My Lady Jane will not return for a second season. Prime Video has cancelled the historical fiction series after eight episodes. The entire first season was released by the streamer on June 27th.

The series is a radical retelling of English royal history. In this version, King Henry VIII's son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal husband Guildford. At the center of the series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane (Emily Bader), who is shocked to be crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head).

Prime Video has cancelled the comedic fantasy drama, which reimagined the life of short-lived Queen of England Lady Jane Grey, TVLine has confirmed. The show’s first and only season debuted on the streamer June 27 and was well-received, but failed to rank on Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly streaming charts.

“My Lady Jane” has been canceled at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has confirmed.

The historical fantasy drama series aired one eight-episode season at the streamer, which dropped in its entirety on June 27.

The cast of the series included: Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Anna Chancellor, Dominic Cooper, Kate O’Flynn, Rob Brydon, Abbie Hern, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Henry Ashton, Máiréad Tyers, Michael Workeye, Joe Klocek, Brandon Grace, and Will Keen.

The show was inspired by the book of the same name written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

Amazon Prime Video has come up with its own fancier version of Bridgerton. The only difference would be that My Lady Jane uses real-life characters from history. The makers, however, have taken an alternate historical approach, which would mean there are some liberties taken in the context of some major characters, and their life stories may have been altered to suit the narrative. Set in England after the death of the promiscuous King Henry VIII, his last surviving children are still in court, and one of them wants the throne to themselves.
