Tim Allen has been a successful actor for decades, primarily making his name in comedy and children's entertainment. He's known for his time on the sitcoms Home Improvement and Last Man Standing and voicing Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise. And, of course, we can't forget when he took on the role of St. Nick himself in the Santa Clause movies. He even played an excellent villain.
By all accounts, a kid's superhero flick would fit nicely into Allen's repertoire. He may not be the first name that comes to mind when picturing a crime-fighting, world-saving, tights-wearing hero, but the concept for his 2006 movie Zoom: Academy for Superheroes had all the right ingredients to be a success — a leader with a dark past, a team of kids with superpowers to train, and an enemy to conquer.
Zoom was directed by Peter Hewitt, fresh off his 2004 live-action Garfield movie, which was similarly panned.

’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the land
Mommy and Santa, were getting on grand.
This threw little Harry, into such a tizzy
He grew up demented; delusional, dizzy.
He spied on the children, through windows he peered
To check if they’re nice, or if they be jeered.
He kept a big book, with names he did fill
Those who did or did not, follow St. Nick’s will.
His job at the toy plant, was covered in scorn
Co-workers would trick him, to work until morn.
He tried to be nice, and swallow his hate
But when they pushed Harry, ’twas too little, too late.
In full Santa gear, he took to the road
With presents for children, he had a full load.
His nondescript van, could give some folks pause...

The one major complaint from Hallmark lovers about the launch of Hallmark+ was that they couldn’t watch new movies on the streamer.
It appears that Hallmark fans are getting their wish. The feel-good entertainment company had been attempting to thread a particularly difficult needle with the rebranding of its subscription video-on-demand streaming service Hallmark+. In an effort to not upset their linear distribution partners, when Hallmark refreshed and relaunched its streamer, its library was highlighted by a handful of exciting original movies and series, built on the foundation of years of films that originally aired on the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery. However, what was noticeably lacking and increasingly frustrating to fans was that those channels’ new films were not available to stream on the service. Now, it appears that will change in the new year.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen isn't just special because it's also a team-up with Reacher star Alan Ritchson, as there's another reason it will feel like a long wait before its release. The upcoming movie's announcement was already exciting, but there's a specific aspect of the project that's equal parts unexpected and brilliant, which is exactly how an Arnie movie comeback should be. Schwarzenegger has still been acting in recent years, but mainly in TV shows rather than feature-length productions.
Perhaps most prominently, Schwarzenegger has been leading the Fubar cast - the second season of which is expected to be released in 2025. His most recent movie casting was a return to the Terminator franchise in 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate. Ritchson has served almost as Schwarzenegger's spiritual successor in recent years. Not only has he been leading the Reacher cast since 2021, but he has also appeared in several other movies and TV shows.

In 1974—the year Richard Nixon resigned in the wake of Watergate, and just one year after the United States withdrew from the Vietnam War, having wasted 19 years, five months, four weeks, one day, and nearly 60,000 American lives—confidence in and trust of the United States government was in a shambles.

Santa's elves have become as integral to Christmas as the big man is. Much like St. Nick, the elves seem to have entered into the Yuletide mythos from a variety of places, including Norse Mythology, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, and mid-19th century literature. It was the introduction of electronic media, however, that further popularized elves, indelibly linking them to Santa Claus and Christmastime.
Over the decades, there have been dozens of movies and TV specials starring or featuring Santa Claus. Nearly all of them have included Santa's helpers, magical beings with a knack for toy making and abundant Christmas spirit. Typically, elves are little more than supporting characters. Yet sometimes, some of these enchanted helpers step into the spotlight. Over the years, some elves in popular movies have become about as iconic as Santa himself.

The image of Santa Claus has been curated over the years to become wholesome and a symbol of happiness. In the past, he had been seen as a representation of Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas. In the 80s, he seemed to take a darker turn as horror filmmakers decided to use his visage to corrupt the viewer’s expectations. This sweet and gentle man would now be a killer. Multiple films decided to use this idea, and a whole sub-genre of horror Christmas movies was born. Which ones are the best killer Santa movies?
Violent Night (2022)
Most killer Santa Clauses are villains, but this newer movie had the jolly man fighting for the side of good. This little twist makes the film even more fun. A wealthy family is held hostage, and it turns out their only hope is the fat man himself. David Harbour plays the legendary figure who...

These x-mas horror movies prove the holiday season isn’t all snowflakes and carols.
If the success of “Terrifier 3” taught us anything, it’s that Christmas-themed horror movies can really work. Like, work to the extent of almost $90 million in worldwide gross on a $2 million budget! Talk about making a “killing” at the box office. In that movie, Art the Clown returns with some festive cheer to terrorize Sienna Shaw once more, this time with the help of a resurrected Victoria Heyes over the holidays. Now, in that Christmas / horror crossover spirit, let’s have some fun and countdown the top seven holiday horror movies you can stream right now. None of them are as dark as the Terrifier movies (in part because my stomach can’t take much more), but I promise they’re just as fun!

Christmas season is in full swing on The Young and the Restless. Soon, jolly old St. Nick will visit Genoa City to deliver gifts to everyone who was good. This year, Santa had a tough job making his naughty or nice list. Some characters were well-behaved, while others delved into mischief. Here’s a look at who’ll receive a nice gift and who’ll get a lump of coal from Santa this year.
Reason For The Naughty List
Santa’s naughty list consists of some top Genoa City names. Victor (Eric Braeden) earned a spot on the list after manipulating and double-crossing Lily (Christel Khalil) to take over Chancellor Industries. Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) normally disagrees with her husband’s decisions but supported this plan when he made her Chancellor’s new CEO.

Earlier this year, I reviewed Horrified: World of Monsters, the latest entry in the co-op board game series that brings creatures of myth and fiction to the tabletop. The biggest change that World of Monsters introduced was the ability to mix and match monsters with a previous entry, Greek Monsters, along with the promise of compatibility with any future Horrified release. Your challenges throughout the game are defined by the monsters, so this allowed the series to be able to provide a wider range of challenges going forward.
This winter, Ravensburger has released a limited time, single monster mini-expansion that’s perfectly themed with the holidays: Krampus.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game, you work together with other players to move around the board to pick up items and save villagers while trying to complete objectives related to each of the two to four monsters that you’re competing against.

This year is all about Richard Curtis’ career firsts. The rom-com titan has now made his music-video directorial debut ahead of the premiere of his first animated film, “That Christmas.”
Curtis directs Ed Sheeran and “Bridgerton” actress Claudia Jessie in the “Under The Tree” video. The original song is featured in “That Christmas.”
The video stars Sheeran, who previously acted in rom-com “Yesterday,” as a lovelorn soul missing an ex, played by Jessie. Sheeran and Curtis have been trying to collaborate for years, with Sheeran saying in a press statement that he got an early cut of “That Christmas” to make “Under The Tree.”
“Richard Curtis made my fav Christmas film, and TV special. He came round my house in 2021 and showed me a rough of his new one, then asked me to make a song for it. How could I resist,” Sheeran said. “Having kids, I struggle to find...

Melancholy Christmas songs are the best Christmas songs and Ed Sheeran sure seems to know it. His new holiday ballad, “Under the Tree,” longs for the one thing that St. Nick can’t bring him: the lover he has lost.
Sheeran wrote “Under the Tree” with Johnny McDaid for the upcoming animated film That Christmas, premiering on Netflix next month. The video for the song, released today, intersperses live-action Sheeran and his costar Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton) with animation from the movie. The pair play a couple no longer together, despite...

Red One decks the box-office halls by achieving its first major milestone since its release earlier this month. However, the Dwayne Johnson-led Christmas movie may not receive many more gifts during its theatrical run as it faces stiff competition from new and upcoming blockbusters.
Via Collider, Red One is expected to cross the $100 million mark at the global box office on Nov. 22, with $55 million coming from overseas territories. The news is encouraging considering Red One endured tough sledding with an underwhelming opening weekend in North American cinemas, making $32.1 million over its first three days. The film's early tally also helped Johnson cross the $14 billion mark for his career as he searches for his first major commercial hit since Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019.

Though 2024 is almost over, there are still several exciting Christmas movies to be released before the new year begins. Christmas movies provide the ultimate comfort during the holiday season. Some beloved Christmas classics are guaranteed to be viewed every year, and there's a great chance one of this year's new releases makes its way into the rotation. These films feature both classic and unexpected characters, like the joyful Santa Claus himself and an eccentric Satan.
The latter appears in the comedy film Dear Santa, which is just one of the many ways 2024 Christmas movies put a spin on the holiday genre. The anticipated animated and live-action films span a variety of genres, including thriller, comedy, and romance. Halloween is over, so that means it’s time for the Christmas season — and Dwayne Johnson is here to usher in the yuletide early with “Red One.”
His Christmas action movie with Chris Evans has made $3.7 million at the box office so far in Thursday previews. The Amazon MGM film is on track to make between $30 million and $35 million, with some projections lower at $25 million and others as high as $40 million. With a massive budget of $250 million, plus marketing costs, it’ll take a Christmas miracle for “Red One” to become a profitable hit at the box office. However, Amazon MGM is also focused on driving people to its Amazon Prime Video streaming service (where “Red One” will later land), so box office grosses aren’t as high on the deep-pocketed company’s wish list.

Christmas has come early to the Frasier-verse. The reboot’s second season finale was a holiday-themed episode, one which found Dr. Crane and company attempting to reunite Frasier’s old friend Alan with his estranged daughter. Naturally, hijinks ensued.
The episode was mostly serviceable, although, as Frasier fans have pointed out, it’s a little weird that the show seems to be teeing up a romance between Frasier’s son Freddy and Alice, the character played by Kelsey Grammer’s real-life daughter Greer Grammer.
Also, we couldn’t help but notice that the episode’s title seemingly references one of Grammer’s career low points — and keep in mind that this is a career that includes both Down Periscope and Money Plane.
The season finale is named “Father Christmas,” which makes sense, considering that it’s about a troubled dad during the holidays. But it also, perhaps not accidentally, calls...

If there was a Guinness World Record for the most jacked-up Santa in a big-budget, Hollywood-financed, holiday-themed action-comedy, Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) would win hands down and biceps curled for his committed portrayal of Father Christmas in Jake Kasdan's otherwise disposable, forgettable Red One. Simmons' Crossfit-loving, hyper-trophied Santa not only unironically loves those fading odes to crass commercialism, American shopping malls but also works out obsessively in his private gym back at the North Pole, relying on his personal security guard and nominal head of Elf (Enforcement Logistics and Fortification), Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson), to spot him when he goes big on bench-pressing free weights....

Take those jack o’lanterns to the dumpster, it’s Christmas time, at least according to the multiplex. One such flick is already getting moviegoers in the “spirit” with the modestly budgeted The Best Christmas Pageant Ever packing them in after only a week. Well, it’s time for the big studios to load up your stocking with lots of action and firepower. Hey, we get plenty of holiday comedies and romances, so how about a butt-kickin” Kringle? That’s the formula for this, an expansion of the movie within a movie “The Day the Reindeer Died” from the opening of 1988’s Scrooged, along with lotsa’ laughs in between explosions and a heartful message snuck in. Hopefully, it comes together like a warm fruitcake (and probably tastier) in Red One.
Unlike many holiday tales (especially variants of “A Christmas Carol”), this one begins with a flashback as little Jack O’Malley...

It’s never a harbinger of good tidings when the critics’ embargo for your $250-million Christmas franchise launcher is 9 p.m. Pt on Election Day. But here we are.
Amazon MGM Studios’ bid at a Marvel-level action-comedy spectacle, the ho-ho-horrible “Red One” is a blockbuster-sized cinematic lump of coal, driven as if by narcotized reindeer on a sleigh of hideous CGI and charmless stars with only dancing dollar-shaped sugar plums on the mind. Leave it to rom-com staple Richard Curtis to transform Logan Roy into Santa Claus.
Curtis is turning to the world of animation with Netflix film “That Christmas,” which stars “Succession” alum Brian Cox as St. Nick. “Love Actually” and “About Time” writer/director Curtis adapted the script from his own bestselling children’s book series; Curtis and Peter Souter share screenplay credit. Veteran character animator and story artist Simon Otto (“How to Train Your Dragon”) makes his directorial debut with the film.
“That Christmas” follows a series of entwined tales about love and loneliness, family and friends, and Santa Claus making one big mistake, according to the official synopsis. Oh, and there is also “an enormous number of turkeys!”

All right, Virginia … Whereas so many Yuletide toons hinge on whether kids believe in Santa Claus, Netflix charmer “That Christmas” makes the case that it’s more important for kids to believe in themselves.
Adapted from a trio of picture books by “Love Actually” scribe Richard Curtis, the feel-good family film is chock-full of kids second-guessing their worth — and not just in the naughty-or-nice department either. A handful of key characters doubt whether they’re deserving of love, on account of absentee parents or pushback from authority figures. Leave it to Curtis (and co-writer Peter Souter) to deliver some affirmational proof that each of them matters — with an assist from old St. Nick, who pops in to deliver some strategically timed presents while most of the grown-ups are Awol.

The upcoming Christmas action comedy, Red One, promises a rocky ride for Santa Claus and several shenanigans involving Dwayne Johnson's main character. According to director Jake Kasdan, the Amazon MGM Studios pic isn't your typical movie for the holiday season, insisting the pic is more "kick-ass" than most.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kasdan expressed his belief that Red One stands out more than other Christmas movies because he and his creative team made it an "epic" film and "a little more kick-ass" than previous entries. Kasdan, who shared his "love" for Christmas movies, thinks Red One contains many elements that make it edgy, yet wholesome.

Hallmark has released its 2024 Countdown To Christmas schedule. Between the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Christmas, and Hallmark+, they are releasing 47 new holiday movies. Therefore, did the network make a When Calls The Heart movie for 2024?

On Thursday, Hallmark announced its 2024 Christmas movie schedule. However, this will be the fifth Christmas in a row without a When Calls The Heart Christmas Special. The last time Hearties were treated to a Hope Valley Christmas movie was on Christmas Day, 2019. That movie was called Home For Christmas. Why isn’t there a Wcth holiday movie?
Just four years ago the world was dealing with the pandemic. After a shutdown, Hollywood slowly began to work again.

Is there an issue more contentious in Hollywood than facial hair? Frankly, yes. But it's still fun to talk about. Throughout the history of the industry, stars' choice of facial adornment have caused no end of issues for studio executives. Such was the case with Gregory Peck and 1950's "The Gunfighter," in which he donned a majestic mustache that then-20th Century Fox head Darryl F. Zanuck claimed he would have paid $25K to shave. Sadly, however, Zanuck was out of the country when the film shot, and only discovered the offending stache upon his return. According to the exec, it was this precise element that was to blame for the film failing to meet box office expectations.
This is but one facial hair-related debacle in the annals of Hollywood lore. What about when some sort of facial fuzz is actually required for a role? Well, in the '90s,...

Sailor Moon is a classic magical girl shojo and there's plenty of content for fans to revisit and enjoy. Newcomers to the Sailor Moon story may be intimidated about figuring out where to start. Viewers who grew up with the series may have forgotten how great some of the original anime movies are.
It's helpful to have a concise guide reviewing each epoch of Sailor Moon storytelling, highlighting all the best parts of each rendition and story arc. Sailor Moon Crystal is a currently-running retelling of the manga, and there are newer movies that fans who stopped at the episodic series may want to check out. Each part of the franchise is beautiful and has compelling story beats. Hopefully, the Sailor Moon franchise will only continue releasing content, like prequels about the Moon Kingdom backstory, and an anime adaptation of the companion manga series, Codename: Sailor V.

Canada, the home of winter, looks to have no shortage of snowy inns set against fairytale-like landscapes with piles and piles of the white, fluffy stuff.
That’s because Hallmark, long a major producer of Christmas TV movies, shoots a lot of holiday flicks in Canada, even if the plotlines are set south of the border. So do a lot of other U.S. producers for whom British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario offer real snow, iconic mountains and other varied wintry locations to keep American producers in furry parkas coming north with their cameras and Hollywood stars.
In fact, there’s more to budget-friendly production tricks than fake snow on these TV movie shoots, as humble Canada stands in small-town America strung with colorful lights. Shooting north of the border allows producers to tap generous tax breaks and currency savings, seasoned local actors and crews and ample studios and costume...

Between Thanksgiving and It’s a Wonderful Knife, it’s been an especially rewarding year for seasonal slasher fans, an esteemed group that Santa Isn’t Real does not join. Writer and director Zac Locke’s low-budget Christmas massacre barely has a pulse until the final few minutes, only thanks to a few teaspoons of gore. Performances are stiff, characters have no spatial awareness with a killer on the loose, and technical elements can get pretty ugly, all dooming this snoozy Christmas Horror dud to the naughty list.
The film opens with the eggnog-sipping Nikki (Kaya Coleman) cozying up by the fire after setting red frosted cookies and milk by a decorated tree per Christmas traditions. Tracy Morgan will be hopping his way into The Santa Clauses with his special guest role in the upcoming second season. Serving as a follow-up to the Santa Clause movies, the series brings back Tim Allen as the titular gift-giver, and joining him in season 2 for a special appearance will be Morgan. Deadline reports that Morgan is set to play the Easter Bunny, though no details were revealed on how the character will be worked into the show's plot. The casting serves as a reunion between Morgan and series creator Jack Burditt, who worked as a writer on 30 Rock.
It was previously announced that Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet was coming into the cast for the second season as another special character. He'll be playing Magnus Antas, aka the Mad Santa, a character who "reigned during the 14th century and is now returning to try and take down Scott Calvin...

When most people think of Mickey Rooney and classic Christmas movies, the first things that likely come to mind are his iconic portrayals of jolly old St. Nick. Starting with the iconic Rankin/Bass stop-motion gem Santa Claus Is Coming to Town in 1969 and running all the way to 2008 with A Miser Brothers' Christmas, he was the voice of Santa for many throughout the years. According to writers Glenn Ficara and John Requa, however, Rooney was being considered for a much raunchier holiday-themed role - as Billy Bob Thornton's elf assistant Marcus in the black comedy Bad Santa. During an interview with Collider's own Steve Weintraub for Rabbit Hole, Ficara and Requa told the story of Rooney's audition and their inspiration behind Marcus.

Plot: It’s Christmas Eve, and Tori and Robbie just want to party and get drunk. Unfortunately, a robotic Santa with evil intentions may ruin their plans.
Review: Recently, I went to the World Premiere screening of Christmas Bloody Christmas at this year’s Beyond Fest. Intending to review this flick, I decided to go in completely blind. Indeed, the title gives a little warning, but the lively introduction of writer/director Joe Begos grabbed my attention. Whatever this holiday offering had, it was going to be rambunctious. And now, I’m happy to say that the wild and wooly, fast-paced fright fest is perhaps one of the best St. Nick inspired horror features in recent years. Bloody, with practical effects, and many F-bombs to offend those who don’t like cursing. And I cannot wait to talk about the rockstar performances of Sam Delich and especially Riley Dandy.
