Netflix has launched the full trailer for the 6-episode limited series ‘Griselda,’ in which Sofía Vergara makes her dramatic debut playing the role of Griselda Blanco.

The series is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman Griselda Blanco, a devoted mother who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as “the Godmother.”

Vergara is also Co-Creator and Executive Producer alongside Eric Newman (Narcos) and Director, Andrés Baiz.

Griselda is Netflix’s latest narco-drama, starring Sofía Vergara in the titular role. The streaming giant has just released the first trailer for the series. This inaugural look at Vergara’s portrayal of Griselda Blanco shows the Godmother of Miami’s rise through the ranks of the cartel, all the way to the top.

Netflix released the trailer on their official YouTube channel, with the description reading “Queenpin. Innovator. Mother. Killer. Griselda is a woman of substance. From the minds that brought you Narcos comes Griselda.” The limited drama series is being executive produced by Eric Newman, who was involved in Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. It follows the titular Griselda Blanco, who ran the Miami drug scene in the 1980s.

Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) stars as Griselda Blanco, known as The Godmother of the underworld, in Netflix’s Griselda. The new trailer reveals Griselda’s not just a savvy businesswoman and mother, she’s also a killer who basically owns Miami.

“From the earliest days of my research for what became Narcos, [Griselda] leapt out at me as a fascinating character,” said series creator Eric Newman in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “I have always endeavored to humanize complicated people, many of whom have been considered evil, and Griselda offered both the greatest challenge and opportunity.”

The six-part series will debut on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.

In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco's lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as "the Godmother."

This looks set to be a massive departure for Sofia Vergara, who was a lead on Modern Family before moving on to judge on America's Got Talent.

The 51-year-old Modern Family actress stars as Colombian drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco in the upcoming limited series Griselda, which will be available for streaming in early 2024.

Here’s the official logline: Griselda is “inspired by the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman, Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.”

The reality star, 39, and his fiancée, Tia Blanco, 26, have welcomed their first child together, Jenner confirmed in an Instagram announcement on Thursday with footage of Blanco’s home water birth.

“We welcomed our baby girl, Honey Raye Jenner, to the world on July 29th ,” he confirmed. “Momma and baby are in perfect health. We are so incredibly in love and have been cherishing this precious time together as a family. We want to thank everyone for all the love and support.”

It’s a busy April this year. One less Friday than last month, but the exact same number of posters to sift through. Yes, having films release the Wednesday before Easter helps add to the total, but only two titles are taking advantage: Air (April 5) and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (April 5). And with only one other wide release following them a couple days later, the numbers even out anyway.

It goes to show just how much real estate Disney demands whenever they have a new debut. Everyone else must wait for a month without one to push and shove their way onto screens while they can. Supply and demand—even if the struggle these days seems to be more about the theaters deciding which to show than audiences deciding which to see.
