Deadpool & Wolverine actress Dafne Keen has signed up to star in 'raunchy' movie The Marshmallow Experiment. Keen will be co-starring with Johnny Knoxville in the coming-of-age comedy.

Deadline reports Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me and Goosebumps: The Vanishing) will lead The Marshmallow Experiment as a sexually-frustrated teenager who unplugs from the internet after a disastrous sexual encounter with his dream girl. The teen is then guided on a journey of self-discovery by a talking gorilla, all while avoiding his influencer parents and rogue AI avatars.

McCarthy and Keen will be joined in The Marshmallow Experiment by Knoxville, Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Steve Buscemi (Wednesday) and Josh Lucas (Yellowstone and The Forever Purge). Pablo's Richard Goldgewicht will direct alongside Matt Hamilton and Abe Frank, with Virgin River star Jayce Barreiro and Graem Luis (Night Comes) on board as producers.

Exclusive: Production is underway in Vancouver, Canada, on The Marshmallow Experiment, a “raunchy coming-of-age comedy” from Canadian production and finance company Big Picture Cinema Group.

The film stars Dafne Keen (Deadpool & Wolverine), Sam McCarthy (Dead To Me), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), Josh Lucas (Ford Vs Ferrari) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) in the story of “a young internet addicted teen (McCarthy) who, after bombing in bed with his dream girl, embarks on a wild, cringe-filled journey of digital detox…with influencer parents, rogue AI avatars, and a talking gorilla as his guide, The Marshmallow Experiment tackles intimacy, identity, and growing up unplugged—in the most online way possible.”

The US-Canadian co-production is written and directed by Richard Goldgewicht (Pablo), Matt Hamilton and Abe Frank. Pic is produced by Big Picture Cinema Group’s Jayce Barreiro and Graem Luis (Night Comes). Also producing are Richard Goldgewicht and Ruth Bornhauser of Core Story.

Earlier this year, it was announced that actor Jay Hernandez, whose credits include Magnum P.I., Hostel, and Suicide Squad, would be making his feature directorial debut with with the survival horror thriller Night Comes, working from a screenplay he wrote with Jason Bourque and Nancy Isaak. The film stars Dafne Keen and Samantha Lorraine – and now an image from the Night Comes production has been unveiled, giving us our first look at the characters played by Keen and Lorraine. UTA has signed Canada-based production and financing company Big Picture Cinema Group for broad representation encompassing financing, packaging, sales and distribution and advisory services.

UTA Independent Film Group, which specializes in global film finance, worldwide sales and distribution, the festival marketplace as well as advising clients and financiers on scripted and unscripted content, will be the primary partner to Big Picture inside the agency.

Big Picture is a team of producers and financiers with proven track records in film and television. The leadership team includes Jayce Barreiro, Jared Zhang, Jacky Lai and Graem Luis.

Exclusive: Ken Jeong (Crazy Rich Asians) and Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale) have signed on to star alongside Zhang Jingchu, Michelle Krusiec and more in Impossible Dream Entertainment’s comedy Tiger Mom, which has entered production in Vancouver.

Zhang leads the U.S. & China co-produced film as Marilyn Khu, a first-generation Chinese-American mother who, unable to control her teenage children, enrolls them in a prestigious disciplinary school called Tiger Academy — run by the no-nonsense Suki Lai (Krusiec) —which is capable of whipping them into Ivy League shape. While Jeong will play Jimmy Khu, a work obsessed husband and father whose parenting style is decidedly out of touch, details as to Munro’s role haven’t been disclosed. Additional cast members set include Alexa Loo (Chad), William Budijanto (Resident Alien), Chloe Pun (Kung Fu), Neil Garguilo (Bloodsucking Bastards) and Nathalie Boltt (District 9).
