indoctrinated and trained to use weapons. The film is set between World War I and World War II,...

“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” is here. The puppet made of pine returns amongst a mix of familiar, fantastical and first-time characters in the Oscar-winning “The Shape of Water” and “Crimson Peak” filmmaker’s latest feature. A passion project of del Toro’s, the filmmaker co-directed the film with Mark Gustafson and co-wrote the screenplay with Patrick McHale.
Several other “Pinocchio” productions have been carved out in the more recent years. Robert Zemeckis’ Disney iteration starred Tom Hanks as Gepetto just this year. Del Toro’s rendition adds many new characters as well as twists for those already familiar with this story.

This is not Uncle Walt’s Pinocchio. The little wooden boy has been a symbol of the Walt Disney Company ever since the original animated classic came out in 1940, and not even an ill-advised live-action remake released by the Mouse House just a few months ago could really sully the original’s reputation. But anyone who watches this new, completely separate stop-motion version of the tale, co-directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, is in for a dark surprise—and hopefully, some delight.
Del Toro’s Pinocchio is about as different from Disney’s as one could imagine, and not just because this is stop-motion and the latter is traditional animation. For one thing, this is clearly del Toro’s vision, and while it may give perhaps only the littlest viewers a few unpleasant dreams, it is nevertheless infused with the maestro’s Gothic storytelling sensibility (even more so...

The Flash season 8 quietly set up the perfect replacement for Joe West. Played by Jesse L. Martin, Barry’s adoptive father is one of the few holdovers from the original season 1 cast. And while he’s expected to return in some capacity for season 9, Martin will no longer be a series regular.
With Joe having a reduced presence in Barry’s life for The Flash's final season, it’s possible that a new character will take his place as Barry’s mentor. The most suitable candidate for this role was name-dropped in The Flash season 8’s “Into the Still Force”. During his time in the Still Force, Barry saw the faces of people from his past, present, and future. A character named Max was mentioned in the same breath as Barry’s closest allies, meaning that he’ll likely become quite close to Barry in the days ahead. The name...

Though the brother of The Sandman's Dream abdicated his role in the Endless, there's a solid chance that he may one day return. Destruction abandoned his duties, but why did he do that, and what may ultimately bring him back?
While Morpheus is the Lord of Dreams, he is but one of seven siblings that make up the family of abstract concepts known as the Endless. The Endless are the oldest beings in existence and represent a number of principles in the world such as desire, despair and even delirium. While the family plays a large role in The Sandman, one member is shown having relieved himself of his duties and begun living a quiet life in retirement. Dream's younger brother Destruction is the living embodiment of both destruction and creation. But centuries before Dream found himself imprisoned by the mortals of Earth, Destruction was the first Endless to stop in his work.

A Bullet Train theory suggests that everything Brad Pitt's Ladybug went through in the movie was a trap designed by Ryan Reynolds' Carver. In Bullet Train, Brad Pitt's professional assassin Ladybug encounters a deadly sequence of obstacles in his seemingly simple mission to retrieve a suitcase from the titular bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. From bumping into the revenge-seeking assassin Wolf to finding himself in the middle of The Prince's plan to kill her father, The White Death, Ladybug just can't catch a break.
But Ladybug's woes may not be a result of his pessimistic mindset, at least not fully. The unfortunate series of events that almost lead to his death begin with the reason why he took up the job: Ryan Reynolds' Carver, the original assassin who was supposed to onboard the bullet train, called in sick. With the White Death attempting to kill every assassin...

Spoilers for Thanos: Death Notes #1 by Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics has revealed Thanos' newest ultimate form, as the publisher just introduced a Mad Titan who rules all of time. In Thanos: Death Notes #1, Iron Man is told his existence is all a facade, as a future version of Thanos is said to be controlling and reshaping time itself. As such, everything that is happening and has happened in the Marvel Universe is said to be the creation of the omnipotent being.
Thanos is the ultimate villain in the Marvel Universe, as his quest to win the affection of the living embodiment of Death has led him to frequent conflicts with Earth's Mightiest Heroes and to use the Infinity Gauntlet to snap half of life from existence. Channing Tatum's mysterious character in Bullet Train could play a bigger role in the movie's story than he seems to. Directed by David Leitch, Bullet Train follows a retired assassin codenamed Ladybug (Brad Pitt), who is assigned to retrieve a briefcase from a Japanese bullet train bound for Kyoto Station. Bullet Train features an assortment of different characters crisscrossing into each other's respective missions, with the whole story being manipulated by the villainous crime boss known as the White Death (Michael Shannon).
In the cast of Bullet Train, Channing Tatum portrays an unnamed passenger aboard the train who provides some assistance to Ladybug as the main character tries to evade his pursuers. But then Tatum's character disappears from the movie completely without explanation. However, one fan theory suggests the character was never sincerely helping Ladybug at any point. While many heroes have felt the full impact of Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir, the Sentry once stopped the magical weapon using his incredible powers without ever being worthy. When the Avenger throws Mjolnir at his opponent, he's stunned to see Sentry stop it mid-air in one of the most stunning moments involving the God of Thunder's hammer.

The Mad Titan, Thanos, is Marvel's most recognizable villain thanks to his appearance in the most successful MCU movies and his enduring presence in the comics. However, not every Marvel fan knows that Thanos has actually changed quite a lot during the course of the decades, to the point that the Mad Titan of today shares very little with the one who appeared in the iconic Infinity Gauntlet saga.
Thanos is the brainchild of Jim Starlin, a legendary creator whose work was fundamental in building what is known today as Marvel's "cosmic" setting, meaning the big space-faring sagas that take place away from Earth. Starlin created Thanos in 1972 as a young artist working as a guest illustrator for Iron Man #55, his first actual job for Marvel. This early Thanos was clearly inspired by the DC characters Darkseid and Metron, however, he was also deeply influenced by Starlin's own beliefs and ideas.

DC Comics is filled with numerous heroes who don't always get the credit they deserve, much less their own video games - even if they could be amazing and fun or even philosophical and thought-provoking. The unique and creative abilities that many of these DC characters possess seem almost to guarantee game mechanics that would be entertaining along with preloaded storylines that would be engaging (and relatively unfamiliar to many).
There are over 10,000 characters in the DC Universe, with all types of imaginative capabilities and stories. The unique and downright weird powers of these heroes in a DC game would be a clever way to bring new mechanics to video games. Today's technology would allow for these abilities to be transformed into enjoyable interactive activities, possibly even to be experienced in VR. Here are a few underrated DC heroes who deserve their own video game adaptations.

It is official: Thanos collected the Infinity Stones in the wrong order. The Infinity Stones are some of the most powerful objects in the Marvel Universe, and the Mad Titan’s history with them is well-documented. Thanos fought tooth and nail with the Elders of the Universe for the Stones, but in 1995’s Rune/Silver Surfer, the energy vampire Rune shows a much more efficient way of obtaining them, one that offers zero resistance.
Thanos’ efforts to obtain the Infinity Stones have formed the basis for some of Marvel’s most epic stories. In 1990’s The Thanos Quest, Death revived the villain, who then set out to gain the six Infinity Stones in order to wipe out half the universe’s population. At the time, the Stones were in the possession of the Elders of the Universe, immensely powerful beings in their own right. Starting with the Soul Stone, Thanos...

Warning: Spoilers for Savage Avengers #7 ahead!Nothing emphasizes more just how much readers expect out of their supervillains these days than comparing Marvel's latest life-ending abomination to the vintage DC Comics foe known as Doctor Death. While the original Batman villain Doctor Death may have been a terrifying prospect to early comics readers, he can't hold a candle to the nightmarish foes that subsequent stories have dreamt up. Step aside, Doctor Death: there's a new D.E.A.T.H.D.O.K in town.
Debuting in 1939, Doctor Death was the first recurring villain to square off against Batman, and one of the earliest supervillains in comics. The recent passing of Robbie Coltrane was a reminder of just how beloved he was as the character Hagrid. Indeed, the amiable half-giant was one of the most beloved characters in the entire Harry Potter franchise, and even now, he remains one of the characters that fans look back on with fondness.
However, while there are still many things for fans to enjoy about Harry Potter, there are also still some things that are worth complaining about. Indeed, the users of Reddit, in particular, have identified a number of discrepancies between the books and their big-screen adaptations that continue to rankle, even after so many years.
Cutting From The Quidditch World Cup
For many readers, Quidditch has always been one of the best things about the Harry Potter novels. Thus, it is all the more remarkable that, after the first movie, it begins to take an increasing backseat to the events of the story.

A brand-new class, Death Knight, is coming to Hearthstone with the new expansion March of the Lich King, and its developer has revealed that the hardest part of crafting the class was its Hero Power. A new class has been added to Hearthstone only once before with Demon Hunter in 2020, making Death Knight's addition a historic event for fans of the card battler. The Death Knight class will bring a host of new mechanics to the game, including Runes that let players craft different deck archetypes and a new type of minion: Undead.

For the second time in its history, online card game Hearthstone will be adding a brand-new class to the game. The last time this happened was in early 2020, when Hearthstone introduced the Demon Hunter class. Although all the existing classes of the game are ever-evolving through new cards that introduce fresh strategies and archetypes, the introduction of the Death Knight class as part of the March of the Lich King expansion will be one of the biggest and most impactful additions ever made to the game.

Deadpool is one of Marvel's biggest and most well known characters. He first appeared in New Mutants in 1991, baring more than a striking resemblance to DC Comics villain Deathstroke. While both are guns for hire, Deadpool's crass humor and fourth wall breaking abilities quickly established him as his own character. Over the course of time his character was changed from that of a villain to an antihero.
The Merc with a Mouth has now become a household name thanks to the popularity of his books, his appearances in cartoons, and the popular Deadpool films. Surprisingly, Marvel and Star Wars actually agree on whether Thanos or Darth Vader is the most powerful being. Serving as major antagonists in their respective universes, the Mad Titan and Dark Lord of the Sith are both incredibly significant villains in pop culture. Both are equally compelling and dynamic characters as well. However, one writer has definitively confirmed which of the two is the most effective.

The 2022 Halloween season is here, and the best horror anime is just within reach across different streaming platforms. Halloween is the perfect time of year to get into something spooky. With the leaves changing and the air getting brisk, it's a perfect time to dive into the darker side of fiction and face your fears. Whether it's through a horror movie like this year's divisive Halloween Ends, sitting down with a classic Stephen King novel, or a video game marathon involving the Resident Evil franchise, there are many ways to get into the genre.
For fans of anime looking for something a little grimmer, there are just as many ways to get into the spirit of the season. Warning: Spoilers for Strange #7
Marvel's Doctor Strange is finally back from the dead with a massive change to his entire franchise lore - and a dour demeanor denoting a depressed doctor in Death's domain. Strange died quite recently in Marvel's Death of Doctor Strange event in Winter of 2022, but fans knew he wouldn't remain dead for long. The young Strange solves the case and resurrects present Strange, but dies in the process. Strange subsequently dies again (thus killing the character three times over), and...

Martin and Neil Gaiman agree that Hollywood is showing better signs of delivering faithful adaptations. Martin is best known for writing the epic fantasy series A Song of Fire and Ice, which currently comprises five novels and a sixth that is currently being written. The series was adapted into the Emmy Award-winning HBO series, Game of Thrones. Its prequel series House of the Dragon, inspired by Martin's Fire & Blood novel and co-developed by the author himself, premiered on August 21 and hit record viewership numbers for HBO, quickly earning a season 2 renewal order from the network.
Similarly, Gaiman also helped oversee the TV adaptation of his critically acclaimed The Sandman graphic novel series. The fantasy drama series was released on Netflix on August 5, with an additional episode released on August 19, telling the story of Morpheus/Dream,...
