One group of musicians that frequently sparks polarizing opinions is female rappers. Unfortunately, they often face intense scrutiny for their image and content, including their fashion choices, actions, and lyrical themes.

If a woman raps about sex in detail, the angry mobs run for their pitchforks and torches; however, if a male rapper releases a song just as explicit, no one bats an eye.

Naruto: What Was Kishimoto Thinking With the Freakiest Chapter Cover for a Story Meant for Kids?
Image
They don’t call Naruto a cult shonen series for nothing. It had A-grade fights, emotional moments, character growth, and development. To top it all, the manga is pure art in terms of its extreme detailing and intricate panels. This is one of the reasons it stands as one of the best sellers.

Aside from themes, the series chalks up the freakiness in many aspects. It is pure horror in the way Kishimoto conceived his characters. Several moments had to be censored, but this manga cover isn’t one of them. It is downright eccentric in more ways than one.

It is oddball, strange, and eccentric in every way, but most of all, it had fans go on a gag reel. The reactions are pure gold, however, they cannot dispute one thing for sure. That is, the series peaked in underlining the grotesque and macabre elements to make it a visual nightmare.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025 led by Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper… and surprise inductee Salt-n-Pepa — but no Mariah Carey
Image
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductees were announced Sunday during a live, Rock Hall-themed American Idol episode mentored by James Taylor, and while the Performer category includes six artists that Gold Derby predicted correctly, the overall class still features some surprises.

This year’s Performer inductees are arena-rockers Bad Company, dance-craze pioneer Chubby Checker, late British blues belter Joe Cocker, pop diva Cyndi Lauper, Southern rap pioneers Outkast, grunge heroes Soundgarden, and Detroit garage-rock duo the White Stripes. Bad Company, Checker, and Outkast are all first-time nominees; Lauper, the Stripes, and Soundgarden were all on the 2023 ballot, and Soundgarden were also previously nominated in 2020.

The nominated artists passed over this year were the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, and Phish. The snubs of previous nominees Carey, Joy Division/New Order, and Oasis are somewhat surprising, but the biggest shocker, or...

Charli Xcx Exchanges Playful Digs With Green Day During Coachella
Image
Green Day is officially brat.

As the punk band headlined Weekend 2 of Coachella, they exchanged some playful barbs with Charli Xcx, who also performed at the 2025 music festival in Indio, California.

After the British artist partied during Weekend 1 in a t-shirt printed with a sash reading “Miss Should Be Headliner,” drummer Tré Cool posed in his own sash made from toilet paper, which read, “Actual Headliner.”

“Obsessed,” wrote Charli on X with the photo of Cool, also sharing a snapshot of the band’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sporting a Brat hat in support of Charli’s sixth studio album.

In addition to Green Day, headliners for Coachella 2025 include Lady Gaga and Post Malone, also featuring performances by Charli, Missy Elliott, Megan Thee Stallion, Benson Boone, Zedd, Shaboozey, Ty Dolla Sign, Misfits, Prodigy, FKA Twigs and Jimmy Eat World.

Kneecap Sparks Backlash With Israel Protest During Coachella Set: “F— Israel, Free Palestine”
Image
Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap made quite the impression with their Coachella debut, using their set to protest the Israel-Hamas War‘s devastating impact on Palestine.

The group has sparked backlash after their Weekend 2 performance on Friday at the Sonora stage, during which they projected “fuck Israel,” “free Palestine” and other messages of protest against US support of the Israel-Hamas war.

“Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes,” the text read in photos shared on X by the group. “Fuck Israel. Free Palestine.”

After Coachella’s YouTube Live stream of their set was reportedly cut when they started an anti-Margaret Thatcher chant, the band wrote on X, “Not the only thing that was cut – our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either. Back next Friday Coachella and it’ll be sorted.

Lady Gaga Overcomes Mic Malfunction At Coachella: “At Least You Know I Sing Live”
Image
Although Coachella 2025 is nearly done, Lady Gaga brought her all to Weekend 2 of the music festival.

The 14x Grammy winner returned to the Coachella main stage on Friday, where her head mic began glitching during ‘Abracadabra’, her second track of the night, but she powered through the choreography and soon re-emerged with a working hand mic.

“I’m sorry my mic was broken for a second,” Gaga later told the crowd. “At least you know I sing live. I guess all we can do is our best and I’m certainly giving you my best tonight.”

Marking her first time performing at Coachella since headlining in 2017, when she replaced Beyoncé on the lineup, Gaga has brought her latest album Mayhem and some of her other greatest hits to the Inland Empire for the 2025 festival.

Last weekend, she performed her Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning song ‘Shallow’, which she originally sang...

Weekend two of the 2025 Coachella Music Festival has officially begun and all of your favorite artists will be back for another round of performances… and they will be paid really well for their work!

Stevie Nicks is reportedly working on a new album of material, which will mark her first full-length release of original material in 14 years.

Still unnamed, the new album’s existence was revealed by the Fleetwood Mac singer during a speech given in commemoration of her induction to the Pollstar Hall Of Fame on Wednesday night. “I’m actually making a record right now,” Nicks told the crowd, explaining that she calls it “the ghost record” on account of it coming together impromptu in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires.

Reggie Watts Slams Influencer-Driven Coachella: ‘The Soul Feels Increasingly Absent’

Reggie Watts is not a fan of Coachella’s current direction. The musician and comedian took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the Indio music festival, which will kick off its second weekend tomorrow.

Green Day Alters ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ Lyric In Support Of Palestine At Coachella
Image
After nearly 40 years, Green Day is still using their music as a megaphone to protest the world’s injustices.

While headlining Saturday at Coachella, the punk band used their 2004 single ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ to call attention to the suffering of Palestinian children amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

“Runnin’ away from pain, like the kids from Palestine / Tales from another broken home,” sang frontman Billie Joe Armstrong in the lyric that was originally, “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimized.”

Last month, he altered the same track, singing, “Am I retarded, or am I just J.D. Vance?” Instead of the vice president’s name, the original lyric asks “am I just overjoyed?”

The American Idiot artists are not new to making a statement with their music, using the title track from their 2004 album to call out Donald Trump during a 2023 New Year’s Eve broadcast.

“I’m not a part of the Maga agenda,...

Patrick Schwarzenegger Supports ‘The White Lotus’ Co-Star Lisa At Coachella: “Crushed It”
Image
Patrick Schwarzenegger has checked out of The White Lotus just in time to make it to Coachella.

Following last weekend’s Season 3 finale of the HBO series, the actor supported his co-star Lisa (aka Lalisa Manobal) on Friday during her opening night set at the music festival, sharing a video from the audience of himself singing and dancing along to her single ‘Money’.

“Excuse my dancing I had a cocktail,” wrote Schwarzenegger on his Instagram Story with the clip, adding that Blackpink star “crushed it.”

The pair didn’t have many scenes together during the recent Thailand-set season of Mike White’s acclaimed anthology series, with Schwarzenegger starring as privileged southern boy Saxon Ratliff, and Lisa playing resort employee Thidapon ‘Mook’ Sornsin.

Schwarzenegger appeared to be accompanied at the performance by their co-star Tayme Thapthimthong, who played Mook’s kindhearted security guard love interest Gaitok.

Headliners for Coachella 2025 include Lady Gaga,...

Lady Gaga Is Queen of the Desert, Benson Boone Channels Freddie Mercury, Lisa Slays at Coachella 2025
Image
When the inevitable oral history of Coachella is written at some point in the future, the first day of the 2025 edition of the mega-fest will likely be remembered for two things: first, the nearly-unbearable 100-plus degree heat that made the early part of the day a bear to slog through for even the most faithful fans of the desert gathering, and — more importantly — Lady Gaga’s superlative headlining set, definitively one of the most well constructed and over-the-top productions to ever grace the Indio polo field’s most-massive stage.

Gaga’s show (the artist’s first full-length set promoting her newest album, Mayhem) was set up in five acts with appropriately dramatic titles (“And She Fell Into A Gothic Dream,” “The Beautiful Nightmare that Knows Her Name,” etc.) and a semi-throughline story that seemed to be about Gaga killing her Mother Monster persona, only to have it rise again at the end.

Lady Gaga Recalls Filming ‘A Star Is Born’ At Coachella During ‘Shallow’ Performance

Ally fans rejoiced as Lady Gaga reprised her hit song from A Star Is Born (2018) for the first night of Coachella 2025.

Following some tracks from her latest album Mayhem, as well as some of her other bops, Gaga performed her Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning song ‘Shallow‘, which she originally sang with co-star Bradley Cooper for the acclaimed remake.

And we filmed a movie, a movie that changed my life, helped me say something I hadn’t said before.”

Gaga continued, “I’m so excited to sing this for you here tonight, I couldn’t wait. I hope you sing it as loud as you can. There ain’t nothing like you.

Missy Elliott Transformed From a Car Into Herself at Coachella — And Then Played All of Her Hits
Image
On Friday night, Missy Elliott delivered a mesmerizing set at Coachella 2025, literally gracing the stage as a car, transforming into herself, and then performing a rapid-fire set of hits like “Work It,” “Get Ur Freak On,” “Lose Control,” and more.

Starting the night by proving that she’s still an innovator through and through, Elliott entered the main stage during the intro of “Throw It Back” disguised as a car, eventually rising to reveal a futuristic, robotic outfit. From there, she brought energy to her performance, amping the crowd with commanding raps and slick choreography.

The set proceeded with “Cool Off” — which was interpolated with samples of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” — followed by renditions of “We Run This,” “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “She’s a Bitch,” “Pass That Dutch,” and more.

The first day of Coachella wasn’t for the faint-hearted this year: The heat soared to a solid 101 degrees in the desert, but that didn’t stop festival-goers – or the performers — from showing any less enthusiasm. Even as the sun beat down relentlessly, fans showed up at every stage in droves, getting riled up by earlier acts in the day, including Tyla, Ravyn Lenae, and Three 6 Mafia, and counting down for a slew of nighttime showstoppers like Benson Boone, Missy Elliott, Lisa, and of course, headliner Lady Gaga. Benson Boone Performs ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ With Queen’s Brian May In Coachella Tribute
Image
As Benson Boone kicked off Coachella 2025, he paid tribute to Queen with a little help from a founding member of the legendary group.

The Grammy nominee was joined by guitarist Brian May and a full choir on Friday night as he performed the band’s 1975 hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ on the Main Stage for the first night of Weekend 1.

Beginning the performance at the piano, Boone wore a fur coat of which Freddie Mercury would approve before getting up to work the stage and peeling off the layer to reveal his signature sparkly blue onesie.

May, who co-founded the British rock group in 1970 with Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, ascended from the stage to accompany Boone on guitar. The appearance follows May’s minor stroke last fall, which left him temporarily unable to use his left arm.

Boone’s Coachella debut comes after he revealed that his second studio album,...

Coachella has made it something of a tradition in recent years to add big-name artists in the days leading up to the festival. Recent examples have included Vampire Weekend in 2024, blink-182 in 2023, and Arcade Fire in 2022. However, following the last-minute departures of big-name artists including FKA twigs and Anitta from this year’s lineup, Coachella also found itself with some notable voids to fill. How Much Does Coachella Pay Headliners & Other Artists? See Who Earned the Most in History!

Coachella is just weeks away for the 2025 season and fans who shelled out lots of money for tickets may be wondering how much money the artists are earning for performing.

Lady Gaga, Green Day, and Post Malone are all headliners with acts like Missy Elliott, Charli Xcx, Megan Thee Stallion, Jennie, Anitta, and more on the lineup as well.

While the stars who headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show usually are not paid for their work, the artists who appear at Coachella make big bucks.

The headliners seem to make a Lot more than the rest of the artists on the lineup.

In recent years, Big Sean even noted how he performed to the same crowd size as headliner Harry Styles, “except he got paid way, way, way, way more than me.”

The Makings of Curtis Mayfield SXSW Review — Pop Star H.E.R.’s Impressive Tribute to a Legend
Image
For cinephiles, Curtis Mayfield created a legacy in marble and stone. The sheer power of Super Fly as a score cannot be ignored. It’s a seminal soundtrack, regardless of culture, and helps center The Makings of Curtis Mayfield as the documentary brings in dozens of musicians to speak on Mayfield’s prodigious talent. Directed by musical phenom and Oscar-winner H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson), we explore the musical brilliance of an icon. However, while watching musicians jam and talk shop about Mayfield’s influence is incredible, the number of talking head interviews causes the picture to lose focus.

The Makings of Curtis Mayfield – The Plot

As he rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of The Impressionists, Mayfield soon showed his ambition and talent far exceeded his place in the industry. Over the next decade, he would break out as one of music’s most exciting voices, and his...

‘On Becoming a Guinea Fowl’ Is Shocking, Surreal — and Absolutely Brilliant
Image
There’s nothing like starting a movie with a running gag, and Rungano Nyoni’s On Becoming a Guinea Fowl kicks off with a beauty. A young woman Shula (Susan Chardy) is driving home late at night. She notices something in the road. It’s a body. Not only that — Shula recognizes the corpse. He was a relative. She calls the authorities. Soon, her party-girl cousin Nsansa (Elizabeth Chisela) stumbles into the scene as well, and begins drunkenly dancing in front of the car’s headlights. But that’s not the funny part.

Pharrell Williams’ Michel Gondry-Directed Biopic Permanently Shelved
Image
A Pharrell Williams biopic helmed by director Michel Gondry has been permanently shelved by Universal, just three months before the film’s scheduled May 9 release.

According to Variety, the “coming-of-age musical” — originally titled Atlantis before the name was changed to Golden — had long finished filming and was in post-production when the creative team hit an insurmountable stumbling block while editing.

“When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn’t a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned,” Williams...

Pharrell Williams' Upcoming Movie Musical With Director Michel Gondry Scrapped After Filming, Reason Why Revealed
Image
Pharrell Williams and director Michel Gondry are shelving their upcoming movie musical Golden.

The 51-year-old music producer/fashion designer and the filmmaker worked together to bring the project to life, which featured Halle Bailey as one of the stars.

However, after filming wrapped in June 2024, and they were in post-production, they have decided not to move forward with the movie.

Keep reading to find out more…

The film was a coming-of-age musical set in the summer of 1977 Virginia Beach inspired by Atlantis Apartments, Pharrell‘s childhood neighborhood.

“When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn’t a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned,” Pharrell and Michel shared in a joint statement, via Variety. “We appreciate all the hard work of the talented cast and crew. Pharrell Williams movie directed by Michel Gondry has been scrapped in post-production
Image
Variety reports that a movie musical directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) about Pharrell Williams’s childhood has been scrapped in post-production and will not be released.

The film, titled Golden, was slated to be released by Universal Pictures and features a cast which includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak, and Jaboukie Young-White. While it’s rare for a studio to scrap a movie at this stage of development, this isn’t like Warner Bros. shelving Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme for tax purposes. Instead, the film, titled Golden, was shut down after “unanimous agreement from producers and Gondry that the film did not live up to its developed conceit.“

Michel Gondry & Pharrell Williams Scrap Universal Musical ‘Golden’ In Post
Image
Golden (fka Atlantis), Michel Gondry’s movie musical on the childhood of musician Pharrell Williams, has been scrapped in post-production, Deadline has confirmed.

Previously dated by Universal for a wide theatrical release on May 5, the film will never see the light of day, as it’s not being shopped.

In a statement shared with Deadline, Gondry and Williams attributed the decision to axe the project to their inability to fulfill the vision with which they had set out.

“When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn’t a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned,” they said. “We appreciate all the hard work of the talented cast and crew. While we’re disappointed we can’t deliver this film, we have incredible partners at Universal and will collaborate in a different capacity again soon.”
