Audiences don't love classic shojo just because of the nostalgia factor. While that definitely plays into why some more notorious or madcap titles become cult classics, like Vampire Knight, there are many other shojo classics that still hold up to today. Newer anime audiences and viewers who only watched shonen anime could start these titles and enjoy everything they have to offer.
Classic shojo titles tell diverse stories, from enchanted, intergalactic magical girl journeys to contemporary coming-of-age stories about love and artistry. Some titles, like The Rose of Versailles, set the genre standards for historical anime. Others pushed at the boundaries of gender convention, and still have progressive storytelling merit today.

Yakuza Fiance couldn't thrive without Yoshino's character carrying the action and plot on her shoulders. She's a strong, independent woman who is willing to work for the things she wants, even if it puts her in danger. She's an admirable character in the world of shojo who brings to mind fellow heroines, who stand bravely in the face of danger and shame.

Vampires are very popular anime characters. The characters may or may not sleep in coffins, but they generally walk by the light of the moon, and hunger for blood. Some have more bestial traits, like bat's wings and intricate fangs, while others are more of the aristocratic demon variety.
There's a certain romantic aura to vampires that makes them captivate the audience as love interests. A vampire may not be the most practical husbando, but anything goes in animeland. Some husbandos already have love interests, and the ones that do tend to have dramatic stories full of melancholy moral conflict and tragic yearning.

Shojo manga and anime are marketed towards a young girl audience. Shojo stories tend to revolve around personal growth, friendship dynamics, and falling in love. Though shojo anime tends to have a certain set of tropes and themes, the stories are still quite varied.
Likewise, slice-of-life anime spans across many subgenres and demographics; it explores the daily lives of interesting characters who are often entering a new world or phase of life. Shojo combined with slice-of-life makes for a great story. Series like Ouran High School Host Club explore the school life and romances of elite students, and stories like My Happy Marriage tell the incremental story of a woman who enters an arranged marriage, slowly recovers from trauma, and falls in love for the first time.

The best enemies-to-lovers anime excel at portraying one of the most beloved tropes among audiences. Not all couples begin with love at first sight any of them feel nothing but anger toward their future partner at first, until becoming closer makes them both realize that theyre more than what they appear.
Enemies-to-lovers stories, more than anything, adore love that's based on intense and passionate feelings and, eventually, fully cemented by deep trust and understanding. In some cases, the couples overcome years of bad blood to be with one another. Sometimes, no one knows you more intimately than your closest enemy.

Two things are certain. The My Hero Academia manga and anime successfully adapted the superhero formula from Western comics and created a truly brilliant Japanese superhero work. In the West, The Boys comic book and series successfully inverted the superhero genre and created a brilliant series that showed us the dark side of superheroism. Now, it seems that we have also gotten an anime answer to The Boys, as the Go! Go! Loser Ranger! anime is slowly becoming a hit of the Spring 2024 anime season.

As much as anime fans enjoy watching historical war anime series, there aren't many decent ones apart from a scant few, including Dororo, Vinland Saga, and Drifters. While many of these anime shows bring historical figures to life by using the events that transpired during Feudal Japan, others, like Kingdom, give us an outlook of how the Warring States period in China influenced the history of the world.
