RuPaul's Drag Race Live has been serving Las Vegas realness since 2020. Five years (and countless tucks) later, the concert residency celebrated its 1,000th performance on Sunday, and a chorus of queens from MTV's RuPaul's Drag Race commemorated the occasion by strutting their stuff on the pink carpet. The Queen of Drag herself, RuPaul Charles, also made a surprise appearance.

The immersive stage show takes place nightly at the Flamingo Showroom at the Flamingo Hotel. The cast is constantly changing to allow for new contestants, with the current lineup consisting of Jaida Essence Hall, Morphine Love Dion, Ginger Minj, Asia O'Hara, and Plane Jane.

All Stars season 9 has a non-elimination format where queens compete for charity instead of cash prizes. Season 9 introduced a new format to refresh the show, providing opportunities for queens to showcase their drag. The future of the non-elimination format in All Stars seasons is uncertain, but so far, it's been well-received.

RuPauls Drag Race All Stars season 9 is unlike any other season of the RuPauls Drag Race spin-off. After an uninspired eighth season, the franchise had to idealize incentives for previous drag contestants to return to the show. All Stars season 7 was the first time in the shows history that none of its cast went home throughout the competition. Instead, they competed for stars that could be won in challenges. The queens with the most stars at the end of the competition moved on to the finale and competed in lip sync battles for the crown.

There have been several seasons of RuPauls Drag Race All Stars, and some rank higher than others. The RuPauls Drag Race spin-off debuted its first season in 2012 and challenged queens to compete in pairs. Rpdr All Stars season 1 sported a phenomenal cast of previous competitors from the franchise. However, the format harmed the season and halted its production until season 2 returned in 2016. Thankfully for the series, Rpdr All Stars season 2 was a smash hit and is still known as one of the best seasons of Drag Race ever.

RuPaul Charles will crown its tenth winner of the spin-off with Rpdr All Stars season 9. In a shocking turn of events, the queens of season 9 are competing for charity.

Drag is a family affair with older, experienced queens mentoring younger ones in a drag family known as a "Haus". Drag daughters often adopt their mother's last name and exhibit similar characteristics and talents. Many mother/daughter duos have competed on RuPaul's Drag Race, showcasing the strong mentorship and community in the drag world.

Since its premiere in 2009, RuPaul’s Drag Race fans have watched over two hundred queens compete for the crown, but what viewers may not know is that drag is a family affair. Often, an older and more experienced queen will mentor an emerging drag artist, teaching them everything, from makeup and padding tips to how to get booked for a gig. Drag mothers can have multiple daughters who then go on to have daughters, creating a drag family, otherwise known as a “Haus.”

It was a hard decision for Lala Ri to send her friend Kahanna Montrese home last week, but that it came on the heels of her first ever challenge win on “Drag Race” helped pad the hurt.

Despite being eliminated from the competition later in the episode, Kahanna Montrese is grateful that RuPaul stopped her from quitting RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 8. After several consecutive appearances in the bottom two, the drag queen — drag daughter of Drag Race Season 5 alum Coco Montrese — felt the building pressure to be insurmountable and, in a moment of self-doubt, wanted to leave the show early in Episode 7. Heidi N Closet had done the same in Episode 5 following a fight with Kahanna. The spar was caused by confusion during “Snatch Game of Love,” in which Kahanna played drag mother Coco. When her performance went south, Heidi (embodying Blackbeard) started riffing with Kahanna. The comments felt like a punch down to the Season 11 alum, and she confronted Heidi in the Werk Room afterward. Feeling ganged up on by Kahanna and Kandy Muse and feeling a lack of support from the other competitors,...

Typically, drama on RuPaul's Drag Race doesn't last beyond filming. The episodes are shot about a year before their air dates. By the time the season goes live, the queens have had plenty of time to move past onscreen arguments. At first, this appeared to be the case with RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars Season 8 contestants Heidi N Closet and Kahanna Montrese, who got into an argument in the Werk Room over Heidi's intentions in Snatch Game of Love. Heidi claimed that she was giving Kahanna an opportunity to volley with her— a common practice in Snatch Game— while Kahanna said she felt Heidi was kicking her while she was down. The accusation, coupled with several other emotionally charged moments throughout the season, resulted in Heidi ultimately deciding to leave the competition.

In their calmer moments, Deja was able to explain to Bianca that like Peppermint last week, the game should not be based on track record and each queen should play for themselves.

Just two weeks after Heidi N. Closet dramatically quit RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8, another queen threatened to follow in her footsteps during an episode in which nearly half of the remaining contestants broke down in tears at one point or another. It was, in a word, dramatíque.

I have to admit that going into the opening episode of this season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race All-Stars I was quite surprised by the selection of queens asked to return to the werk-room. Don’t get me wrong every single one of the queens are extremely talented but some of these were not obvious choices or necessarily queens I would invite if I was in charge of casting. Alaska was confused why Naysha Lopez put on a prison jumpsuit, favoring more the queens that extended their known brand in their looks, like Kahanna Montrese and Heidi N Closet. Alaska’s personal favorite though was Jaymes Mansfield‘s and Bianca preferred Jimbo for being different and fun. Then, for the “Famous Then” and “Famous Now” runway mini challenge, Alaska and Bianca both liked Alexis Michelle‘s looks most.

The second episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8 presented the queens with a comedy challenge, but the lip sync that followed was no laughing matter.

In fact, very little about this episode was a laughing matter. Acting challenges in this franchise are extremely hit or miss, and this Saturday Night Live-inspired sketch comedy show was a miss for me. Sickening runways, a gag-worthy twist and Idina Menzel emoting for the gods? Frankly, we don’t deserve RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

Worthy or not, though, we’ve got a brand-new season on our hands! Friday’s premiere welcomed an eclectic group of familiar faces back to the Werk Room for a second shot at glory — or a third if you count Jimbo, the only queen to have already competed twice (on Canada’s Drag Race Season 1 and Drag Race: UK vs the World).

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio will return to host the “All Stars” Season 8 weekly recap series “The Pit Stop.”

Each week, Del Rio and her guest will recap and review the most recent episode of “All Stars” Season 8, which begins streaming on May 12 exclusively on Paramount+. New episodes of “The Pit Stop” will premiere Saturdays on the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” YouTube channel.

“Like a bad rash… I’m baaaack! The greatest thing about a new season of ‘All Stars’ is I don’t have to compete but get to judge all of them by hosting ‘The Pit Stop,'” Del Rio said in a statement to Variety.

RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars season 8 returns in May, and the celebrity guest judges have been announced, along with the 12 returning queens. The regular returning judges include RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews, and Ts Madison. Through the years, RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars has welcomed some of the biggest names in music, choreography, film, television, comedy, fashion, and business as guest judges.

According to Deadline, the guest judges for RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars season 8 will consist of a vast array of celebrities.

They include actress Maude Apatow, singer Brandon Boyd, actress and singer Zooey Deschanel, interior designer Thom Filicia, and actress Javicia Leslie. In addition, actress and singer Idina Menzel, actress Ego Nwodim, comedian Matt Rogers, film director Adam Shankman, dancer and singer JoJo Siwa, comedian Robin Thede, and comedian Bowen Yang will appear.
