Exclusive: Luke Thallon is in good company when it comes to playing Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Toby Stephens, Alex Jennings, David Tennant, and Paapa Essiedu are just a few of the actors who have taken on the melancholy royal for the RSC.
Ben Kingsley gave his Hamlet at Stratford-upon-Avon Upon Avon in 1975. When Richard Attenborough couldn’t decide who to cast to portray Mahatma Gandhi in his epic movie Gandhi, he remembered Kingsley’s interpretation of the Dane. The rest is Academy Award history.

Now it’s Thallon’s turn.
He’s unknown outside of the theatre world. But within it, he’s celebrated and adored, because he can, seemingly effortlessly, take on any role from a young grabby and grubby Roman Abramovich in Peter Morgan’s play Patriots,...

Jared Harris is going full circle and returning to the Royal Shakespeare Company for the first time in 34 years to play Claudius, the treacherous uncle in Hamlet. It is a play much-loved by his father Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies and Marcus Aurelius in Ridley Scott’s original 2000 Gladiator.
Harris said that when he and his brothers, thespian Jamie and director Damien, were kids, their stage-struck parents — dad Richard and mum Elizabeth Rees-Williams — would sit around the dinner table and discuss the productions they’d seen and “Dad would actually get up from the table and act them out for us boys.”
His father “adored” Hamlet and many of Shakespeare’s other plays. “I saw his version of [Laurence] Olivier’s death scene in Coriolanus quite a few times,” he chuckles from his hotel room in Iceland, where he’s shooting...

The season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power aired last Thursday. So there's no new episode this week, but we have the next best thing: nit-picking and ranking! Let's run through all eight episodes from The Rings of Power season 2, ranking them from worst to best, "worst" and "best" being relative terms:
Credit: Ross Ferguson / Prime Video. Copyright: Amazon MGM Studios. Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir; Maxim Baldry as Isildur; Nia Towle as Estrid. 8. Episode 204, "Eldest"
The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings story most of us know. Some characters are familiar and some are brand-new, and some of their stories are more entertaining than others. "Eldest" revolves mainly around some of the more boring characters in the cast, namely the elf Arondir, the Númenórean Isildur, and the human woman Estrid.

The following contains spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 5, now streaming on Prime Video.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 has improved over Season 1-- but it's still far from perfect. Season 2, Episode 5 covers a lot of territory from Nmenor, Khazad-dm and Eregion, while lightly touching on Elrond, Gil-galad and Galadriel. While many of the stories are well-balanced, Rings of Power is still struggling with how to make audiences care about its storylines when each one is fighting for screen time. Episode 5 highlights this struggle perfectly.
Episode 5 is anchored by the performances of Charles Edwards, Charlie Vickers and Peter Mullan. Celebrimbor and Annatar's relationship continues to grow more interesting, while Durin and Disa demonstrate great emotional depth. Elsewhere, Lloyd Owen as Elendil helps to elevate the Nmenor plot and create a much stronger example of the political intrigue of the world of men.

This week's episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is one of the busiest in Season 2. "Eldest" brings the live-action debut of many Middle-earth creatures, but one of the highlights is the return of the Ents. As Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova), Isildur (Maxim Baldry), and Estrid (Nia Towle) struggle to find common ground while searching for Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin), they are surprised by Snaggleroot (Jim Broadbent) and Winterbloom (Olivia Williams), the Ents who have been kidnapping humans. There is something curious about it, though: Winterbloom is an Entwife, a female Ent. It's the first time one of her kind appears in live-action - but why?...

There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of men for the treachery of spoilers. This article discusses events from the latest episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
We're only four episodes into season 2 of "The Rings of Power," but the Prime Video series is already living up to its potential as an expansion of J.R.R. Tolkien's lore. Familiar characters like Galadriel, Elrond, Isildur, and, oh yeah, that Dark Lord Sauron have all been given several new layers through this glimpse into such early stages of their lives -- "early" being a relative term when talking about individuals who tend to live thousands of years, of course. Concepts taken straight from the source material (like the recent reveal of orc babies) have challenged all our usual preconceptions about this franchise and the fantasy genre as a whole. But episode 4 takes this to even greater heights,...

The following contains spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 4, now streaming on Prime Video.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power continues to be visually stunning and offer characters with great emotional depth -- but it also still has a lot to juggle. Season 2, Episode 4 leans heavily into nostalgia for fans of Peter Jackson's Fellowship of the Ring and the Tolkien novel of the same name. As Elrond and Galadriel set off from Lindon to investigate Sauron's presence in Eregion, The Stranger, Nori and Poppy receive unexpected assistance. Finally, in the third episode, Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) and Sauron (Charlie Vickers), disguised as Annatar, started making the rings for the Dwarves. It’s called the “Rings of Power” after all, so they should probably get busy.

In episode 4, the story picks up at the very end of the third episode. Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) have assembled a team to accompany them on their way to Eregion. They believe that Sauron has already returned to influence Celebrimbor, and they’re right!

This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) Season 2 Episode 4 contains significant spoilers.
The fourth episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power begins with Elrond leading a mission to Celebrimbor. He, along with Galadriel and four other Elves, finds that a bridge has been destroyed, causing a fortnight’s delay in their travel. Nenya tells Galadriel that this is a trap set by Sauron.
Elrond decides to travel south, much to the chagrin of Galadriel, who questions him with a slight alveolar trill on the “R” in his name. The commander berates her, asking what Galadriel’s intentions are. She tells Elrond that her only intention is to avoid getting anyone killed, including him.
However, Elrond chooses expediency over safety. The friction between them is turning into a deeper fire—by that, I mean romance. At some point,...

Mild spoilers are ahead for The Rings of Power season 2, episodes 13.
By introducing a brand-new character, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 tells an Isildur story that J. R. R. Tolkien pretty much ignored in his books. Based on Tolkien's history of Middle-earth, as it reads in the Lord of the Rings' appendices, The Rings of Power season 2's story depicts major events surrounding the creation of the titular rings during the Second Age. Set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings movies, Prime Video's series centers on Rings of Power's ensemble cast of characters, including the Dark Lord Sauron (Charlie Vickers).
While Sauron gains power and schemes to forge the rings including his all-powerful One Ring The Rings of Power also navigates surrounding events, like the fall of the island kingdom of Nmenor and the last alliance between Elves and Men. The show...

Rotten Tomato scores may not say everything, but they can certainly tell you a lot. For better or worse (mostly worse), the entertainment rating site (which is all Roger Ebert's fault) is seen as a status symbol for success and failure in modern cinema. You can use it to see which Christopher Nolan films are the best of the bunch or use it as proof that E.T. is still Spielberg's best movie 40 years after its release. You can also use Rotten Tomatoes to compare an ongoing series from one season to the next. Case in point: Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Season 1 of that serialized Middle-earth blockbuster rolled out to decidedly mixed feelings from both the diehard and fair-weather elements of Tolkien fandom. Those opposed were so intense in their reactions that Amazon delayed reviews on its own streaming platform to combat trolls.

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is almost here, which means we're about to catch up with the long line of characters we met back in 2022. One of them is Isildur (Maxim Baldry), a young man from the island nation of Númenor who finds himself stranded in Middle-earth. Númenor is a pretty fancy place, a kingdom of men granted long life by the divine Valar. How will Isildur fare now that he has to fend for himself in the much more humble confines of Middle-earth?
Well, based on trailers for the new season, we know he'll be fighting giant spiders at some point, something a lot of Lord of the Rings characters from Bilbo to Frodo tend to do. "That was the only day that I was shooting in studio, but it was with a with a rugby ball," Baldry told reporters at San Diego Comic-Con.

Final “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power” Season 2 Trailer Out Now
Evil reveals itself. Ahead of its premiere, Prime Video has released the final trailer for Season 2 of “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power.” The big-budget high fantasy series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy during the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Per the official Season 2 logline, after being cast out by Galadriel without army or ally, Sauron has returned, and the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power. The second season will reportedly build to the Siege of Eregion, a deadly and definitive battle in Tolkien’s history of the Second Age of Middle-earth that marked the beginning of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

House of the Dragon is one of the biggest and best shows on TV right now! The second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff just came to an end in August 2024. Now, we have a long wait for House of the Dragon season 3.
Thanks to the success of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, there’s been an incredible investment of resources into the fantasy genre!
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many good fantasy shows on TV right now, but there are a few. Throw in a few historical dramas and some outside-the-box picks, and you’ll have quite the list of shows to watch while waiting for House of the Dragon season 3!
For obvious reasons, we did not include Game of Thrones on this list. You should definitely watch Game of Thrones if you haven’t already, especially if you’re watching House of the Dragon.

Today, the final trailer for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted. It reveals Middle-earth in the throes of discord sown by Sauron and the deception and manipulation that led to the crafting of more of the titular Rings of Power.
Unlikely alliances are forged amidst fire, and true friendships are tested. Dangers no longer lurk in shadow but slither their way into the light. Weighty decisions rest on the shoulders of the realms of Eregion, Khazad-dûm, Lindon, Númenor, and the lands in between, as the safety and peace of these kingdoms hang in the balance.
This season features the long-awaited Siege of Eregion, a definitive battle in J.R.R. Tolkien’s history of the Second Age of Middle-earth, from which not everyone makes it out alive. The banners are raised, and the devastating war against Sauron is just beginning.

The Rings of Power season 2 introduces Estrid, possibly Isildur's wife, setting up major canon storylines. Canon details show Isildur had a son before Nmenor's fall, impacting the show's timeline and relationships. The show may compress events to fit timeline, but longevity of characters provides a loophole for aging concerns.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will introduce an original character with huge implications for canon. This character was confirmed as Estrid, played by Nia Towle, in an IGN exclusive. Season 1 welcomed key Second Age character Isildur, and season 2 will place him close to Estrid, forming a possibly seismic relationship. New set photos released in the exclusive show Isildur and Estrid looking intimate, lending weight to the idea that Estrid may well turn out to be the wife of Isildur in The Rings of Power season 2, a character thus far unnamed and unexplored in Tolkiens lore.

New images for The Rings of Power season 2 offer the first look at Estrid in the Lord of the Rings show. In J.R.R. Tolkien's lore, Estrid would go on to become Isildur's wife, though wouldn't be the mother to the iconic heroic character of Aragorn. With the show set thousands of years before Tolkien's mainline Lord of the Rings trilogy, there is a lot it can explore in the relationship between Isildur and Estrid before leading to Aragorn's birth mother.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is introducing a new character with potentially significant ties to J.R.R. Tolkien's lore. Other new characters have already been confirmed to be in season 2 of the Prime Video series, including Rory Kinnear as Tom Bombadil, a fan-favorite character in Tolkien's writing.

The climactic end of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 left audiences stunned. The Southlands have been decimated, and from their ruins, Mordor rises ominously. Both Southlanders and Numenoreans experienced significant losses in the brutal conflict, culminating in the jaw-dropping revelation that Charlie Vickers Halbrand is none other than Saurona twist that, admittedly, many fans saw coming. With the darkness set to spread in Season 2, the stage is set for new alliances and fresh faces. One of the most exciting new additions to the cast is Estrid, portrayed by Nia Towle, known for her role in Netflixs Persuasion and her stage work in Neil Gaimans Ocean at the End of the Lane.

Whether you asked for it or not, Prime Video’s epic fantasy series based on The Lord of the Rings appendices by legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien is back with its much-anticipated second season. Created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power had a pretty turbulent first season even with its massive budget of $1 billion but still it was one of the most watched shows on Prime Video, so maybe this season the creators of the series will change hearts and minds of frustrated fans.
In Season 2, Sauron has officially returned and after being cast out by Galadriel and without any allies he must rebuild his power through his cunning to oversee the creation of the Rings of Power. His ultimate plan with the rings is to bend the people of Middle-earth to his will. While the Dark Lord is rising our heroes are also getting ready for his eventual attack.

History stands as a testament that reboots, spin-offs, or adaptations fail the moment makers decide to give their own twist to the mythos. From The Witcher to Eragon, there have been several series and movies that ended up being ridiculed and sneered by fans and critics. And Amazon’s Rings of Power too can be found among such projects.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Based on the famous J. R. R. Tolkien books, the series provided its own spin on the tale by being set thousands of years before the events in the books. Needless to say, the series was not as well received. And even Lord of the Rings star, the late Bernard Hill had some deeply insulting words to say about the series.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has cast an ex-Game of Thrones star, months after another big GoT name dropped out.
