Ahead of the wide release of Disney’s Snow White, the film’s first reviews from critics have been rolling in on Wednesday, and they’ve been decidedly mixed.
Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sees a princess, Snow White (Rachel Zegler), join forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).
For years, the film has been under fire for a combination of controversies, including Zegler’s casting and her opinionated remarks about the original animated film. The star also drew heat for her hostile reaction to Donald Trump’s re-election (she later apologized) and her pro-Palestine stance. People on social media have also attempted to paint a feuding narrative between Zegler and Gadot, the latter of which has spoken out against antisemitism and advocated for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

The debut score has been revealed for the new Snow White remake. Even ahead of its release, the film was rather polarizing, and that trend will continue with the divisive Rotten Tomatoes score.
Heading into its opening weekend, Snow White has garnered a debut score on Rotten Tomatoes of 48%. Initially, the early reactions from critics on social media were very promising, though with many other critics having more harsh opinions, the Rotten Tomatoes score is almost firmly right in the middle of the road. The number may continue to fluctuate as added reviews come in, but this is a clear indicator that the critics can't agree on how they feel about Snow White.
"Snow White offers a fresh spin on the classic tale that is elevated to the realm of a new original musical thanks to tracks by Pasek and Paul," reads one glowing review by Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet.

The first feature film produced with cel animation, Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remains a visual delight 88 years after its release. And though it’s almost entirely a slapstick comedy—the dwarfs’ madcap adventures in washing up for supper make up a surprisingly large chunk of the film’s 80 minutes—there’s a specificity in the vaudevillian energy that keeps the silliness from ever becoming cloying.
But as far as plot and characterization goes, it’s rather thin (the dwarfs’ names are descriptive adjectives after all). That, though, is intentional, as the story is merely a picnic blanket for the animators’ feast. And though there are similarly aesthetic joys to be found, along with some charming performances, in Marc Webb’s live-action remake, titled simply (and pointedly) Snow White, the original tale proves too skeletal to support the film’s weightier ambitions.

Disney's Snow White arrives in theaters this weekend, and updated box office estimates are in. We also have some more social media reactions following the latest press screenings.
According to Deadline, the Mouse House's latest live-action remake is on track to take in between a $45M-$50M in North America and another $55M abroad for a worldwide debut of around $100M.
This wouldn't usually be seen as a bad start, but a recent Forbes article claimed that Snow White's budget had ballooned to a whopping $269.4 million by the end of 2023 (current reports put it at $250M), which puts a lot of pressure on the movie to become a massive box office success. The movie won't have much in the way of competition for a while, but it'll need strong legs to get it where it needs to be.

As hard as it might be to imagine, few family movies in recent years have come to theaters with as much online baggage as Snow White. The Disney live-action remake starring Gal Gadot and West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler has been central to several controversies since Disney announced the project and its cast in 2021. Ahead is everything about the live-action Snow White and why it has become so fraught.
Racist backlash to Rachel Zegler
Disney was so bullish on Zegler that she landed the title role in Marc Webb’s film before the release of West Side Story. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,” Webb said in June 2021. “Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale.”
However, soon after Zegler’s casting was announced, the actress of Colombian and Polish descent...

The first social media reactions to Snow White are starting to come in following last night's world premiere in LA, and they are quite a bit more positive than you may have been expecting.
Though we are used to seeing a lot of gushing first reactions for pretty much every movie, Disney's latest live-action remake has come in for backlash from all corners for a number of reasons. The trailers didn't exactly do much to build anticipation, either, even among those who would usually look forward to Disney fare.
Disney held a scaled back premiere for the movie with no press invited to interview the stars on the red carped, and many believe the reason comes down to supposed "controversies" surrounding lead stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
Here's what actor Martin Klebba - who provides the voice of Grumpy - had to say about the premiere during an interview with THR.

The world premiere of Disney's live-action Snow White movie was held last night (we'll have the first reactions for you a little later on), but the event lacked the glitz and glam we're used to seeing when the Mouse House usually screens a new film for the first time.
Press were not invited to interview the stars on the red carpet in favor of "a more celebratory, family-friendly afternoon event to match the tone and target audience for the film."
The real reason is believed to be at least partially due to "controversies" surrounding leads Rachel Zegler, who has been an outspoken supporter of Palestine and critic of President Donald Trump, and Gal Gadot, who has come to the defence of her home country of Israel. There have also been reports that both actresses didn't really get along while shooting the movie (although this has been disputed).

Snow White, Disney’s live-action reimagining of the 1937 animated classic (itself based on the darker Brothers Grimm German fairytale), had its world premiere at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre today ahead of its March 21 release in theaters. Notable attendees included, of course, titular princess Rachel Zegler and evil queen Gal Gadot, as well as Disney CEO Bob Iger and producer Marc Platt; also at the fete were enthusiastic girls donning yellow and blue, greeted by starlet Zegler, and members of the Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando and Malibu affected by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
Other cast members walking the carpet were Martin Klebba, Lorena Andrea, Jason Kravits, Dujonna Gift and Indriss Kargbo. Broadway stars and cast members Tituss Burgess, Andrew Barth Feldman and Andrew Burnap were not in attendance.

Tickets for Snow White are now on sale, and Disney has released a new trailer, a teaser focusing on the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot), and a number of new posters for its latest live-action remake.
The trailer features quite a bit of new footage of Rachel Zegler's titular Princess arriving to the Enchanted Forest, where she encounters her seven diminutive companions for the first time.
The teaser, meanwhile, shows the Queen erupting in anger upon learning that her stepdaughter still lives and is "fairest of them all." We also get to see the villain's "old crone" form, as she tricks Snow White into accepting the gift of a poisoned apple.
“I am so excited for audiences and fans around the world to see this sneak peek and to revisit the magical world of Snow White,” said director Marc Webb in a recent statement. “Our goal has always been to honor the original animated film,...

Iconic American comedy show Saturday Night Live turns 50 this year, kicking off the celebrations is a four part documentary.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Saturday Night Live is responsible for launching the careers of a huge amount of American comedy talent, from the early days with Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Bill Murray, through eras with the much missed Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Molly Shannon, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and many, many more.
This month sees the release of Saturday Night in the UK, following its release in the US last year. It’s a new film from Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the script with Gil Keenan, and it dramatizes the chaotic, stressful ninety minutes leading up to the very first show in 1975. It stars Gabriel Labelle as Lorne Michaels, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase,...

Jennifer Lawrence Discussed ‘Mother!’ (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jennifer Lawrence is always honest; this time, she’s opening up about a surprising mishap on the Red Sparrow set. The actress got candid about working with director Francis Lawrence, especially during an intense scene where her character, Dominika Egorova, had to strip in front of her peers.
Speaking at a press conference for Red Sparrow, Jennifer shared that while filming the scene, she felt a strange sense of privacy, almost like being in a “nude house” where everyone was comfortable being exposed in front of each other. “I accidentally flashed the camera guys, and they were like, ‘Oh my god!’,” she admitted.
While awkward, the situation was made easier by the familiarity of working with a trusted team. Francis Lawrence, whom Jennifer called “almost a paternal figure,” and the camera crew, some of whom she’d known since she was younger, helped...

2024 was a packed year for several actors working in Hollywood, whether they are continuously rising stars or already well-established names in the industry. The year had plenty of noteworthy character-driven dramas, animated features, chaotic comedies, and big-budget blockbusters to keep audiences entertained. More importantly, these actors proved their capability of playing two different types of characters.
For example, multiple actors from the enthralling and visually stunning Dune: Part Two, like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Austin Butler, also appeared in acclaimed and award-worthy dramas in the same year. They are just a few of many actors who stole the show in 2024 with their commanding screen presence and shockingly good versatility. From newcomers like Cailee Spaeny to big-name stars like Chris Hemsworth, 2024 was a spectacular year for these particular performers.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series that shines a spotlight on the scripts for this year’s buzziest films is now pointing the viewfinder on Saturday Night, the Jason Reitman-directed film that tells the origin story of NBC’s venerable late-night franchise by focusing on the 90 minutes leading up to its TV debut.
The flick written by Reitman and Gil Kenan takes place on October 11, 1975, when an ambitious troupe of young comedians and writers would go on to change television forever. Formerly titled SNL 1975 (that’s the title on the script), the film tells the true story of what happened behind the scenes that night leading up to the first-ever broadcast of SNL.
The movie stars Gabriel Labelle as SNL honcho Lorne Michaels, Dylan O’Brien (as Dan Aykroyd), Cory Michael Smith (Chevy Chase), Rachel Sennott (Rosie Shuster), Lamorne Morris (Garrett Morris), Nicholas Braun (Jim Henson), Finn Wolfhard (NBC...

Many actors have found their own niche, but Lawrence has, over the years, jumped from action movies to rom-coms to superhero flicks and shown her efficiency.

Real cinephiles know that Letterboxd, where you can log movies you've watched and discuss them, is the best social media site, and one of the best things Letterboxd does is ask celebrities to list their four favorite movies. Before the release of her romantic comedy "No Hard Feelings," Letterboxd caught up with Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence to ask about her four favorite movies, and the entire concept seemed to deeply stress her out.
"Oh my god, that is so much pressure, because I'm really bad at remembering the titles," Lawrence exclaimed in the YouTube short before remembering the titles of three different movies. "I mean, 'Jurassic Park,'" she began, shouting out Steven Spielberg's beloved science fiction adventure flick, before naming Renée Zellweger's romantic comedy "Bridget Jones's Diary" next. Third on her list? Director Joe Wright's 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Pride & Prejudice" featuring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen,...

Its been a quiet year for Jennifer Lawrence who made headlines in 2023 thanks to her performance in No Hard Feelings, the raunchy comedy she starred in alongside Andrew Barth Feldman. Lawrence recently wrapped filming on arguably her most intriguing upcoming project, Die, My Love, which also stars Robert Pattinson and Lakeith Stanfield. Deadline has the first look at the upcoming film, showing a close-up still of Lawrence, the main character in the film who becomes entangled in a spicy love triangle where Pattinson plays her husband and Stanfield plays her lover. Nick Nolte and Sissy Spacek are also part of the Die, My Love cast, which is being billed as a horror thriller, with Sarah Lind, Victor Zinick Jr., Debs Howard, Marcus Della Rosa, Philip Forest Lewitski, and Saylor McPherson filling out the rest of the supporting ensemble. 2024 has been a year packed with great cinema from all different genres. Some of the years biggest hits have also been the most financially successful, like Dune: Part Two, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, unfortunately, many other great films have fallen by the popularity wayside.
Every year brings a number of films that dont live up to financial or critical expectations, but there are also a lot of films that simply dont spark huge love from audiences. These films are absolutely not failures; they are completely underrated and deserve a second look.
Watch the Chaotic Origin Story of Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live is one of the longest-running TV shows of all time, but its premiere episode was filled with production problems that should have doomed the series from the start. And this year, Jason Reitman tells the story of that tumultuous and chaotic night with Saturday Night.

Dylan O'Brien has two new movies connecting with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, as the actor returns to film in a big way after a brief two-year gap. Although he co-led the 2023 political satire Maximum Truth, the Teen Wolf alum has largely stepped away from major roles since 2022's The Outfit and Not Okay. O'Brien is back doing press tours for two very different films: the mystery thriller Caddo Lake and the comedy Saturday Night, in which he plays Dan Ackroyd and which focuses on the premiere episode of Saturday Night Live.
Both movies are gaining approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Saturday Night, directed by Jason Reitman, has a slight edge with an 87% audience score based on more than 250 ratings. Caddo Lake, which is written and directed by Celine Held and Logan George, with M. Night Shyamalan as one of the producers, is not too far behind with 82% based on more than 250 ratings.

Saturday Night is currently generating significant buzz with its theatrical release, and Dan Aykroyd, a major contributor to the NBC sketch comedy, has given his blessings to the movie by calling it a standalone masterpiece. The biographical comedy-drama captures the behind-the-scenes drama and creative process of airing the very first episode of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975, as Lorne Michaels and the rest of the cast and crew swam through the chaos of creating history.
On Friday, which was the 49th anniversary of Saturday Night Lives premiere, Aykroyd took to X to sing praise for the groundbreaking movie. He wrote:
Cracking a Head to applaud Jason Reitmans triumphant SNL film. Wow! What a propulsive, engaging, funny, beautifully cast and acted, suspenseful, adventurous, music-filled ride. A perfect window into the creative process at its highest level.

Despite being born and spending much of my life on the other side of the Atlantic, I’ve always been a fan of Saturday Night Live. The live format, which not only allows for constant improvisation but also for countless memorable moments of actors breaking character, is immensely appealing, as is the show’s structure – a collection of distinct sketches with musical performances. So naturally, a film based on the pilot episode, specifically the 90 minutes leading up to the broadcast, caught my attention.
Saturday Night is the title of the movie and was also the name of the original show due to a conflict with another late-night program, Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. After that show was canceled, SNL adopted the title it’s known by today, becoming a cultural phenomenon that, despite having its greatest impact in its home country, still crossed borders and reached audiences everywhere. "Saturday Night" is Jason Reitman's fast-paced, sizzling chronicle of the chaotic 90 minutes leading up to the premiere of the first episode of the late night sketch comedy series that would come to be known as "Saturday Night Live". As we know, the series would go on to become a staple of pop culture that changed comedy and television forever, and it's still going strong today in its 50th season.
But back in 1975, no one knew what this show would become, not even the young, confident showrunner Lorne Michaels (played by "The Fablemans" star Gabriel Labelle). “Saturday Night Live’s” 50th season got off to a good start this past weekend.
Though Jean Smart (“Hacks”) and Jelly Roll were the host and musical guest, respectively, the real stars of “SNL” Episode #1865 were the new character assignments ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Former “SNL” cast member (1986-1993) Dana Carvey is our absent-minded (and just generally absent) outgoing commander-in-chief Joe Biden, Maya Rudolph is of course back as Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Andy Samberg returned to Studio 8H as her husband — the second gentleman who could become the first gentleman come January — Doug Emhoff, standup comedian Jim Gaffigan as her running mate Tim Walz, Bowen Yang as the Republican VP candidate Jd Vance, and of course James Austin Johnson as former president Donald Trump.
The September 28 season premiere landed 5.3 million viewers, the most for a season premiere episode since 2020, when Chris Rock opened the season as host.

The September 28 season premiere landed 5.3 million viewers, the most for a season premiere episode since 2020, when Chris Rock opened the season as host.

Columbia Pictures’ Saturday Night from Jason Reitman debuted at $265k, a great $53k per theater that’s the second-best limited opening of the year, and the best since June when Kinds Of Kindness also opened in 5 theaters (to a $75k PTA). It’s been a long a slightly dower wait for something to pop.
Saturday Night made $108K on Friday, $88K on Saturday and a projected $69K on Sunday in LA and New York. Expands Oct. 4 before opening wide on Oct 11 and looks well set up for a nice theatrical run with strong reviews and word of mouth since premiering at Telluride and Toronto.

“SNL” will mark its actual 50th anniversary with a celebratory weekend culminating in a live primetime special on Sunday, February 16. We now know the first five hosts of the season.
After Smart, stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze makes a swift return after a great episode last season. Coldplay, regulars to the program, is his musical guest.
