- He had a French Bulldog, "Nadine" that went everywhere with him.
- He is the guitar player in the country rock band, Austin Hanks.
- He has three siblings. Brothers Ivan Valdez a hunting and fishing guide, Thomas Valdez a club promoter in Hollywood, and sister Alicia who passed away in 2004.
- Won the 2010 Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actor in a movie ("La Mission"), beating out Martin Sheen and Jimmy Smits for the honor.
- In the Spring of 2008 he became engaged to Kelly Conery. She is a personal and wardrobe stylist in Hollywood.
