Ifé Duckie is a filmmaker, writer, and producer, making her feature film debut with A Place in the Dark (2023), a poignant drama that explores the profound societal challenges of our time and their far-reaching consequences. The film takes audiences on an emotional journey through the lives of complex, deeply layered characters navigating a world shaped by passion and pain.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Ifé was raised by her father, a police constable; her mother, a typist; and her grandmother, a respected pharmacist. She began her education at Mona Primary School before earning admission to Ardenne High School through the Common Entrance exam. In the early 1980s, during third form (ninth grade), she moved to the United States to join her father and three brothers. While attending Proviso East High School, she discovered her passion for writing through an advanced placement course in Development of Western Thoughts.
After high school, Ifé enrolled at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, but left after her freshman year. She later pursued studies at community colleges in Chicago before earning an associate degree in General Studies from Malcolm X College. Initially on track to become a pharmacist, she completed the prerequisites for pharmacy school but ultimately shifted her focus to nursing. She studied at the University of Illinois School of Nursing before relocating to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Atlantic University's Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.
During her years at FAU's nursing school, Ifé rekindled her passion for writing- a creative force that never wavered. She later pursued a Master's in Health Law at Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law School, graduating summa cum laude. However, despite working in various organizations, she felt a creative void, leading her to establish Ifé Creative Works, Inc. with her husband of over two decades.
Founded as a platform to share compelling narratives with the world, Ifé Creative Works is committed to producing high-quality, thought-provoking, and innovative entertainment. The company's name, inspired by the Yoruba word "Ifé," meaning "love," reflects its guiding philosophy, infusing artistic value into storytelling with depth, imagination, and purpose. The company operates under the slogan: "At Ifé Creative Works, Inc., we think, create, and entertain with excellence in style and expression."
Beyond her work in film and writing, Ifé and her husband are proud parents, nurturing a blended family of four sons.
