Mahalia Latortue-Pridgett was born and partially raised in West Hempstead, NY. Growing up, her parents would frequently send her back to their hometown in Thomassin, Haiti. She received her Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism at a small HBCU called Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. She then attended the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, GA graduating as the Excelsus Laureate in 2020 where she earned an MFA in Film and Television. Throughout her career, Mahalia has produced over ten short films and a podcast called "The Struggle Is REEL". She has been featured as a rising filmmaker in Oz Magazine, Medium.com, Voyage ATL, and MovieMaker Magazine for her 2020 short film Chocolate Thunder. For three years, Mahalia worked as a Producer's Assistant in Atlanta on a variety of films and TV shows such as Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, Slumber Party, and Heels: Season Two. Mahalia was a finalist for the 2025 Disney Entertainment Television Writing Program and is currently in the 2025 Mentorship Matters Writers Initiative Program.
